I don't like the idea of bilateral charging. Mainly because I don't want to sacrifice precious phone power for another device. If Apple doesn't the functionality, I hope that they haven't included the hardware for it (assuming that the hardware is different from one way Qi charging).
I’m looking forward to getting this in a few days for phone and AW4. Sadly, the Beats Pro wireless buds need a lightning cable or this would be perfect for me.

This is a perfectly reasonable next generation iPhone. Especially if you keep yours for around 3 years, and add up each years incremental improvements, you'll still be in for a 'big' upgrade. Can't wait to watch the event live!!!

Most people saying "I'll just stick with XXX because 2019 is disappointing".

Be honest with yourselves, you weren't upgrading anyways.

People who need to upgrade and want to upgrade, will upgrade. Those who are more financially restrained were never really considering it anyways. I especially don't see XR users going to XS max territory.

Wrong. I honestly want to upgrade my 8 for the merits of a better camera and new design, but I don't feel much affinity for Apple's stalling offerings, especially looking at the magic Pixel's camera can whoop up at nighttime. If you have any doubts, check out Vlad Savov's twitter stream featuring mind-blowing Tokyo night shots. I'm tired trying to snap a shot that ends up looking no better than an iPhone 3GS picture.

There's nothing "next generation" about the 2019 phone, and it's not suddenly "reasonable" because Tim decided to turn the tic-toc cycle into a tic-toc-toc-toc to cut cost.

...other than the fact it's the next generation of iPhone... * rolls eyes *

So after a whole year of iPhone development
and a stratospheric amount of money spent worldwide on iPhones

For the 2019 iPhone we get...
  • a lower than the competition spec camera
  • a lower than the competition spec wireless charging - that doesn't integrate with other apple products
  • a screen with a chunk out of it that is still just plain ugly
On the plus side, you'll be able to...
  • Find you way around indoors (sometimes)
  • Have it in lots of colours
  • See the Apple logo on the back
  • Buy one in a very nice store

Aww man...I hope they’re wrong about the two way charging being scrapped. It was actually the biggest thing making me wanna upgrade from my XR. I dunno if an extra camera will be enough. Maybe I’ll just have to wait till the 2020 iPhone comes out. ‍♂️
How will you cope? My heart breaks for you

I still use my iP6+
Haven't seen good enough reason to switch newer model yet.

I wish they'd make classic models with newer processors :/

Well they need to sort IOS 13.1 , still some issues for me and Catalina is not ready yet as crashes and spinning beach balls way to often. Looks like this year to me personally they have run out of time to get the software stable before hardware launch. Nothing in this new iPhone will convince me to spend another £1,500 after only a year.

Oh dear, with the dearth of new features outside the third camera lens, and removal of 3D touch this genuinely feels like a side grade over the XS for the first time in iPhone history... Hopefully the base storage really does go up to 128GB so there's something people can point to.

Exactly. The tic-toc cycle vs tic-toc-toc-toc cylce of hardware can be put down to strategy - whether it will work or not is a different question. But, iOS 13 is something they should have sorted out by the launch event.

I wish USB C becomes a thing so I don't have to pack multiple cables and chargers.

On second thought I still probably would because I need a small brick and short cable for traveling anyway. Couldn't use my 15" MacBook Pro brick with that long cable to charge my iPhone on a plane haha.

We may have had lots of rumours as usual. But I’m actually rather amazed at the lack of parts leak this year. Have they really been clamping down on security at their factories?

Seriously. These guys are a joke. Ask your self- just a couple hours before the event- when everything has already been in place for months - kuo and gurman are not even sure if the charging feature is in place or not??
Apple must have tripled or quadrupled down on security this year :)

It seems Apple has charging solution issues.. first the wireless charging pad And now this....

More minor than XS? I mean come on. They sold you the exact same phone last year in comparison to 2017.
Same exact phone? You’ve got to be joking. That’s not even remotely true.

There were probably around 20 improvements to the XS over the X—with no increase in price. People have short memories I guess.
