There's no harm in having more ports on a Pro/power user laptop and the Touch Bar. The majority don't like it.
I'm not a creative professional, so I am likely seeing things from a different lens. If you came to me back in 2016 and said could you get by with a laptop that has only 2 USB C ports, I would have laughed you all the way out the door.

But 2020 shows my habits have certainly changed. Aside from the power brick, the only other thing I sometimes plug in is my external drive for backups. For a professional photographer though, it might be a different story and having that SD card reader just adds a world of convenience and for those who still have tonnes of USB A devices they still use, it makes sense.

Apple certainly is washing away a lot of Jony's decisions it seems.

Oh, may be they could walk back on Magic Keyboard too? Back to good old Scissors with 1.3mm Key Travel.

All in all that is basically building a modern 2015 MacBook Pro.

The amount of repair that has to do with Thunderbolt 3 / USB-C Charging frying the system are simply way higher than Mag-Safe. Either something much better needs to be designed and done or moving back to ( at least providing an option to ) charge with a dedicated port is a much better solution.

Sigh...... The Touch Bar was a really good concept but the ultimate execution and utilization is awful......

I mean come on, who in the hell will scroll the timeline in Final Cut Pro with the Touch Bar in the first place? It should've been much more useful features such as volume adjustments for individual selected clips instead in the very first place.

But then hey, this also reflects that those who designed the implementation of the features DOESN'T REALLY USES THE SOFTWARE

Sorry for the banter but, seriously, the Touch Bar is just one great feature that was wasted.
I feel the same way about Force/3D Touch on Apple Watch and iPhones. I'm personally not a fan of the touch bar, but give me my Force/3D Touch back!

This is like a macrumors forum wish list.

Personally, not thrilled by MagSafe, unless you can still charge by usb-c. I have 90’ish watt USB-C chargers everywhere I need them, and it’s nice to be able to plug in any of the family’s macs, ipads, etc. when necessary.
Hard to imagine that they will have a separate MagSafe port and they pretty much have to have USB-C charging. I like MagSafe. Would they have a piece left on the USB cable, but that would get lost. Can they make a spring loaded connector on the Mac for USB-C?

Whatever it is I'm buying one. I've never used TouchBar so won't miss it. Hard to believe they are abandoning it though. But I have no idea how many people use it. Developers who support it won't be happy.

I’m not a laptop guy, but MAN this sounds awesome lmao. I’m very excited to see these. Sounds like some great product unification coming.

It never really made sense. If it was tactile, it might have worked. But having to look down at your keyboard to find where controls are is bad.

Ditching of the Touch Bar makes a lot of sense if Apple intends to go the Optimus Maximus route like described in that patent from earlier. Fix the drawbacks, let users opt out. I’d just be afraid of burn in issues and the fact that the keyboard “backlight” would always have to be on unless you were a full touch typist and could go with blank keys.

Still cant visualise it in my head. The MBP is already very boxy in its current form.

I think there's room for improvement.

Am I the only one wondering if MagSafe on the new laptops uses the same “puck” as iPhone but attaches magneticly over the Apple logo on the back of the screen?
If anything it will be at the bottom left side of the screen lid. Not on the apple logo
