So it’s even more intriguing then. Hard to believe 2 way charging was scraped in the last moment with the hardware already built in the phones.

That same "leaked" slide says AirPower's sale date is "TBD."

Not sure why people are still posting it.

People should have known that 2020 will be the major upgrade. Anyone who thought 2019 was going to be big was setting themselves up for disappointment

So what makes you think Apple is going to break years of tradition and do something special on a "S" spec bump year?

That member was indicating that the ‘S years’ typically aren’t that big with improvements, it’s a ‘leap year’ in terms of when major changes come to smart phones, 2020 will probably bring more significant changes that we kind a have a general idea of what to expect. Now, that said, the triple lens camera still has a lot of potential to be a game changer tomorrow and that alone, might be a huge upgrade depending which model iPhone someone has.

I'm ready, will see those "innovation only" things and laugh a lot probably. Hope I'll be wrong.

Agreed... could be quite embarrassing.
And seriously, if I already have an 18w charger, sounds like I already have the 2019 iPhone :D

I will keep my iPhone X, and get one next year.

Just buy an 18w charger. Sounds like that is roughly equivalent to buying a 2019 iPhone. And cheaper.

Disappointing, now we will have a two hour presentation on how they improved a five year old technology like tile and made it better and improved our credit cards. Great

So basically anytime there’s an Apple rumor with “charging” in it, you should probably assume it’s not going to happen.

Probably going to hold onto my X for another year... one of the only things that would have made me upgrade this year and give up 3D Touch was the two way wireless charging for my AirPods, and sometimes my watch in an emergency. I know 3D Touch has been handicapped to hell in iOS 13, but at least I can still use it to invoke the Haptic Touch animation (it’s currently too slow with the long press).
I’ve had more than enough situations where two way charging would have been useful to have on my phone. It would be cool if it allowed you to share power between phones too, not just AirPods and watch. There have been a number of times where I or a friend had a full or close to full battery, while the other was far less and we had no chargers. We would have gladly shared some power with each other in those situations.

Also seems that the under the screen fingerprint sensor didn’t make the rumor round this time either. That’s another feature I would have upgraded for. That would have been a great justification for removing 3D Touch from their phones that I would have accepted.

I’m always interested in the new silicon. So that’ll be interesting. Otherwise this seems like a pretty meh release. I’m still rocking an 8 and would probably still be using a 6S if I didn’t have a free upgrade.

Sounds like 2020 is setting up for a more serous change (TouchID on screen, USB-C, etc.)

The camera is probably gonna be nice but as someone who’s pretty point and shoot... basically I need a camera with an eye for photos, haha. I don’t have one.

When Samsung and Huawei change nothing but the camera and the camera
People: There’s innovation right here!
When Apple do so, along with changing the internals of the iPhone
People: Boo! No innovation!

I'm no Samsung fan, but this BS right here is why they hate us. Samsung has never released a flagship product without introducing a swath of new features, whether they become popular or not.

So what makes you think Apple is going to break years of tradition and do something special on a "S" spec bump year?

They already broke years of tradition in 2017 with the iPhone X. It followed the iPhone 7 in 2016, making two consecutive non-S years.

2019 may well be another "S" year with 2020 the next true new design year.

We've come a LONG way in a very short time! I think people forgot that just 12 years ago, the iPhone was first introduced and set a whole new bar for mobile technology.

Two-way charging doesn't seem to be a very efficient use of a mobile's battery. I remain skeptical of that feature, and I agree that Apple should lean towards the conservative with that feature, rather than shipping it "just because" the competition, namely Samsung, offers it.
I agree 100%. I think things we hear as rumors are the things letting too many down. Though I love to see major innovation each year I think (speaking personally) it’s easy to forget the power and how far we have progressed. It’s phenomenal what these small devices can do and I think we are reaching a peak that is difficult to raise the bar a great deal every year.

The 6S was a major upgrade.

The A9 was a bigger than usual gain in performance, they doubled RAM to 2GB (another biggie), 3D Touch, Retina Flash, NVMe storage, 12MP camera with 4K recording and 1080P at 120FPS slo-mo.
I told my wife to wait for 6s instead of the 6. Glad we did. That 6s is still in use in her extended family and is reasonably peppy, without the painful constant tab reloads.

BTW, CoinX said tomorrow would bring one more thing, and Mark Gurman says that thing is the 10.2" iPad.

Right! So, for this “By Innovation Only” event, we’re getting:

-an iPhone XS with another camera tacked on to the back and a faster processor
-new Apple Watch colors
-Tile but 2x as expensive and worse compatibility

Sorry but no matter how you put it this is not innovation.

I am sort of expecting Apple to blow our minds with something entirely unexpected, because Jesus, it simply cannot be that this is the best they can do in a year.

If you baby your employees and if you are too busy preaching your unsolicited sociopolitical views than actually working, then yes, this is the best you can do in a year.

Or maybe, decrease the notch, add a 18w charging brick on the box, improve the stereo speakers, add a 3D object scanning camera on the back, upgrade lightning to USB-C, improve the battery life, add fingerprint sensor on the screen. How ‘bout that?
Didn’t I already mention most of that?

Somewhat ironic that Apple is introducing technology that has been traditionally used to to locate lost keys and wallets, while simultaneously trying to make keys and wallets obsolete. I carry all the cards I need in my iPhone case and my wallet basically lives in a hidden compartment in my bag. I always know where it is. My keys on the other hand are still traditional and I’ll be slapping an Apple “Tile” on them ASAP!

i need three tiles, one for each kid. For when I lose them in Walmart.

2017 was both an S and non-"S" year. The iPhone 8 Plus was technically the 7S. They just chose a different number because it wouldn't feel right for something to sound so outdated from the onset, especially when you have a different product looming around the corner with a much higher number.
