So he just added “ipad mini” to all stuff we already knew about.
Even if there is not an iPad Mini, he’ll still be 90% right.
For the time being, he gets headlines and headturns.
Good game.

Apple’s 2018 strategy for iPads was “everybody gets a pencil”.
Not sure how that would fit with a new iPad with reduced drawing area.

iPad mini

Kuo says that Apple will launch a new version of the iPad mini, which has not seen an update in several years. Kuo says the device will feature an upgraded processor and a lower-cost panel.

Kuo does not know, however, if Apple will announce it during the media event or launch it sometime later in the year/early next year, but if an updated model is in the works, it makes sense for it to launch alongside the iPad Pro.

There's me thinking that the next generation iPad mini will have a downgraded processor. Thank you Kuo for clarifying this.

Great for replacing notebooks like the standard Moleskine or similar.
With Pencil support it would make it the ideal notebook, doodling machine and book.
Also great for on-the-go media consumption and as has already been said, bigger than the biggest iPhone.

The Mac mini is not really mini anymore. It was mini a decade ago, when every other computer was a full tower. Mini is now Intel NUC size, or half the size of the Mac mini is each axis. Unless they're putting a real GPU in it, it needs to be cut in size and weight. The reason it's so large in the first place is because they had to fit a CD drive and a rotating hard drive in it, both of which are dead now. There's no point making it that large if it comes with no GPU.

A miniature schnauzer is also not really mini. Neither is Minnie Mouse.

Wait, were we talking about iPads?

My iPad Mini 4 still seems to be going strong but it would be really nice to have a nicer version of it out there to upgrade to if/when I need to.

Companies buy a lot of the Mini. The specs hardly mattered - it was mostly about the form factor. At some point Apple was going to have to update the components to something more current to simplify their supply chain and costs. It may not change much, but it will certainly have more pep and could return to having a lower cost for less storage - not the 128GB Mini 4 we've had to deal with for years now...

The guy is a chancer. Throw enough **** at a wall and see what sticks. If something doesn't happen, there is no recourse, there is no accountability. If something happens, he's got inside knowledge.

Eh, his entire career is his accountability. He is not here to supply Macrumors with things to talk about........

What’s the point of the iPad mini now that iPhones reach the 6.5” territory?

You can buy four new iPad Minis for the cost of an iPhone XS Max. The mini is great for kids who have small hands and penchant for destroying expensive electronics. Mini's are also the best Apple device for reading, as they can comfortably be held with one hand.

It is nice to know Apple is not ousting it’s smallest tablet. However I now will wait for a resigned mini without the home button. Also given that Apple might not be redesigning their iMac, this year will be another miss for me.

I have said all along that this next event will be quite extensive, new and upgraded tech in abundance. Why? Apple knows its loosing customers with its outdated line. If for no other reason than to simply get sales going up to the holiday season everything that has not recently been updated will see some change even if only a polish up. Apart from the Mac Pro.

My only interest right now is the mac mini, I want one that will equal or exceed my 2018 13" MBP so I can stop using it in clamshell all the time.

I may be interested in getting a Mac Mini but I'm guessing the price won't be mini at all.

If I were ignoring the innards being 4+ years old and BTO the current Mac Mini to my preferences (as much so as currently possible at least) it'd cost ~$1400.

If I can BTO a new Mac Mini after Oct 30 with current innards (6-core and 32GB ram) for anywhere close $1400 ... I'll be content?

If I could order a new Mac Mini on Oct 30 w/ current innards for $999, and upgrade (gasp!) the ram and ssd at a later date, I'd dance on-top of my desk...

It's all about managing expectations.

Oh, it would be so nice if there are no new "low budget" Apple devices. Just the same tech in different sizes. Three iPads, three iPhones – Mini, Normal, Plus. Problem solved.

Older device = low budget. Current device = best tech available.

It's a desktop. It doesn't need to be smaller. Give me my discrete gpu and decent cooling please.

You can turn Face ID off and just got for passcodes. Even without a passcode if needed. So no issue.

This is true. Not all carriers allow for all security to be disabled however. Just seems like a waste to have a ID System that will never be enabled. It would still be a very welcome upgrade. Lot's of old Mini's out there with a lot of lag with todays NAV Applications.
