I will never go for a bigger phone

A.) the 4 was fine
B.) the 4s was fine
C.) the 5 and 5s are fine
D.) if it goes above the screen sizes there I am out
E.) will not deal with the bigger screen just for a better phone.

I was fine with my 5 but I went to try to change the back because I had a large dent in it so I am at the 4 and I am fine with it because it was also the first iPhone I got just not the one had then I traded it.

P.S. the 5 keeps rebooting while I was using it so I stopped and found a 4 and bout it to use.

if the battery life is still crap i'm going to the dark side. Sorry apple, love your stuff but I don't want to be tied to an outlet or have a huge battery case..

Then you should certainly not go for a Samsung Galaxy phone. No comparison to my iPhone :D

I still think 4.7 inch is the best size. Don't think 5 inch+ will happen... too big for 1 hand use.

How wide will the 4.7 model be? Even a half-inch wider will make one-hand use difficult and dangerous (too easy to drop phone).

A little longer is ok, maybe even good, like in the 5s, but wider is bad! If we want bigger there's the iPad Mini!

iPad mini is almost 4x times bigger than iPhone 5s, in terms of surface area. It's also not pocketable. It's not a valid alternative to an iPhone.

People want larger screen phones that are still pocketable.

I love how the cell phone market is going full circle here with regards to size. They started out huge (Motorola Dynatac), then progressively got smaller. I went from the Dynatac to a bag phone (for better battery life) to an early flip phone (another Moto if I'm not mistaken).

I loved my old Sanyo super thin and small cell phone - certainly much more than the...I forget what I had to replace that phone with prior to getting the first iPhone (shows you how brand agnostic I used to be).

Now the market is on a trend of going bigger. But the way I see it, the use-case for the large screened phones has little to do with phone communication and is more about being some game-playing or video watching device than it is about using it for general communication.

I don't want my phone to be bigger - I'd prefer it to be smaller, so that it is just for the instant communications I need it for, while using my iPad or MBA for work. I know I'm just a single user, but I don't see Apple playing the size game in the same way that Samsung and others are.

Could the iPhone get a bit bigger and still be one-handed usable - of course. But the phablets that are out there are just ridiculous for use as a phone, in my opinion.

What a shame. Apple continues a path that often ignores some of the basics of what people want or need in such a device.

Whether Apple goes with a larger iPhone or not, I most likely wont be purchasing another iPhone or perhaps tablet for that matter.

Apple makes brilliant products but some of the form over function facet is to the point of being deal breakers. The first one that comes to mind is the poor use of screens/menus and similar. The text is horribly small with no proper way to get around the design "style." The accessibility tools is a joke where this is concerned. Months ago, I was at an Apple store and one of the topics of conversation with an employee was how in 2 days, 7 iPad Minis were returned because the purchasers had troubles reading some of the text/menus.

The present iPhone 5s has a decent screen, looks great and functions fairly well. It too suffers from form over function. A larger iPhone would not be needed if Apple took on a more flexible approach to display. - Allow the owner of the device to have choices on presentation that make sense. As example - there is a 4x5 layout on the main screen of icons with text. Users should be able to opt for say 3x4 layout with larger text. Items like the menus within music are small and light coloured. Again, provide for larger text that is bold and perhaps less options at a time on the bottom. This is not rocket science.

At this day and age, if Apple can't figure out how to balance form and function then they deserve to have people jump ship. If an iPad regular or Mini can't exploit the screen real estate better, than Apple sooner or later will lose market when a similar device comes up that is easier to see and use.

Until then, we do the best we can and again - both iPhone and iPad are impressive devices with major flaws.

My iPhone 5 on top of my SGS3, the SGS4 is slightly smaller than the S3, IMHO the iPhone just doesn't use the space available for a larger screen.

I am looking forward to a large screen phone done "the Apple way" - high-quality materials, beautiful fit and finish, great OS and ecosystem to go along with hardware. This would be a large screen smartphone done right, differentiated from nasty Samsung Galaxy line.

This ^^ is absolutely spot on IMO.

Could they increase the screen-size but keep phone dimensions the same?

The 4.7 Moto X is almost exactly a quarter-inch wider than the iPhone 5s. I would expect Apple to do something similar by eliminating much of the bezel on the sides. Which means a 4.7" iPhone will be bigger but not by as much as the display size difference suggests.

However the physical form factor is only one part of it. A bigger display with smaller bezel still makes one-hand use more difficult, and having less bezel sometimes makes it even more so because your palm pad may tough the screen.

Having used a wide range of smartphones from 2.8" to 6.4", my favorite form factor is the latest iPod Touch and the favorite screen size is 3.8" which is still found in some Windows Phones. Even Apple's 4" screen is slightly too big for comfortable one hand usage even though I have a fairly large hand.

A 4.7" iPhone will be nice to look at and won't be that much bigger than the current iPhones but it'll certainly be a sizeable downgrade in one-hand usage. It's unlikely Apple will produce another 3.5" or 4" flagship spec device and I'll be unhappy but it seems there isn't that many small display smartphone enthusiasts out there :(

Not my intent. Choice is good. An iPhone Mini would be a great addition to the iPhone line up.

maybe they could make a phone the size of a suppository, in case some people want to use it that way. there's got to be a way to please everyone.

I currently am an android user but also have an ipad, which I love. I am looking very hard at the next iPhone. If the screen is bigger and has the better life of my iPad Air I will for sure be purchasing my first iPhone. All the apps are available for both operating systems plus google services work on both. The only thing holding me back is the screen size.

Google "smartphone of the year 2013", it won almost every review sites top award... Your lack of insight into anything non Apple is staggering. By the way Ford sell more than Ferrari.. so sales figures ain't really a metric to measure things by are they...
I own plenty of non Apple products. If the HTC one did not have a all metal design it would not have won a single award. The S4 technically superior in every way. It's what under the hood that counts!!!!

Wow. I can't believe how negative some people can be to the idea of having options. One size does not fit all, and for some, a larger phone is not the answer. Its a fad. I've always been an Apple fanatic, but some people really are just sheep!

I'm with you, i just can't believe how negative others can be to call each other derogatory terms such as "sheep", or miss other people's sarcasm.

You'll keep it for 2 years ...

Maybe you're right. Who knows.... We will find out in a couple of years. However, I can't think of anything I do that would, in my opinion, be better on a larger screen. But, as other have also said, I can put my phone in my pocket now and forget it is even there. I like the size the way it is now. I'd even consider going back to the 3.5" size if it had the rest of the same features as the larger phones.

I believe the display area may be 4.7 inches, but the actual dimensions of the device will be quite similar to the 5S. This will please those who like the current physical size and those wanting a larger display. I still think the larger model, if there is one, may not be called an iPhone, but an iPad nano with "full" cellular. The nano will have the aspect ratio of an iPad not the iPhone.

Have you ever compared a 5.5" phone to a mini? There is no comparison. Going from a iPad air to a mini is a huge difference. 2.5" smaller than a mini is no way like an ipad.

I'm willing to bet that when the iPhone 6 comes out...it will be the best selling smartphone of all time. Records will break. :apple:
