People should have known that 2020 will be the major upgrade. Anyone who thought 2019 was going to be big was setting themselves up for disappointment
Why should people assume that? They also thought that about the X. We are in an era of innovation plateau. Tech advanced so fast (always, yes, but especially in the late 00s-10s specific to mobile devices) and we got spoiled. It may be some years before we are "shocked" again.

Haven't been remotely interested in a new Apple product in quite some time, and have a feeling that won't change tomorrow. Pretty sad that I am most excited for something as basic as a reliable keyboard on a MacBook... a feature that was taken for granted (as it should be) just a few years ago. And I'm not even sure they can deliver that anymore. That's how low my expectations for Apple have become. Thinking about how excited I used to be for these keynotes during the Jobs era seems so bizarre now. Been disappointed by them so many times I just don't care anymore.

The question is whether or not those with an older iPhone 6 or 7 will/can hold out for 2020 or jump ship to Android.

I hope Apple isn’t taking their customers for granted.

Before XS came out every body said the same thing- this is an “S” year, true upgrade will be next gen (as always) in 2019. Now we have this next gen iPhone but, as it turns out, you have to wait ANOTHER year for major upgrades! And who can guarantee, that in a 2-3 months from now, it will not repeat- well, 2020 will be just performance and water resistance upgrades, but major iPhone upgrade is coming in 2021!
If these rumors turns out to be true, it would be shame to call it even an “s” upgrade. Really hoping for other announcements to be at least somewhat interesting.

I want to know if Qualcomm modem will replace the horrible Intel modems for Verizon phones in this model. That's important to me

With most changes being next year, Apple needs all the features possible in this years phone... not good if they start removing what little the iPhone 11 had planned

We may have had lots of rumours as usual. But I’m actually rather amazed at the lack of parts leak this year. Have they really been clamping down on security at their factories?

They share similar sharper edges (more ice cream slabby) while the 6 to 8 have the rounder edges.
I guess, but the X models have rounded edges too. You could also toss the original, 3G and 3GS in the rounded edges group too.

The "unsaid rule of four" would start with the 6, imo, as the 4 and 5 was too different in design to be grouped. You could consider the different models with the iPhone 5 form factor as the first group of four, but the iPhone 4 and 4s should be in their own group, imo.

A better grouping would be by generation, imo:
1. 2g
2. 3G, 3GS
3. 4, 4s
4. 5, 5s, 5c, SE*
5. 6, 6s, 7, 8
6. X, XS, XR, probably 11

*Although released later, still had the 5 form factor

If this is true, I'll be curious to see what Apple announces to entice people to upgrade from the current XS line.. For me, it would have been something as simple as moving from the Lightning port to USB-C, since it is currently a huge hassle when I take my 2019 IPad Pro with me and have to have to different chargers, cables, etc.
Apple’s target for iPhone 11 Pro surely aren’t iPhone XS owners...

The only thing I was waiting for was two-ways wireless charging and that's so I can charge my Apple Watch and AirPods whenever I want. Says so much about my excitement for the new iPhones vs Apple Watch 5.

Not that the iPhone sucks or Apple is doomed, it is just that I am content with my XR.
I’m sure your iPhone dies before the Apple Watch though, so I don’t know what the point is.

Two way charging is a gimmick. This is a fact.
BUT this would also be the second time in a row Apple under delivery in charging technology. Something to think about.

Seriously. These guys are a joke. Ask your self- just a couple hours before the event- when everything has already been in place for months - kuo and gurman are not even sure if the charging feature is in place or not??

We've come a LONG way in a very short time! I think people forgot that just 12 years ago, the iPhone was first introduced and set a whole new bar for mobile technology.

Two-way charging doesn't seem to be a very efficient use of a mobile's battery. I remain skeptical of that feature, and I agree that Apple should lean towards the conservative with that feature, rather than shipping it "just because" the competition, namely Samsung, offers it.
thats the point. Apple 'Used' to set the bar, but not anymore, that is what many are concerned. Tell me one feature in recent years that 'Set's' the bar..(may be just FaceID).

People expect innovation like you mentioned from Apple.

sometimes, it comes in handy. Have S10+ for almost 45 days, i did this three to four time. My wife uses Iphone 8 plus.

Coming back from Android the 2nd Time (Huawei P30 Pro, Samsung Galaxy S7). Little bit disappointing this News. But i am looking forward to be back on IOS and enjoy the convenience and services that apple has to offer.

If you're on the upgrade program, or even a carrier plan that allows you to upgrade every year, it makes sense to upgrade, to take advantage of it. I might do that this year. Probably go through AT&T Next if I don't feel like getting Apple Care

Without much advancement in the features of the phone, I would argue it makes even more sense to save the $1300, or whatever you pay, and use that to invest for a year in Apple and at least let them pay you some dividends until a real knockout phone comes along.

Hint: They don’t plan on enticing people to upgrade from an iPhone XS. They understand that most people aren’t getting a new phone every year — fewer than before even at the two-year mark — and they’ve adjusted their release cycle accordingly. You are simply not part of the target market, and they are therefore simply not trying to impress you.

They’re not gonna say no — they’ll happily take your money no matter how frustrated or unenthusiastic you are about it. That’s their job as a company. Of course, you also have the option of putting those hundreds of dollars toward something about which you are enthusiastic or saving it. That’s your job as a customer.

Early on, we all knew this years phone was not going to support 5G, there really was no reason to get off the Tik Tok cycle.

Apple saw the other companies innovating and they chose to hide under the bed.

For me, I would have done the big design changes this year (notch less front camera display, usb-c support) while making things like 5G support, under screen finger print scanner, and maybe even the laser guided camera part of the Tok part of the cycle.

If Apple had embraced the design change this year, then they really could have blown Samsung out of the water by creating a thinner Apple Pencil that could have somehow docked near or within the phone.

For me (and I assume many other people) the biggest draw here would be eliminating the need to travel with a separate charger just for the watch. If I could just plug in my phone at night and rest my watch on top of it, that would be amazing.
This would require a new Apple Watch hardware no? I’m not aware that any of the current models of the Apple watch support wireless charging?

I’m not sure how I feel about the bilateral charging, as this was the only reason I bought the new AirPods with the wireless charging case. Even if the feature has an impact on the battery life, I guess it is always handy to have it and just use it if you want to. I was really excited for the iPhone X keynote, then, last year, was meh, as expected, but still upgraded to XS Max for the bigger screen. Based on the rumours, it seems like the new iPhone will be even more minor update than what Xs was. We will know tomorrow, but it’s kinda sad...

More minor than XS? I mean come on. They sold you the exact same phone last year in comparison to 2017.
