This better not be true.

I don’t want to be forced to reduce a perfectly sized 5.8” screen to 5.4” because the 6.7” is way too big & the 6.1” is gimped sans 5G.

This is the worst rumour to come out in a while & I’m hoping it’s way off regarding the killing off of the 5.8” model...

Well, that would satisfy a lot of people in 2020.

5.4 inch
6.1 inch
6.7 inch

What about the many who love a 5.8” iPhone...& have done so since Apple said the X was the way of the future.

This is awful news for a lot of people.

Sacrificing the most popular sized iPhone for a minority who want the SE back...

They need to add an SE to the range, not get rid of the 5.8”...ffs.

Can Apple please make a small iPhone that is less than 100 grams??? It’s only when you hold an iPhone 4, 4s, 5, 5s, SE, and then hold an iPhone X, XS, that you realize how ridiculously heavy new iPhones really are. Heavy weight iPhones affects the enjoyment of using the device. By the way, no more frickin camera bumps! There are millions of people that don’t like iPhone anymore because the finesse of the Apple products has gone out the door, in terms of low weight, compact size, and non bulging cameras. Where are the perfectionists at Apple? They seem to be on a seriously extended break. Come back to work please all the Apple perfectionists.

If we hold the device closer, it will appear bigger.

But the more interesting question is:
How will the camera bump on the rear will look like in 2020 and beyond?

Every year is getting bigger and bigger :) Wondering how the bump for the 2022 iPhone will look like....

Eventually the whole back of the phone will be a camera bump, and the phone will just be thicker with room for the camera's.

I think I may wait until 2021 to upgrade since 5G will be more widespread by then. It doesn’t look like there is anything significant for next year but there is still plenty of time left and anything can change.

If these rumors are true, that means the 11S (or whatever it’s called) will presumably have a three camera system in a 5.4 inch body. I want that phone so bad. My XS is too big and I’ll take any decrease in size I can get.
I feel like the 6.7" will be too large. The current 6.5" already verges on too large for even suit jacket pockets!

Happy with my X, Apple won’t see a dime from me until maybe 2021 and 2022 and thats a maybe.

But Apple will have a ripe upgrade market in 2021. Look at what everybody is holding in this picture - mostly Touch ID iPhones.

I struggle to understand why this phone is so desirable in this community. I don't think anyone cares about it outside these forum boards. If that thing was popular, Apple would had to make sure it is produced.
The cult-like appeal for the SE is perplexing and it’s an obsession that seems to be largely unique to MR forum members. Very odd.

I’m praying one day it is flat again.

What I really don’ t understand is that the 6.1 inch will be the “ cheaper” model.
I liked the 5.8 inch x/xs, and could adjust to a high end 6.1. But the 5.4 seems more high end than the 6.1 in this rumor, and even more expensive??? Or will they be the same price? I would love apple to release 3 high end models with oled, 5g and the same camera’ s.
5.4 inch $749
6.1 inch $899
6.7 inch $1049

But it seems to me, since the 6.1 inch will be the lower end:

6.1 inch $749
5.4 inch $949
6.7 inch $1049

But.... the other possibility is that the 5.4 and 6.7 will be almost “ notchless”, stainless steel/titanium frame , higher dpi screens, 3 camera’ s+ TOF sensor, ceramic back, etc.

And the new (XIIR ?) 6.1 will have a classic notch , but this time with smaller bezels than the XR , and an oled screen , a glass back with 2 camera’ s. Basically a 6.1 inch iPhone XS.(with the camera layout of the upcoming 2019 XR/XIR)

But looking forward to a foldable iPhone in 2021. at least that is my guess.

agree about the weight factor.
all iPhones have increased in weight since iPhone 5. every model, every year.

if iPhone 8 is still in the line up after this year's 2019 launches, then i will probably buy an iPhone 8 if they havent done anything to decrease size and weight.

dont want a notch.

can't do anything about the camera bump...

Apple produces items based on profit, not popularity.

It's much more profitable to sell a bigger more expensive phone.
No. Apple produces products on what the customers want and then figures the margin from there. That doesn’t necessarily mean Apple takes it’s market research from macrumors forum posters.

Yesss I mean the iPhone X size is okay but I really want a smaller phone, my hands are small and the x feels big

Does anyone care about next years iPhones? We’re still 3 months away from this years yet!
Of course! Who cares about the mediocre 2019 models since the 2020 ones will bring big updates. If your phone ain't broke, wait for it. I can't think of better way than to show Apple that consumers don't need to buy a new phone each year. If you're smart, wait.

Customers haven’t upgraded every year for many years (and most never did at all). I’m still happily using a nearly four year old 6s after having the 4s and 5s, and it’ll be five years old when I upgrade in 2020. The 5.4” will be perfect for me, as it will be slightly smaller than my 6s.

Can we please have a smaller phone? I've got a iPhone 8 and will probably have to hold onto it for years to come.

Even at 4.7" it's a bit big for my liking.

The way we're going by 2030 you'll be able to use your phone as a surf board.

2019 iPhone year is turning out to be the worst year to year change in a long time. How many people upgraded last year or two are even remotely interested in this years phone?

The 5.8” model is basically the same size as the 4.7”

Most people don’t want an SE, but a smaller flagship with the new generation components. If people want a phone meant to be used with two hands the Max is there. Currently, none of the X-style phones are nearly ergonomic enough for comfortable one-handed use. And Apple’s hand was likely forced on the size of the iPhone X due to the size of the FaceID components. They probably actually wanted the phone to be smaller originally, and new smaller FaceID component will allow them to bring the screen size back down.

The screen ergonomics are not the same though, not even close. Reaching the top of the screen requires a significant shift in position of the phone to reach the top of the screen, especially the half opposite your thumb.

I never used a 4.7” model much. I had the x for a year(came from a 7+) and felt super small. I have small hands and could use the x easily with one hand. Ultimately went back for the xsmax as I missed the width and felt the x was too small. I can still use the xs max one handed a lot of the time.

New small size sounds good to me. If they’re bringing back 3D Touch in 2020, I’ll buy.
3D Touch will go, and there is no coming back. Get ready for that long press thing.
The phones are approaching the size of the iPad Mini.
Yet cannot do the same thing iPad mini can do. Such as split view or multitasking.
I always bought a new iPhone every year. However, I stopped with the iPhone 7 Plus (which I still use). The ONLY thing that will convince me to part with new money will be the implementation of a proper dual-SIM model (ie. the Chinese version) worldwide. eSIM is useless for me as both my carriers in Australia and Italy (both their national carriers, i.e. Telstra and TIM) still do not support eSIM and both have recently stated they have no intention of doing so! Apple, are you listening? Why is it so difficult to release the standard dual-SIM version worldwide as an option if it already exists?
China is special, so Apple comply with that specific country. There is no sign that any other country would actively block eSIM, including Australia. With that being said, I also want Telstra to get into eSIM as soon as possible. Now with Optus, maybe Telstra can feel a bit more motivated to do so?
The issue is that 5G will inevitably suffer the same fate as 4G.

When 4G was first around it was brilliant. Super fast for what people needed, and an unsaturated network. Fast forward a few years, now pretty much everyone is using 4G networks, and data usage has increased along with speed, it's gone back to being unusable in most large cities.

Same will inevitably happen with 5G. When every phone operates from it, and people start streaming Netflix, etc, in 4K rather than 720/1080, it'll saturate and slow down again.
But people will yell at us “6G will be available by then, and we can enjoy even faster download speed than before”, only to realise 6G will share the same fate as 5G. Let this wheel keep rolling. /s

You can only use them one-handed if you shift the phone in your hand to reach the top of the screen, generally going from actually holding the phone to sliding your fingers behind it, loosely supporting it. It’s not that it’s utterly impossible, it’s annoying and unwieldy to have to shift the phone in your hand to hit certain things on the screen.

Noooooo.. I don't wanna go down to 5.4" but I don't wanna go all the way UP to 6.7".... Unless maybe the notch is gone and it's all display!
