In this recession economy, not many people will buy this. This product is just simply not a necessity.

It's not a recession economy.

I'm financially doing great; better than ever, but I have no interest in this. Not even a passing curiosity...but I'm an anti early-adopter

Maybe in 3-5 years, I'll check it out.

The comparison to the first iPhone is a good one, because remember there was no App Store for a while. Incredible to think about now. Vision Pro needs a whole new concept of working in a 3D environment, and the app ecosystem to support that. It's going to take a while.
The iPhone had an easy to understand and compelling use case (mobile phone + music player + internet browsing), and a more inuitive UI than existing phones/PDAs. The AVP use cases are much less well-defined and are limited by the clunkiness of a headset and the lack of a tactile interface, and the UI isn’t more intuitive than touch devices either. It’s like a concept in search of actual problems to solve, while introducing a whole set of new problems.

iPhone wasn't a huge hit right away and wasn't available to everyone at first. It was behind Blackberry and Motorola Razr in sales in the US. I wanted the original iPhone but it was locked to contracts. I didn't get my first iPhone (3G) until September 2008 when it went on sale for PAYG.

I do think the headset will be a harder sell but there is still lots of potential for it. It's just going to take time. Apple is already thinking of the 2nd gen headset so it seems they just want to get this thing out the door to get the ball rolling. Like the iPhone, it's going to take a good few years worth of hardware revisions and software updates before it becomes worth thinking about for the mass market. Remember you had to jailbreak your iPhone to get copy & paste functionality until iPhone OS 3 came out ... 2 years after the first iPhone.

The original iPhone still made me and everyone I know freak out over how cool it was.

The Vision Pro has made me and everyone I know say “that’s dumb.”

Will this be a good portable device? Can a person just take it out of th backpack and put it on and it all appears quickly and seamlessly...

This thing could be $3,000 USD...today around $3,995 CDN

This could be MONUMENTAL for accessibility. It gives me chills to think about. Human ingenuity overcoming the cruelty of nature and misfortune.
If you can move your fingers and one arm and can see and speak, you're already pretty well set with existing devices. If you can't, the AVP won't be very usable either. Being able to have the 3D equivalent of a remote camera may be nice, but the QoL improvement this can bring is limited.

seems like there’s been plenty of time now for them to say, “oh, by the way, AVP actually uses an M3 now”.
So, not really holding out much hope for that at this point.

I think the right moment for this (if it’ll happen) will be the marketing push when they reveal the release date.

Yeah but all of those are hand picked by Apple. The regular developers are under NDA. I said honest opinions.

First of all in your OP you said „no-one“ was able to share an opinion, so now you back-tracked to “developers“. Well, duh - of course developers with intimate knowledge of an as yet unreleased product/platform are under NDA. And what makes you think all those opinios on youtube are not honest? Especially as those opinios are quite varied. Of course youtube is clickbait central, but that goes both ways - exaggerated praise as well as exaggerated bashing will get you clicks.

AirPod max?

Great product and probably sold well in-line with Apple‘s expectations.

Which one?

Mac cube? Newton? Lisa?

Ages ago.

For everyone paying $3.5K to beta test this for the rest of us that will buy gen3, thank you for your service!

Everyone needs to watch this

Takeaways
Great build quality
Great screens
Intuitive ui
Spatial video works well when close to the subject
Spatial is a gimmick

I stand by my earlier position. This will not sell well.

I mean, a significant proportion of the population already sees stereoscopic video as a gimmick, and the iPhone is mediocre as a 3D camera.
if this won’t give me motion sickness, I am in.

But I haven’t seen a single VR device that didn’t give me motion sickness.
What devices and apps have you used? I find that issues with motion sickness are mostly around the design of the software, rather than the limitations of the hardware. 3DOF hardware, such as the Oculus Go, Gear VR, or AR glasses, can be bad for motion sickness, though.
What World do you guys live in where technology does not progress rapidly? It will not be that big for that long, it will be the size of a pair of sunglasses before you know it! Ai is emerging too, we almost have science fiction like AI now and it is accelerating in an incredibly rapid pace, and that will be a big part of the Apple Vision Pro!
Chip progress will slow down as we are approaching fundamental physical limits.
Wait a minute, I thought no one was allowed to give real opinions yet. How did he both get to use one and be honest about it? I thought all the demos were limited to the in-person appointments that the people who attended them are literally not even allowed to characterize whether it was good or bad.
The media isn't restricted, but developers that get demos are.
I am just going to use it as a tv if it can match the 4K clarity, pq and black level of a high end projector. It’s something truly special to watch a movie on a 100+” screen at home you have to appreciate it in person.
The screens in the Vision Pro are less than 4K in width, and when you watch video on it, you don't want it to fill the full width of the displays.
The screens have much better contrast than any projector, but there will inevitably be at least some glare from the optics, so the contrast/clarity won't be as good as watching an OLED TV in a dark room.

So, because you can’t think of use cases, it’s not going to have accessibility application…got it. You must not be familiar with the incredible range of physical and motor, and vision challenges can have.

But, sure. The people involved in the filled are clearly dumb for being excited for the possibilities.

The problem with projector is a decent 4K laser one with a good screen are all $5k+, not to mention the massive space required for the screen and need to keep ambient light to near zero.

With this headset, I can just put it on without having to turn off all the lights which is not practical with a family and kid, and get a 120+ or bigger screen! It’s a bargain if the picture quality can match. By all accounts it looks like apple is really going for the high end pq unlike the meta quest garbage (in term of pq). Cant wait to try it out in stores

I'd say it's more special to watch a movie with the people around you, instead of cooped-up in a set of goggles...unless you buy everyone a set, then for my house, hey, there goes $14k.

Does this come with an anti-nausea drug prescription? Because millions of people will need one for this, including me.
I am fairly confident that this will be one of those pain points which Apple will have spent an inordinate amount of resources fixing. Maybe the problem is precisely that $500 pairs of VR headsets don't exactly give the parent company a lot of room to work with in terms of solving these issues via better hardware and hardware / software integration.

This will likely be the dealbreaker which allows users to be comfortable using the Vision Pro for extended periods of time. Just like how I didn't come across a pair of wireless headphones I particularly cared to use until Apple released the AirPods. :)

the meta quest 3 is already impressive at this so I expect the AVP to be very immersive for movies.

I am going to go demo the AVP as soon as they hit the stores, but my purchase timeframe is next Christmas at the earliest.

Still need to learn more about shareability, cost for additional batteries, and most importantly what 3rd party developers come up with for the device.

I recently recorded a few songs of the U2 concert at the Sphere in LV with my Insta360 One X and I want to see how good the quality is on the AVP since Google cardboard sucks. My videos of the U2 show are available on YT, just search for the Dec 13 date.

I'm most curious if Apple decided to go with M3 or stick with M2 for this Vision Pro ?

Hoping for a surprise with the M3 inside !

It is quite cool I am sure, but I have doubts about how big it will be. Personally, for me, I do not want to be so immersed in my entertainment that I need to wear it. And when programming at work wearing a headset does not sound appealing. I think it will be great for the right types of applications, but those applications are not the types of applications that I use. Even if this was the size of a pair of Raybans, I cannot say I would be very interested.

October was my first foray into 3d with the quest 3 and truly is amazing the potential that could be. I feel if Vision Pro comes out it’s going to be like going from the early Nintendo Wii to the Xbox 360/ps3 jump. There needs to be lot of work from developers which is the key group that will be the pillars that hold this device high. There are many apps and games in the quest verse and some are just crap and limited due to the hardware implementation etc. Apple has a chance to shine. Love to wait for few generations to see what comes of it. 2030 might be just 3d vr glasses without the bulk headset! Battery life is the most important.

I’m unclear of why these would be used instead of a television. 3D TV’s didn’t last, and these goggles are a solitary 3D device, making them even more of a gimmick. Also, where does the 5.1 or preferably 7.2 sound come from?
