No Pencil support ! So disappointing !! I will buy an iPad Pro just to prove to Apple that I want pencil support, even though I don't want to carry around an extra device.

People should have known that 2020 will be the major upgrade. Anyone who thought 2019 was going to be big was setting themselves up for disappointment

People do and should expect more from an annual device upgrade than having to wait YET another year to see some significant change. But it looks like anyone who expects to be dazzled by Apple devices nowadays is setting themselves up for disappointment.

So many haters on here. Cracks me up! If you base your decisions on RUMORS then your life is utterly pathetic. I could easily say the upcoming Pixel is a snooze fest, a camera upgrade and a couple of gimmicks... yawn. But I don’t make assessments on rumors. Apple haters will post here thinking they can influence buying decisions. Guess what? You can’t. I’ll buy one of these out of pure spite

It's true we can't expect mind-blowing new technology every year, but it's not as if there aren't new features to be envisioned for the phone, like USB-C, bilateral charging, touch ID under the screen, pencil support. Dave 2D put it best by saying that the 2019 phone will be a "placeholder" phone. That's not to say that it's not going to be a great phone, just that those who have an X and XS should probably skip this year and wait for 2020 when the real innovations come. I have an iPhone 8 with a dated design, so for me, this will be a big upgrade. If this is just a super-refined iPhone X, then all the better for me. I've been getting the "S" phones for years. I always prefer to skip out on the new features and wait for the more refined version.

IMO that's a misrepresentation of 'S' phones.

Typically an S phone would reuse a physical design and use their time to integrate some new feature.

This year you get a super tired design and apparently no new features, the worst of both worlds.

Tim is playing a game of chicken with customers. Customers are holding onto phones for longer because they're more expensive, so Tim is rationing upgrades out over longer periods too. It's a joke that the standard news cycle is now "new feature now available on Android phones is expected to come to iPhones in 2 years".

Sold my XS MAX for $1100 CDN. I’ll be upgrading only because I don’t lose out after buying it on a contract, however if it wasn’t for the ecosystem I’d be going elsewhere. How does Apple get away with offering a 5w charger in 2019?

Because people confuse their worth as a human with the value of Apple as a company, so like yesterday's discussion you get people defending them no matter what and claiming Apple is just protecting the environment by shipping 5W chargers since most customers "wouldn't notice" the improved charging speed.

Disappointing, now we will have a two hour presentation on how they improved a five year old technology like tile and made it better and improved our credit cards. Great

Oh god, I didn't think about them reporting Apple Card stats. It's guaranteed they'll boast about the number of accounts opened but if they put the total money spent up on screen I may actually vomit.

If this is true, I'll be curious to see what Apple announces to entice people to upgrade from the current XS line.. For me, it would have been something as simple as moving from the Lightning port to USB-C, since it is currently a huge hassle when I take my 2019 IPad Pro with me and have to have to different chargers, cables, etc.
What huge hassle? What chargers? What etc? What are you talking about? Do you even have an iPad Pro? Because it doesn’t sound like it.

The only thing you need to bring to charge your Lightning iPhone vs. a USB-C iPhone is a cable, obviously USB-C to Lightning. That’s it.

Sure, if Apple switched to USB-C on iPhone, you and maybe 5 or 10 million other iPad Pro owners wouldn’t need to carry that cable anymore. Awesome, you would all be dancing and rejoicing. But the 1.3 billion owners of Lightning devices wouldn’t be so happy.

They and their 5+ billion Lightning devices, cables, chargers and accessories carry a little more weight than those who own iPad Pro. Do you really think Apple is going to inconvenience a billion people just so a few million people don’t have to carry a charging cable for their iPhone when they travel with an iPad Pro?

Yet another charging thing going bye bye. I would probably not have used it so no biggie. Some camera improvement as usual but not enough for me to upgrade from a fully functioning iPhone 7 Plus.

What I am interested in is a new Watch. Will be sad if they only release new materials instead of a new Watch. But since sleep tracking and some other features leaked and they never talked about it during WWDC I guess it’s dependent on some new Watch hardware to some extent. Please Apple add some new sensor!

Tell that to the general users who want to have the latest Apple logo on their pockets.

Shops will probably start turning around their demo units since the only differences between the iPhones 10 and 11 are visible from the back

"Do you prefer a centred logo and a square bump, or an offset logo and a rectangular bump...?"

Unless Samsung improved bilateral charging on the Note 10, it's still a waste. I've heard from many people that it's terrible on the S10. It absolutely nukes your battery life. So the iPhone not having it, while disappointing, is not a big deal IMO.

I don't like the idea of bilateral charging. Mainly because I don't want to sacrifice precious phone power for another device. If Apple doesn't the functionality, I hope that they haven't included the hardware for it (assuming that the hardware is different from one way Qi charging).

We've come a LONG way in a very short time! I think people forgot that just 12 years ago, the iPhone was first introduced and set a whole new bar for mobile technology.

Two-way charging doesn't seem to be a very efficient use of a mobile's battery. I remain skeptical of that feature, and I agree that Apple should lean towards the conservative with that feature, rather than shipping it "just because" the competition, namely Samsung, offers it.

Yes just bring a power pack with wireless charging and you're set

This is heading to be another lazy update, which is odd because we got the usual S update last year that only brought refinements (with the additional of the XR "entry level" model) - this time it's supposed to be a major update, but it doesn't sound like it's happening.

Most people saying "I'll just stick with XXX because 2019 is disappointing".

Be honest with yourselves, you weren't upgrading anyways.

I am seriously considering an upgrade. My son needs a new phone and passing on my SE seems ideal. However, with the pricing Apple is making my decision to upgrade really hard. I don't want to buy a phone that is a minor update to a three year old model (iPhone 8) and the XR and XS are far too pricey for me. The new models won't be cheaper. Hopefully price drops on the XS and XR, but even re-introducing the X and dropping the XS and XR would be OK. Apple will have my money tomorrow if there's something worthwhile to purchase at a good price.

Eh, while the feature set appears to be slightly disappointing, we have to put things in contest.
I think we still all have the "old Apple" at heart, at a time when other manufacturers were playing catch-up, didn't have consistent ecosystems, made hit-or-miss products etc.
Smartphone innovation has been quite stagnant for the last couple of years, it's only logical other brands would, sooner or later, catch up to Apple.

Keeping a yearly release schedule is not a good decision IMO. Financially, sure. But technologically? Nah.

That being said, I am quite mad at how Apple is handling the Mac side of things. I hope the eventual ARM switch will bring forth a new wave of competition in the market.

Really, if nobody boos or groans during the keynote this time, and it's all cheers and wows for an extra camera lens or 15% higher performance on the same ol' €1500 phone chassis, it's proof the audience is in fact animatronic.

People who been follow long this site for the last year should know. Will the public know ? Probably not. I’m speaking directly to people on here

Ok, but again, why? Up until this blog post we were expecting certain features to be there and now a rumor the night before is saying differently and you think we should have already known this? There has been no reason to think this would be a minor upgrade in form factor only.

If Apple thought last year was disappointing in terms of public sentiment, then this year is going to be a whole lot worse.
At least last year they introed the Max and XR. If we were going by their slogan on the invite, Apple wouldn't be invited!

Surely they have some software magic lined up. There has to be something...
