Gotta say, I don’t see the allure of wearing this apparatus on my melon for any length of time.
I genuinely don’t know how to handicap if this will be a success or a “meh”.

What World do you guys live in where technology does not progress rapidly? It will not be that big for that long, it will be the size of a pair of sunglasses before you know it! Ai is emerging too, we almost have science fiction like AI now and it is accelerating in an incredibly rapid pace, and that will be a big part of the Apple Vision Pro!

Maybe this will be the one to eventually push VR and augmented reality into the normal-sphere. Movies push 3D every few years and its met with, mostly, a yawn. We shall see what it's like in a few years. Early adopters, enjoy! :)

I came to this forum to see people posting and talking negative to 'talk themselves out of' the purchase. Either they're on the fence about this and want it to flop so they can say "phew I'm glad I didn't buy it" or B, just don't have the disposable income for the price-point. I won't be a day 1 buyer, but am excited to see the reviews from everyday folks on here vs the Marques and Linus' of the world and then that'll sway my decision.

So first, I believe there is going to be a major commercial for this during the Super Bowl- celebrating the 40th Anniversary of the famous 1984 original Macintosh ad: "Forty years ago, we reinvented computing. Today, we do it again. Introducing VisionPro."

Next, customers have been asking about this product since it was announced. The rumor mill says there will 500,000 units available - they will sell out within a week or two. Seriously, people... you don't think there aren't half a million Apple fanboys/fangirls out there who can't wait to snap this up, regardless of price? And that's not a judgement on do we need this, it's just that Apple products sell.

So many said the Watch would fail, the iPad would fail, the iPhone would fail, and so on. Every single time, Apple has proved them wrong. No, VisionPro won't sell like iPhones do, and it isn't designed to do that anyway, but it will not be a failure.

With retail employees headed to Cupertino for training, the Super Bowl the first Sunday, in February....an early February launch seems perfectly reasonable.

The software possibilities are beyond dreaming right now. My imagination has been going wild at the chance to have 3D graphing calculator. Better visualizations of heavy mass objects distorting SpaceTime without having to collapse out a dimension to portray it in 2D.

I stand by my earlier position. This will not sell well.

If the first batch size rumor is accurate, it will sell out release day. Software will be expensive but hopefully innovative enough that the install rate will increase significantly with every hardware update, driving software pricing down.

Can’t wait to see what new hooks into the Apple ecosystem they bring to the new platform.

This seems hard to believe. I feel like that’s a very short amount of time to have consumers clear on what this product is and why they need it.

That’s why they started the conditioning last Summer. It’s not for the mass market yet. Those 500k units are going to be sold to tech nerds who will recruit their friends, family, and corporations.

This definitely will be a huge step forward for those with sight and the use of a pair of fingers who are otherwise immobilized or disabled, whether permanently or temporarily. For some, a phone did this, but I’m sure this will be a new and only option for many.

Wait a minute, I thought no one was allowed to give real opinions yet. How did he both get to use one and be honest about it? I thought all the demos were limited to the in-person appointments that the people who attended them are literally not even allowed to characterize whether it was good or bad.

Given the low volumes of shipments, it would not be desirable for Apple to create high demand since it would create a frustrated consumer base.

I suspect Apple will be content with selling to cash-rich early adopters which will (1) give them valuable real-world real-user feedback, and (2) buy Apple time to iterate on the product and produce something mass marketable.
Reminds me of the $10k watches

The first iPhone didn't sell all that well by the way. It'll take a 2nd or 3rd gen, a cheaper model, and a bit of social proofing because we kind of have no idea about the experience this device can give us.

I wonder if it's really going to be an M2 chip inside ? Or M3 ?
Yeah, my number 1 question about it too. Seems odd that with the rest of Apple’s higher end graphics oriented devices rapidly adopting their new GPU architecture with hardware accelerated ray tracing, etc. that their brand new product category, top of the line graphics oriented device that is expected to be their flagship 3D product woild spend its first generation using a now obsolete GPU architecture.
I get that the A17/M3 GPU update wasn’t even a rumor at the time Apple needed to take the Vision Pro public and so couldn’t say anything about the hardware ray tracing, etc., but seems like there’s been plenty of time now for them to say, “oh, by the way, AVP actually uses an M3 now”.
So, not really holding out much hope for that at this point. Hope I’m wrong.
Still looking forward to trying one out and making up my mind then. Really hoping demos are available before sales start.

Pure fantasy. This system will never be the size of glasses. Never.

I am just going to use it as a tv if it can match the 4K clarity, pq and black level of a high end projector. It’s something truly special to watch a movie on a 100+” screen at home you have to appreciate it in person.

The problem with projector is a decent 4K laser one with a good screen are all $5k+, not to mention the massive space required for the screen and need to keep ambient light to near zero.

With this headset, I can just put it on without having to turn off all the lights which is not practical with a family and kid, and get a 120+ or bigger screen! It’s a bargain if the picture quality can match. By all accounts it looks like apple is really going for the high end pq unlike the meta quest garbage (in term of pq). Cant wait to try it out in stores

The Meta Quest 2 sold over 20 million units and has 6 million monthly active users (numbers from last year), so maybe not totally unrealistic. Still, it seems unlikely at this point that Apple will be able to break out of this enthusiast/special-interest market.
