We can't get a Retina display at any type of reasonable price for any size, with the possible exception of the 24" iMac. This thing is going to have a ridiculous price.

As long as it it gray/silver with a black basel, I buy it. (hate the current iMacs).

These time frame guesstimates are infuriatingly slow, Apple must have one or maybe .5 persons working in this department.

I'll take that over thousands working on a ridiculously over-engineered product that'll be nearly impossible to build. And/or feature a screen that can only be cleaned with an Apple cloth of hand-weaved unicorn wool...

Still, infuriatingly slow puts it mildly. Those of us with good-but-aging Intel iMacs need to upgrade, and "Sometime 2025" is the wrong answer.

My favourite size of Apple screen of all time is the 16:10 30" Apple Cinema HD Display, at 2560x1600.

All we need now is a Retina version of that at 5120x3200 (16:10 201 ppi).

Apple is experimenting with larger iMacs, including a model with around a 32-inch display, according to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman. In his latest Power On newsletter, Gurman said these iMacs are still in early development, so he does not expect them to launch until late 2024 or at some point in 2025 at the earliest.

Gurman previously said Apple was developing a larger iMac with over a 30-inch display, and he has now specified that the display will be around the same 32-inch size as Apple's high-end Pro Display XDR monitor. Released in December 2019, the Pro Display XDR has 6K resolution for Retina-quality content and starts at $4,999.

Apple discontinued the Intel-based 27-inch iMac and iMac Pro over the past few years, and has yet to launch a larger-screen iMac with an Apple silicon chip as a replacement. Instead, Apple offers the 27-inch Studio Display, which can be connected to the Mac Studio or another Mac with Apple silicon, but this is not an all-in-one solution like the iMac.

For now, the 24-inch iMac is the only all-in-one computer sold by Apple. The current model with the M1 chip was released in April 2021, and Gurman expects an updated model with a faster M3 chip to launch by early next year. All current Apple silicon chips are manufactured based on TSMC's 5nm process, while the M3 chip is expected to move to a 3nm process for significant performance and power efficiency improvements.

I’d like just the display!

I agree. The 27" was a good workable size, but I feel like 32" would really overwhelm my desk. I guess I'd have to just get a bigger desk ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
The 27" iMacs had huge bezels. My 27" iMac is 25 & 5/8ths inches wide. My 28.2" 3:2 Huawei screen is only 24" wide. A 30" screen with a small bezel wouldn't be much bigger than a 27" iMac.

I would like to see a 32” Apple display that isn’t stratospherically priced. Doesn’t need to be 6K either. Perhaps something like this:

32-inch 16:9
5.6K at 5600x3150 (201 ppi) or else 5.7K at 5760x3240 (207 ppi)
The 21.5" iMac was 4096x2304. The 27" iMac was 5120x2880, an increase of 25% on each axis, an overall increase in resolution of 56.25%.

The 24" iMac is 4480x2520. An increase of 25% per axis would be exactly 5600x3150. Hmmm...

As mentioned above, at 32" that would be 201 ppi. However, if Apple were to keep the 218 ppi spec, that would correspond to a 29.5" screen.
30"-31.5" makes more sense to me for an iMac. In fact, back in the day, I had been predicting a 24" iMac and 29.5" ("30-inch class") iMac, but they ended up only releasing the 24".

I wouldn't mind a 32-Inch iMac in Midnight 💫

I really hope they completely redesign the iMac. We have a whole lab full of M1 iMac, the base is way too narrow and one can knock it down very easily.

Back on topic, late 2024 and 2025? That's about time for rest of Intel and M1 users to upgrade. Although I love the iMac form factor, it missed my own timeline already.

I wondered the the same until my current 32" LG display arrived. When nearly bezel-less, a 32" display is only slightly larger than the now discontinued 27" iMacs.
This is correct, and speaking for myself, late 2024 / early 2025 is about the time I'll be looking to move on from my 2015 27" iMac. The stars may be aligning.

Still don't understand why Apple can't just cobble together at 27 inch iMac and sell it NOW, to hold us over until a larger version a year or two from now.
Because, development costs and building entire new factories for building a form factor that will live only one short year? I said it before and I'll say it again: This new screen size will be with us for the next decade. 27-inch seemed quite large in 2009, by now it's a minimum requirement. People complain about the 24-inch iMac as if it's unbearably small. A large screen today and tomorrow is at least 32 inches.

“Larger iMac is coming, larger iMac is coming coming, larger iMac is coming…”

At this point it’s practically clickbait. And we went from 27 to 30 to now 32 inches.

Next up will be, “Larger iMac is coming and purportedly 36-40 inches.”

Watch for it.

Want a 42 inch iMac

Coming in 2026: 70in. iMac Ultra.

If you have to ask the price you can’t afford it.

Se how big this iMac will grow 😉

No, this can't be. We were told, in no uncertain terms, by posters on MR, that those who were hoping for a large AS iMac simply did not understand that Apple considers a Mini/Studio + ASD to be the final replacement for that going forward. Surely those supremely confident posters could not have been wrong?

If they start below $2000, I might buy one, but with the larger display, I just can't see it being cheaper than that. 🥲

For such a giant company Apple does leave big gaps in its product range for years - the ongoing lack of an M-series 27 inch iMac or larger is just odd.
