I think a 5.4" iPhone would fit the bill as an SE replacement so long as its full screen, or as near as full screen as Apple can make it.

My only concern would be the size of that necessary notch for Face ID. The smaller the display the larger that notch becomes proportionately to the screen and the smaller the space they have left and right to fit things as they are now. It is this that makes me feel that there has been no smaller iPhone to date. The big question is when. People are getting tired of waiting and I stopped waiting for an SE2 last year which is the only reason why I'm using a Samsung Galaxy S10 today.

S10 is even bigger than XS, never mind SE....so your logic leaves me dumb founded ....clearly u moved to samsung for other reasons, so your post is just a load spin!

Xs and 8 are effectively the same physical size

iPhone XS and iPhone 8 are effectively just about the exact same physical size, difference being 0.2" in height and 0.15" in width, that difference is imperceivable. However, you get a 5.8" screen vs. a 4.7" screen.

My fault...my brain was thinking you wrote XS Max.

Exactly. I don't think 5.4 inch phone is going to be that much smaller than the current XS. Ugh.

Were they really? Well maybe I'm wrong then and this 5.4 will be great. I hope you are right. I never measured my SE. But if they make the 5.4 so it can be used one handed, I will be very happy.

In old terms, it will be approx 4.5 inch....slightly smaller than the 8 and half an inch bigger than the SE, which in my book is perfection

I don't really have a problem with 6.7, as long as their is a real choice for sizes, if someone likes to walk about with a brick, that's their choice.....for me personally 5.4 is ideal

My girl friend has an XS, it's noticeably bigger than my 8! I think you are just quoting Apple spin when they launched the X....5.4 would be perfect! A real choice at last

Compare the two phones side by side WITHOUT cases. I'm not quoting any kind of a spin, I am quoting objective measurements; I've also done it myself. There is an imperceivable size difference between the X/Xs and the 6/7/8 model phones.

Everything is so 'meh'. I used to think you should upgrade every 2 years, now I think it's every 3 or 4, depending on the condition of your phone. There's nothing compelling anymore, which puts them in the same category of laptops and PCs.

5.4 inches? The XS is already too small. So, to get a larger screen, it’s either the bulky, heavy XR with its thick bezels or a $1,200+ Max? Jesus.

Unfortunately, Android alternatives keep looking better and better.

Get an Android then

Does Broadcom currently supply RF Amplifiers for iPhones? I thought Skyworks was the current RF Amplifier supplier? Am I incorrect? Have Broadcom and Skyworks both been RF suppliers in today’s iPhones?

Is this a move away from Skyworks? :apple:

Unless they're giving us an X in an SE body (and I mean an exact SE body, I don't know that I want a smaller XI.

Screw USB-C. Its too big and not as durable.

No, it's not perfect, but I'd just prefer all my Apple gear to support the same connector. I'm forced to carry way too many cables and adapters around in my briefcase to support the 6 Apple devices I use daily.

The 5.4" is tempting!

The 5.8" phone is right at the edge of 1-handed use for me. It works, barely. But I get jealous every time I pick up an iPhone 8, though. I wished my phone was just a tad smaller.

The 5.4" model is like an edge-to-edge iPhone 8. More display, and it will fit in my hand again!

I partially agree. However, you said ‘nothing is compelling anymore’, so my question to you, what do you consider compelling then? I mean, they added Face ID, the triple lens camera is slated to be a huge upgrade this fall, what is it you’re expecting to be compelling that the other competitors have over Apple? Because the way I see it, no one is really head of Apple in terms of adding technology to their phones, consumers generally upgrade when they’re ready when their current device is paid off/experiences hardware problems Or is longer supported.

Keep in mind, I don’t think consumers generally look for major upgrades every year with smart phones, I think they look for the devotion that iOS is supported through a minimum of five years for software updates, and that alone is a huge reason why consumers don’t upgrade as often.

It seems 2020 will be year to buy a new iphone, and the year with a greater sells than 2018 and 2019
It seems we will get a slightly new design also with srink in bezels with iphone 5.4" 138.6 x 70mm and with an 6.7" iphone 159 x 77.5
Along with 5nm cpu and ios14 new interface design

Well, there’s a good reason Apple is supporting iPhones for about 5 years. At least they keep those who are still with older phones up to date in terms of software.

Still on my 6S, and might stretch it even longer since it’s still being supported on iOS 13.

New small size sounds good to me. If they’re bringing back 3D Touch in 2020, I’ll buy.

Hmm Kuo, Kuo....

Already trying to get me to upgrade.. Well its Not gonna happen this year.:mad: I'm staying with S cycle for upgrades..:p:p

Have the Xs MAX...:apple::apple::apple:

However curious about USB-C and camera updates :rolleyes::rolleyes:

This is the first cycle where analysts and enthusiasts are more excited about the next cycle's refresh than the one about to release this September. I'm wondering if Apple should even bother releasing a 2019 model--just delay the launch until we get 5G.

I'm not too sure about shrinking the 5.8 Xs--that's the perfect size for me. 5.4 might be a bit too small but I don't want to go up to a flat screen TV in my pocket either.

I gave up waiting for a smaller phone… period. So ended up just going larger. I moved to Samsung for many reasons but the primary reason (as in larger than all the other reasons put together) was there was no SE2 at the last iPhone keynote. And, had I not given up last year I would still be looking at rumours say "next year".
