Now I don’t have a ruler with me, just wondering what a “full screen” SE would have been? 5 inches plus a little, maybe?
If that is the case, I am sold!

Xs and 8 are effectively the same physical size
There's are times where I would love an XS like when its docked for driving and other times like sitting on a train but I don't know if I could ever deal with that thing in my front pants pocket. Im currently using iPhone 8 without a case and it's glorious for size in my pocket.

iPhone XS and iPhone 8 are effectively just about the exact same physical size, difference being 0.2" in height and 0.15" in width, that difference is imperceivable. However, you get a 5.8" screen vs. a 4.7" screen.

It's odd that I've gone straight from never having an iPhone for more than a year since the 3G through to the X, which I may end up keeping for four years if these predictions turn out true. At least I'll be £3000 better off for it, less maybe a battery replacement somewhere along the way.

I think it's a combination of price, lack of compelling reasons to upgrade, and maybe I'm just getting old(er) and less passionate about this stuff

From comments I've read on various threads, it seems that a lot of people (including myself) are on the fence about upgrading their iPhones this year. I normally upgrade every year but if the upgrades this year are minimal (i.e. just the camera and a faster processor), having a clue about what is coming in 2020 might influence me on whether to upgrade in 2019 or wait until 2020. I take a lot of outdoor photos with my XS Max so I may go ahead and upgrade in September but I am less confident about that decision right now than I have been in past years.

Same here. Actually 2018 with the XS/XR launch was the first time I never upgraded, and my X still feels amazingly new. Knowing that 2020 is the year that will bring a bigger change makes me feel like holding off another year (kind of crazy to think after upgrading every year for a decade that I could hold onto the same iPhone for 3 years).

In exactly the same boat! And I get a free phone every two years from my employer and still saw no reason to upgrade my X. Honestly, see no reason to upgrade this year either.

Hopefully he's wrong and we get an SE 2.

I think a 5.4" iPhone would fit the bill as an SE replacement so long as its full screen, or as near as full screen as Apple can make it.

My only concern would be the size of that necessary notch for Face ID. The smaller the display the larger that notch becomes proportionately to the screen and the smaller the space they have left and right to fit things as they are now. It is this that makes me feel that there has been no smaller iPhone to date. The big question is when. People are getting tired of waiting and I stopped waiting for an SE2 last year which is the only reason why I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S10 today.

But the more interesting question is:
How will the camera bump on the rear will look like in 2020 and beyond?

Every year is getting bigger and bigger :) Wondering how the bump for the 2022 iPhone will look like....

dims

What Tim Cook can do right now is just changing sizes as well as increasing the price.

I believe other than the first gen iphone, the display size has had a change or addition every two years (one year with the xr). Wondering if the lineup of display sizes will ever settle.

If true? The 5.4 inch (as long as top of the range) will be a god send, for too long there hasn't been a real choice in the size of the phones available, Apple have just lazily been following the Korean & Chineese trend of bigger is easier to make I will definetly upgrade if a 5.4 is available

Does anyone care about next years iPhones? We’re still 3 months away from this years yet!

I think everyone's feeling that the 2019 iPhones are going to be the same iterative spec bumps to the iPhone lineup as the past few years have been. And while there are most likely going to 3 cameras on the back that ship has long sailed past from other manufacturers. Exactly what is there to be excited about?

Apple needs to not only catch up again but to also surpass a lot of great phones out there that come in at smaller price points. Not only that, they need to start competing in the mid-range price point as opposed to solely at the top end of the flagships. All their work in the services areas will come to naught of they lose their device sales.

The closer we get to this year's iPhone announcement, the further I lean towards keeping my iPhone X for another year. Since the rumored 2020 models seem like a real upgrade (5G, Qualcomm modems), I'm certainly not going to spend over a grand on a phone that I'll only keep for a year.

6.7'' is overkill. 2021 will be what the size of an iPad min display? Ridiculous.
I don't really have a problem with 6.7, as long as their is a real choice for sizes, if someone likes to walk about with a brick, that's their choice.....for me personally 5.4 is ideal

My girl friend has an XS, it's noticeably bigger than my 8! I think you are just quoting Apple spin when they launched the X....5.4 would be perfect! A real choice at last

Presumably the 6.1 is the less expensive phone. If true, once again if you want the ‘old’ premium pricing, or you can’t handle oled, you’ve got a huge phone.
