The iPhone 8 and the X/XS are essentially the same physical size with a much bigger screen...
That was my fault...I had it in my brain he was talking about the XS max.

eXpenSive and the eXpensive lesseR models.
OLED TVs don’t use PWM. PWM is implemented in portable devices to increase battery time.Unless the OLED can be achieved otherwise, I don’t see this coming. Apple cannot defy physics.
I’m all over that 6.7. My current XSMax has been a disappointment (WiFi, LTE, stuttering). If the 2019s weren’t using Intel modems again, I’d do an early upgrade for the first time. But I’ll have to wait.
Yeah it's a shame, but to be honest the only factor I'm interested in is the width of the phone (short thumbs)
I hope people don't mind me reposting an image I created before during the original Digitimes report. This was assuming a 4mm bezel, which I really hope / expect that Apple will be able to improve upon in the 2020 devices.
Anything slimmer than the iPhone 8 is something I'm onboard with!

Not bad but the bezels and more importantly the notch are not the correct size. Once that’s corrected, I think you’ll see that the ears are basically unusable. And I’ll share mine:

I never used a 4.7” model much. I had the x for a year(came from a 7+) and felt super small. I have small hands and could use the x easily with one hand. Ultimately went back for the xsmax as I missed the width and felt the x was too small. I can still use the xs max one handed a lot of the time.
It’ll be close at least. The 8 is 148g, if the bezels didn’t change and they maintained the .30” thickness, I calculate the 5.4” at 153g. The XS is 177g, the Max 208.So 5.4 inch will be lighter than 8? I feel my X is slightly too heavy and too large so 5.4 will be perfect for me! There were rumors of thinner bezel which would further help with size and weight.
Ugh, but my 6 is dieing this year... seems like next year is the year I should be holding out for (I've been holding out a while but my 6 is finally starting to give up the ghost combined with it not being supported). I really don't want to wait but if I buy this year's model and they come out with this stuff next year I'll be annoyed, and if I wait for the chance this rumor is right and it's not I'll be annoyed. I guess I'd be less annoyed though if I bought this year and next year this is the new phone than if I waited and I still didn't get a smaller iphone with a full screen.

Definitely feeling some schadenfreude toward those complaining about the 2020 XS potentially going smaller to 5.4" after seeing people constantly say "boo hoo people don't like small phones anymore" or "just get the SE." It's still bigger than I'd like, 5" would be just about perfect, but I'll take it. If people want a monstrosity of a phone, get the 2020 XS Max. This news definitely solidifies my plan of holding onto my 8 for a third year.
I said “every two years” because all the “s” years are obviously the same. And I said “change or addition”, so I think you’re forgetting that the X came out along with the 8. But you are right about the 7, I forgot to include that one year delay. I should also add that the 4 was only a resolution change, so the first five generations of iPhones did stay the same. It was only after the 4s that Apple/the market seemed unable to settle on a size or set of sizes.6, 6s, 7, 8 all had the same design and screen size.
The cult-like appeal for the SE is perplexing and it’s an obsession that seems to be largely unique to MR forum members. Very odd.
Apple produces items based on profit, not popularity.
It's much more profitable to sell a bigger more expensive phone.

I dont understand why they would go back from 5.8" to 5.4". I love the size of the X/XS!
This is what I’m not happy about - It’s forcing too many toward a model they’d rather not have...Potentially a bit of a pain for me as I was wanting to drop down from an 8+ to a 5.8" once TouchID returned, I've mainly preferred the plus models for the better battery life, and the X/XS have closed the gap on plus phones quite significantly over the previous 4.7" iPhones. A 5.4" might be just a smidgen too small though (5.8" gives you a roughly 5" 16:9 area, which is a great sweet spot). 6.1" might be the next best bet, but would probably mean missing out on triple camera goodies, and the current XR isn't actually that much smaller than a plus iPhone. And of course the kicker would be if the 2020 6.1" still doesn't get TouchID back for budget reasons![]()
Exactly how I feel. I got used to the x quickly but I wanted the width back. The xs Max is basically the perfect phone and I feel like I could go bigger is size if it’s minimal overall size update. A 6.7 sounds like it would be about as big as people would want for a phone.I had the 6 for 2 weeks because the 6+ was sold out. Once I had my 6+, I never went back down in size until the X came out. I used that for 18 months and upgraded to the XS Max in March. I won’t be upgrading this year and hope the 6.7 is true for 2020. I hate using any phone smaller than the XS Max, and still have my X but use it to play music in the car and at work.

It's becoming clear 2019 is a meh update; internals upgrade, and XR will replace a color. This is such a nonsense post. Not only that we are still 3 months away from the new iPhone that is definitely locked but the iPhone in 2020 is not locked in any way. Probably the final design etc. will be locked around feb-march so all these "predictions" are pointless as it could change many times.
Also, we all know that 5G is given next year and we all know that the XR phone will not have all the things so this is just a guessing if anything else.
They do. I don’t think it was the case for iPhone 7 iirc, but at least by iPhone 8 the 5.5” Plus model was outselling the regular 4.7” model.Fair enough, if that's what you believe.
Ironically. I see more people with plus-sized smartphones than the regular sized one. Never mind miniature 4.7" sized ones that I hardly see them anywhere. Plus-sized ones are more expensive but it appears people prefer large displays.
I'll need to buy a small backpack if I buy the 6.7 inch iPhone.
