iPhone X is still good for me and most of the people. I will upgrade my phone if only 5G become mainstream.

They’re not gonna say no — they’ll happily take your money no matter how frustrated or unenthusiastic you are about it. That’s their job as a company. Of course, you also have the option of putting those hundreds of dollars toward something about which you are enthusiastic or saving it. That’s your job as a customer.

I’m going to have to disagree.

We use to have two year contract phones because no one cared when you upgraded if you ever upgraded. The smartphone industry has become an arms race sort of struggle.

That was the whole point of why carriers went from slogans such as New Every Two to iPhone for life. They want Apple to innovate every year (in some way) to sell more phones.

Pay for a phone for one year and then trade it in on Apple’s newest, shiniest turd in the Punchbowl.

My god Apple has become so dull. Remember when Jobs used to make you believe you absolutely needed the latest Apple product in your life? Now it's a yawnfest. I've got an aging iMac 27inch, an aging Macbook Pro, an aging iPad and an iPhone 8 Plus. And they are all perfectly fine for my needs. Nothing Apple has produced in the last few years have compelled me to upgrade. I should be their target demographic. I should be excited enough to want the latest and greatest and I'm not.

If this is true, I'll be curious to see what Apple announces to entice people to upgrade from the current XS line.. For me, it would have been something as simple as moving from the Lightning port to USB-C, since it is currently a huge hassle when I take my 2019 IPad Pro with me and have to have to different chargers, cables, etc.
One extra cable is a huge hassle and worth 1200$? Ooook

All these talks about 5G / 2020 iPhones. I think Apple knows they have to deliver something good in 2019, not only the camera. I don't believe there is gonna be some incredible new camera technology never seen before. Just good old: bigger sensor, faster lens, better low-light capability, super-wide-angle lens. I hope that the "R" chip mentioned in previous post will bring some exciting new stuff. And you know what would be awesome: if they really focused on durability / battery life in this release.

This is very underwhelming. No wonder iPhones don’t sell much anymore. Apple shouldn’t be surprised either if sales plummet …

I’m more interested what chip they are putting in the new appletv than what phone is released this year.

The carriers don't make much money on the actual sale of the phone, do they? I'm pretty sure Apple gets most of the $1,000 or whatever the iPhone costs.

The carriers make their money from the plan... every month for the rest of your life!

A person might get a new phone every year, 2 years, 3 years or whatever... but the carriers get paid every month like clockwork.

I'm still using an iPhone 6S Plus from 2015. It was paid off a long time ago. But Verizon got a continuous stream of money from me this entire time!

Whether or not I decide to upgrade to a new phone or keep my current phone... Verizon will keep getting money from me every month.

Basically... the carriers are in the monthly plan business... not the hardware business. But yes... there needs to be hardware for them to sell monthly plans.

We've come a LONG way in a very short time! I think people forgot that just 12 years ago, the iPhone was first introduced and set a whole new bar for mobile technology.

Two-way charging doesn't seem to be a very efficient use of a mobile's battery. I remain skeptical of that feature, and I agree that Apple should lean towards the conservative with that feature, rather than shipping it "just because" the competition, namely Samsung, offers it.

12 years before the iPhone was 1995

comparing that period

to this period

technology advancement has slowed to a comparative crawl

apple domination has stifled innovation

So quite literally if Kuo is to be believed, the only possibly innovative thing Apples done is they’ve ripped off someone else’s idea about the tiles and will market it themselves..

Not really expecting much at all today then. What ‘Pro’ devices they are

The only thing that today’s event will do is make the XS and XS Max and XR worthy upgrades for people, no point buying the new ones it seems.

As already mentioned, carriers don’t make a lot on iPhone sales. Apple’s margins for hardware resales are notoriously paltry. Using Apple Authorized Resellers as an example, you almost never see an Apple Authorized Reseller that only resells Apple products because Apple would never allow them to make enough money on purchases to keep the doors open and pay their employees, let alone turn a healthy profit.

You are the perfect example for brainless consumerism, aren't you? You should be happy that all that stuff you bought for thousands of dollars still works in a way that makes upgrading unnecessary at this point in time. Your comment is off the charts.

Ripped off or came out with their own Bluetooth tracking device?

I guess Samsung ripped off the AirPods when they came out with Buds?

Well, it sounds like I will be one of the few buying a 2019 iPhone....only because I'm still using an iPhone 6s and it's barely functioning, so I have no choice but to get a new phone this year. Maybe I will look into an XR to hold me over to 2020.

What do you mean by barely functioning? I have a 6s and it works perfectly fine....still “buttery” smooth and fast and the battery (for an iPhone) ok. Camera as ordinary as it ever was.

Will be sticking with my XS (most likely unless there is some major camera improvement) not because I am disappointed by any of the rumors but just because the XS is doing great at it's job.

Looks like a hard pass. Which means the “s” revision most likely will be a pass too. Good thing is most people really don’t need to upgrade your iPhone that often anymore. Maybe every 3-4 years for most folks, IMHO.

Wonder how Apple is going to try to make this sound exciting. Or maybe they won’t, and it’s all about the services and other products. Time will tell...

I'm up for an upgrade this year. Still rockin' (no g) my iPhone 6+ so this one will be a major upgrade for me. Whatever they announce.

Thinking I'll just hang on to my XR.

Most people saying "I'll just stick with XXX because 2019 is disappointing".

Be honest with yourselves, you weren't upgrading anyways.

People who need to upgrade and want to upgrade, will upgrade. Those who are more financially restrained were never really considering it anyways. I especially don't see XR users going to XS max territory.

Stoked for today’s event. Always interested in a new iPhone release. Since no one has a gun to my head it doesn’t really matter whether or not I decide to upgrade. What I will do is not get bent out of shape over rumours about rumours. Most likely I’ll wait at least another year, and that’s fine. I’m not expecting Tim to come round my house with the heavies if I don’t buy a new iPhone immediately. Getting a bit weary of outraged entitlement culture. Seems to be getting worse by the day, but maybe I’m just becoming less tolerant of whining crybabies.

I can’t help thinking that Apple would be better off just calling all future phones ‘iPhone’ and iterating annual updates without a name change. It might temper the expectations of those who expect the second coming of Christ every September.

When Samsung and Huawei change nothing but the camera and the camera
People: There’s innovation right here!
When Apple do so, along with changing the internals of the iPhone
People: Boo! No innovation!

Really? You haven't noticed Samsung constantly improving the screen to body ratio, or you're choosing to ignore that because Tim wants to reuse the same notch design yet again even though it was outdated 18 months ago?
[doublepost=1568097781][/doublepost]Looks like my post yesterday tipped Apple off...

Headline 2 months from now: "Poorly positioned Apple logo reduces wireless charging speed by 40%"

Still no reason to upgrade from the iPhone 8 this year then.

Not overly fussed about a better camera, its perfectly adequate for what I use it for and the 8 is plenty fast enough.

Even my 2017 iPad Pro 10.1" is probably 2-3 years from needing an upgrade.

Unless you literally have money to burn, even a 2 yearly upgrade cycle is probably too frequent these days.

well the people holding on to iphone 6-7 for dear life might, esp if they don't read rumors like us about 2020

That's me. And I even read the rumors :)

I probably be buying Xr upgrade, whatever it's called, and complain about having to hold a larger phone. I really wish I could have justified the $$ for the Xs upgrade. But 1000+ USD is just too much.
