I’ve got a hunch that maybe the reason the Slim is so thin and has worse specs than the Pro Max, yet is more expensive than it is because it may be Apple’s first folding phone, akin to the Samsung Galaxy Z Flip series

These rumors are extremely early, so more will come out next year and well get a better idea. If the slim is indeed gonna be more price than the pro max then no way they put inferior features in it compared to the pro max.

When the iPhone X came out it was the highest priced state of the art technology phone on the market. State of the art Face ID
Honestly, apple makes their product line a hot mess. Ipad air (used to be thinnest and filled a spot) but now the ipad pro is the thinnest. I feel like their phone line should be consolidated (have 3 instead of 4 models, why do we need a pro and a non pro with the same screen size?)

Possible ideas for the phone lineup (to make it less of a cluster):
  1. iphone 1 (non pro) 6.1" screen
  2. Iphone pro 6.3" screen (beefier specs) similar to what they do now
  3. Iphone pro max/ultra 6.6"+ (similar to what samsung does)
That way there is less confusion and its easy to see the pros/cons of each. The non pro line doesn't really make sense with the specs and how apple prices them compared to the pro line (and I know they use that to sell more pros but it seems dumb to even need a non pro (especially with carriers giving the devices away with 3 year payments).

Or the single camera isn't some budget option but actually Apple are going for a relatively big Lens and single sensor that might dominate the back of an ordinary phone - one camera lens to rule them all?

Probably iPhone Air...starts off as high end expensive then eventually becomes the entry level model, just like how the original macbook air started ($1899 first and now today is $899)

What if it’s both and Apple decide to go all-out for their first foldable?

Really dumb move. You're going to introduce one of the largest design changes of the iPhone in years, and it's not going to have the largest display?

I really liked when there was only one iPhone available.
I don't miss there only being one iPhone available ... it's this ridiculous range of models and confusing market structure (Plus, Ultra, Thin, Max), etc, etc. I've lost count YEARS ago regarding which is which. It's just really, really dumb. Jobs would have killed half these product lines by now, and he'd be right in doing so.

I want this device. Current Pro Max is too heavy, I have no need for all the cameras or zoom. Don't game so CPU is fine. Want top of the line display, super light / super thin, same battery life as current Pro. I don't use a case as I like to feel the device. It's my dream device.
Same on all accounts. But, it's the smaller screen that's killing me here. Why the hell would you introduce this new "thin" phone, but not showcase its new design within the largest screen size available? For me, that's a huge head-scratcher, and probably a non-starter for me and this new phone.

Big lens and sensor don't work in a slim phone.

Look at Huawei Pura 70. That's the slimmest 1-inch sensor smartphone on the market.

Seems like some kind of marketing tactic… apples obviously running out of ideas. So let’s make a “new design” but strip the specs right back… then the 18 Slim will have “dual cameras”, 19 Slim will be made from “stainless steel”, 20 Slim will have “triple cameras”, 21 Slim will come in “GOLD”, 22 Slim will have “triple cameras”…..

Why can I actually see Apple following this pattern.

And we’ll still buy into it 💀😭🤣

Indeed.

I am sure someone, somewhere has explained how it will work, but how will this record Spatial Video for the AVP?
VFX has been able to interpolate a second “camera angle” for stereoscopic shots from just the single camera for a while now. It can work, but is not as good as shooting with a correct stereoscopic camera system to begin with.

I’m sure there is a market for a more elegantly designed iPhone, perhaps with a single camera that doesn’t require a big bump, thinner, lighter, but still offering good battery life and performance. It would not need to be the biggest iPhone, or the fastest. Better, more sophisticated than the SE and base iPhone, and stripping away some of the things the Pro models have that not everyone wants/needs. The question will be whether they can hit the right price point with it that generates volumes sales.

Instead of iPhone SE, This is a better way to position a budget iPhone. If so, in this case, thin is one of the most desirable feature which should not be shared with other iPhone model make the phone more desirable without thinking lesser spec.

Max Tech said it on his YouTube page that the thin model may turn out to be the Apple Fold iPhone

I never thought Apple would do something as gimmicky as a fold or flip phone because of Apple’s super high quality standard but we will find out next year

If Apple comes out with a fold phone than that will cannalibize the iPad Mini sales so you can say goodbye to the iPad Mini

The iPad mini sales good anyways so essentially making it into a foldable phone 📱 will do the trick for Apple revenue wise

Perhaps. Maybe it’s thin so when it’s folded it’s not too thick. Maybe the specs arent the best BECAUSE it needs to fit in this thin folding chassis and lacks the same heat dissipation as the Pros. Maybe it’s more aluminum to cut weight. It would also explain the price, and perhaps 6.6 inches is the folded size? Perhaps when folded it also hides the camera bump, and it only has 1 camera due to design constraints with the new form factor.

I’m not counting on it… but it does help explain the things that don’t seem to make sense at the moment.

It’s crazy to me that the iPhone 16 lineup is less then 2months away and we have been getting more iPhone 17 rumours then iPhone 16 rumours, shows how boring the 16 launch will be lol.

That being said , I’m probably going to hold on to my 12mini another year to see if this new thin phone turns out to be a foldable 👀

Anyone know if the Samsung Z-Fold is any good, so we can get a good idea on what Apple may do with a foldable phone?

Single lens camera on a presumably flagship 2025 device? Courageous.
A camera downgrade like that on a new flagship phone doesn’t sound right…unless this new iPhone will get that advanced single lens camera that Apple patented a few years with a single lens basically doing everything the three lens on the current Pro models can do.
