You know what? Why not just never let anyone go in and out and build a giant wall around our coun…oh wait.

I made the sarcastic comment about how unsafe laptops are because they're really easy to fit something like plastic explosives inside and therefore should be banned. I think it was on here, but maybe on another site, a few months before the first ban went into affect. I then sarcastically commented about how the NSA could hire me for consulting, as I have decent rates. I'm not laughing now, but I still expect to get paid.

NSA: Please ignore my first comment about locking us inside and shutting out the rest of the world. Also please don't ban my Nintendo Switch. K? Thx.

Do you realize what you have done ?
Did you understand that, after reading that message you posted on public forum and taking it for a serious evidence of a terrorist plot, the current DHS administration would take it seriously and have the smart idea to ban all electronics on board ?
So irresponsible of you !

I'm curious as to the logistical implications of this. Right now, going through airport security is a two-step process. I show my passport and boarding pass to Agent 1 at the entrance to the security area. I then proceed to the screening area, where my bags are x-rayed by Agent 2. Right now, Agent 1 doesn't care what's in my bags, and Agent 2 doesn't care where I'm going.

If this new rule were implemented, security would now need to coordinate who's got what and who's going where. If I'm flying Heathrow to JFK, I can't have a laptop. If I'm flying to Orly, I can. This would require the screeners to perform an extra boarding pass check, further slowing down an already tortuous process.

Danger comes from domestic terrorism as its been proved before many times so ban laptops on domestic flights as well. Hell let's ban flying altogether.

This article confuses one of the issues. DHS isn't concerned with preventing batteries from exploding. They have no way of doing that. What's lacking are the means to extinguish battery fires in cargo holds.

I've always had security check my boarding pass as I put my stuff on the conveyor belt.

What's the difference of a laptop in a cabin to be with all the luggage underneath in a plane? what another joke from the US.

Exact triggering vs remote triggering. Contrary to popular film, the cargo bay of a plane kills any signal. It's the same reason liquids and whatnot were banned from carry ons years ago.

Simple solution: stop flying. If revenues take a big enough hit, rules will change (back). How bad do things have to get for consumers before we have our "enough is enough" moment? Consumers seem to work in only 1 mentality: "just pay up." We seem to forget how much power we have if we collectively opt to NOT spend. When revenues stop flowing, corrections happen fast. But, let me guess, we'll just check our laptops and maybe gripe about it... but still pay for the tickets, so that no business entity feels any pain with this decision.

Ultimately, they'd ban us from flying as long as we would pay for the tickets anyway.

Fascinating how certain things are not appearing in this thread. I wonder why that is lol.

I assumed that it was an ironic reference to the sort of psychotic mindset in parts of the US - to my Transatlantic Cousins - a gentle reminder: More people been killed annually - by far - by the easy availably of guns in your society - those alienated lunatics who can't handle rejection, or some other issue - than have ever been killed by terrorists.

Not on airplanes!!!! Many more people have been killed by Muslims/terrorists on an airplane than by guns ON AN AIRPLANE...we are talking about laptops being banned on airplanes, and not just in society (as you say), right?

Obviously terrorists can't afford a business / first class ticket, right?

This has nothing to do with Terrorists, this has everything to do with high profit legitimate customers being forced onto US owned aircraft.

By taking out the hubs for competing airlines, these passengers will instead use a flight where they CAN use their devices, and these hubs are where US owned aircraft have better access.

For example the USA has about 38 "Hubs" where various companies fly through , so instead of a direct flight you have a stop over in one of these hubs. It concentrates passengers and allows a greater efficiency and profit. If you ruin a hub (such as not allowing portable devices in the cabin) high profit customers will use an alternative airline.

This is all about removing competition for high paying customers in the from/to USA flight sector.

Well, this'll stop those terrorists—unless some mad genius figures out a way for a bomb to go off at a specific time without anyone touching it. I guess they might even name such advanced technology a "timer"!
