Not over shipping? Are you serious right now? Over shipping? Try NOT SHIPPING AT ALL. I myself waited 8hrs in line. Gold was 1st option, silver was 2nd. I was first in line, I left with a space grey. 0 gold and 0 silver, OP is 100% right, it is totally unacceptable...

What if it was the other way around and stores just had gold left when most people wanted space grey?

Waiting in line doesn't guarantee or entitle you to your first choice.

I understand the snarkyness, but generally companies to try to make customers happy. It is not as if Apple is providing for free.

I'd say people are pretty happy with it, as it's selling out. So many people whine now, but will buy the phone eventually. So the complaining is just noise. If you are pissed at apple, then don't by any iphones.

All gold isn't right either smarty pants. They should have all 3 on launch day,PERIOD..How hard is that to understand?

No need to go at opening.Like last year, after about 2 weeks or so,go the Apple site and check inventory at your nearest store and order your phone & make an appointment for pick up.

Um, yeah, I waited for 14 hours (from 6PM last night), was first in line, and was at the Apple Store, and I didn't get the one I wanted. Out of the 200-300 iPhones they had, they only had ONE gold model. 64GB for AT&T. Of course what I wanted was 32GB Gold for Verizon. I wasn't going to wait there all that time and not get anything, so I decided to get the Space Grey (I was coming from the Silver 5, so I wanted a change-up). I will be going to the store EVERY single day until October 20th (The day my return period is over) at opening so I can try to get my gold one.

They did have all three, but gold and silver were in fewer quantities and sold out.

Why wait online for hours and risk not getting what you want when you can order online and have a way better chance?

Incorrect. My AT&T store, along with every other AT&T store, never had silver or gold. Hence never "selling out", that is why it's unacceptable... I didn't order online because I wanted my phone today. The phone launched today it should be available today. Understand?

Apparently we are wrong and this is acceptable...

You are wrong.Being 1st in line does ENTITLE him to choice. They should have every phone offered, period. And no,the complaining isn't just noise.

Lol apparently. People don't understand simple logic. If the phone released today it needed to be available today. I can understand limited quantities, but ZERO quantities of 2 of the 3 colors is totally unacceptable....

The Gold phone blues

I usually don't get caught up in the gotta be first hype, but I decided to go to my local Apple store at 8:30 this morning. There must have been 150 people in line and NO, I repeat no availability of anything other than space gray. I am sure Apple knew gold would be the hot color so they really did drop the ball on this one. Went back home and put the order in online, quite the waste of time this morning, but hey, no sweat.

why are people getting mad at carrier stores? if you want gold, go to the source, aapl stores. they have all of them there. i dont get why people complain of limited or no stock at non apple stores. this should already be a given.

I wonder if you'd order online using the "Apple Store" app and chose the 'pickup at your Apple Store' option, if the one you'd get from the store would be one the store just normally would have gotten. Instead of extra being sent to the store.

Would this be a better option than just cold-trying in back at the store every so often, do you think?

Don't say a phone is coming out on specific date and not have all the models out for it.

Why didn't Apple just delay it two weeks ? Let the 5C have its moment.

So your little AT&T store didn't have the one you wanted. Do you really think every single AT&T store is going to have every color and capacity on launch for a very limited item?

If you are so set on a certain color/size, then go to an Apple store for launch. It's well known that Apple stores get more volume and variety than the carrier stores.

Not mad at the carrier stores. Mad at apple. Not even mad really, more disappointed then anything. Apple needed to allot the proper number of phones out to every store, and if they wasn't ready for launch, they should have pushed the date back, better yet if they didn't think they could have fulfilled stores on launch, they should have never announced a date of release....

the one thing I will say the apple greeter scripts were irritating....."what color are you getting" "what color do you think im getting? you only have one color"

My little AT&T store? It's not just my store? It's all AT&T stores guy! Look around you, all AT&T got was space grey.. Even if its limited they should still have LIMITED stock, not ZERO stock. How are you not comprehending this?

I waited since 3am at my local AT&T store for them to tell me at 7:30am that they only had space grey 5S's. My brother proceeded with a space grey but I did not. Drove to my local Apple store for them to tell me the same thing. There was a minimal line.

It makes absolutely no sense why they would release the 5S without supply to back it up. I knew we were in for trouble when they didn't have pre orders for 5S. Obvious that they couldn't make them fast enough.

I totally understand the tactic of limiting supply to create the illusion of demand but Apple has gone to far on this one. I am a very disappointed loyal apple customer.

When you figure how many phone Apple had to have to even "tickle" all the supply lines in the USA, I think they did pretty good.

If you really want gold that bad then it should be worth waiting for.

You should have gone to an Apple store or ordered online. All previous launches have shown that carrier stores have less stock/options than Apple stores. There were claims of gold shortages in the last few days from employees. 3/4 iphones shipping are space grey.

It was quite obvious gold and silver is going to be hard to get. So, it makes sense to go to a store that would have more in general to improve your chances of getting the gold one. You had a better chance of getting gold at an apple store or ordering online. All the writing was on the wall about gold being hard to find. You honestly can't be this surprised.

Carrier stores and 3rd party retailers have had a limited stock on just about every iPhone launch that I can remember outside of the first (there have been plenty of times where places like Best Buy doesn't get a single phone in the door on launch day).

Their #1 priority is going to be to stock their stores and fulfill their online orders. Carriers get second priority and the 3rd party guys get the scraps. Same story every year.

"We currently estimate that your order for Apple iPhone 5s (32GB Gold) will ship within 21 - 28 business days. All orders are processed on a first-come, first-served basis."

I don't think Apple expected gold and silver to be that popular to be honest. I always see more black phones than white ones.
