Agreed here. More likely that the new iPad Pros will have USB-C charging bundled in the box, not that the lightning port on the iPad itself is changing to USB-C.

this is misunderstood , they will change to usbc from usbA, thats all

That is my thought. It is the adapter that is changing to usb-c, not the charge port on the iPad itself. Guess we will see in a couple of days.

I really wish Apple would finally go USB-C on the iPhone too. That alone would make me upgrade. Have standardized connectors for iPhone, iPad, and MacBook Pro would be extremely convenient. I wonder if USB-C is added in the 2018 iPad Pro, if that port would support Thunderbolt 3? It does not on a $1299 MacBook so I assume not. Apple should not be asking $1300 for a 12" laptop with the specs it has. That's an $800 notebook tops.

I hope the iPad Pro goes USB-C (even though it probably won't!). It's a perfectly logical place to start in terms of iOS. And we could finally get video, audio, and other peripherals connected and working at the same time through one port.

No way it will support any kind of Thunderbolt. That's an intel cpu technology anyway which of course isn't in any kind of Apple A series chipset (i guess technically Apple could license it and develop it in the future?) USB 3.1 gen 2 can do 10 Mbps so that would still be a ton of external bandwidth for an iOS device if they went with that.

I don't see Apple moving away from the Lightning connector to USB-C. I could see however, updating the controller behind the Lightning connector to USB 3.1 (The protocol used by the USB-C connector). If memory serves me correct, plugging in a USB-C to Lightning cable to an iPhone or iPad will get you faster charge times, but only USB 2.0 transfer speeds. By updating the controller, anyone connecting to an iPhone/iPad via the USB-C/Lightning cable will see much higher speeds. Adding another reason to upgrade your computer to one of the newer models.

This scenario makes more sense to me than Apple throwing away the Lightning port. I guess we will see in two days.

Looks like GnomeIsland was thinking the same thing as me (see Post #75)

As someone who wears a continuous glucose monitor, I can tell you, we will not have non-invasive continuous glucose monitors (CGM) anytime soon. The technology for a CGM has just recently become good enough to use reliably. These reliable models are all invasive. Optical CGMs are a LONG way away. I wish I were wrong, but I just don't see this happening on a watch before the end of the decade.

These don't work?

Nevermind, not available yet on the the market.

Series 3 as the base model and the Series 4 be a higher tier device, both with ceramic backs. Series 1 discontinued.

I can't see the 'new' Macbook be lower priced and also include Touch ID....
If that’s the case they can keep the Apple Watch. I wouldn’t pay more than the series 3 is currently priced and I wouldn’t buy a series 3 at its current price even if it’s one year old. I’ll just keep my old Apple Watch and stop using one when it dies. It’s nice to have but it’s definitely not worth the price it costs, let alone a bigger one.

The MacBook definitely has to drop in price. At the moment it has an extortionate price with little justification. Touchid really can’t bring the price up as it’s an old technology that costs very little to Apple.

Do you think Apple makes any sense at all recently? Look at this travel package:

  • MacBook: USB-C to USB-C
  • Previous gen iPhone as work phone: USB-A to Lightning
  • iPhone XS: USB-C to Lightning
  • iPad: USB-A to Lightning
  • Apple Watch: USB-A to wireless charging puck
  • AirPods: USB-A to Lightning
  • Apple pencil: Lightning port

Think about charging all these devices at night in a hotel room and what kind of mess that would be cable and adapter wise! At least moving one more device to USB-C is slowly getting to a standard. The MacBook and iPad are on a similar path, so for them to share the same I/O would make sense.

I see your point, but that list can be considerably condensed. The iPhone "XS" is unconfirmed, and even if rumors are correct you could use the same brick for the phone and a Mac (or charge the phone through the Mac). You can use the same cable for AirPods as iPhone and iPad, so that's 1 cable not 3.

All you currently need for all those items is a brick and cable for the Mac; a Lightning cable for the iPhone, iPad, AirPods, and Pencil; and a Watch cable.

Maybe they are working towards an all USB-C lineup (iPads/Macs)? Maybe iPhones, watches and AirPods all going full wireless, no ports? I can't see them completely removing ports from the phone for at least another couple years though... Wireless isn't mainstream enough.

Well you already need USB-C for your MacBook if you’re traveling with all updated Apple products. It does get confusing though because Lighting and USB-C look similar at a glance.

True, but I often leave my Mac at home when I travel internationally and I imagine many other do as well. So to take an iPhone and iPad would require another cable for virtually no benefit.

Well I expected minimum 999$=999EUR for low cost countryphone and 1499$=1499EUR for medium size and 1999$=1999 EUR for a BigMac iPhone XL. iPad Pros starting with 1999$=1999EUR and new Macbook 12" starting from 2499$=2499EUR. Thus new Macbook Pro 2019 will start reasonable price 2999$=2999EUR and Mac Pro for just only 4999$=4999 EUR ;). Cmon Mr Cook just $799 for low cost iPhone while competitor products cost the same is a shame for Apple. iPhone Xc HDR 3D XL cannot be compared to Pocophone at any level!!! More expensive locostphone = better!!!! ;)

The Apple Pencil should have had a female Lightning port to begin with. That way if your pencil is low on battery life, you can just use a cable, plug it in to the iPad, and you're still able to use it.

Why they chose a male connector for the pencil is beyond me.

Have you ever seen a male to male Lightning cable?

The Lightning interface seems way more robust than USB-C. After two years of daily plugging and unplugging, my iPhone's Lightning connector still fits nice and snug with a positive click. My two-month old MacBook's USB-C connector has already gone from a nice secure click to much more loose-goosey slide in and hope it doesn't fall out feeling. I would hope the iPad Pro doesn't trade Lightning for USB-C. We'll see if this rumor proves accurate soon enough.

Interested in iMac updates. Hopefully we hear more about that soon.

Also I love Apple's 12" Macbook...wish I had gone for that over my Macbook Pro honest. Gonna be real bummed if they start making major changes to it.
I think iMac was rumored for 2019...probably March.

You a big Disney fan?

It comes with an adapter that allows you to charge the Pencil with a cable.
