Not really bothered about specs, I had both, the SGS3 didn't feel or look nearly a 3rd larger. You go by specs if you want, real world feel is different.:)

You do realize that vendor specs represent the real world, rather than how you "feel" about it? 3GS3 may may not feel like its a 3rd larger, but it is.

Some people thought a Motorola razr was perfect in size

It's a matter of opinion. Some people want larger phones, some people don't. I just don't like that, chances are, we'll be basically forced to upgrade to phones that we may deem too large even though we may not want them.

I love my iPhone but have no interest at all in a 5.5" Screen whatsoever.

I think it's safe to say that Apple will either make the phone larger, or keep it the same size and continue to loose those that want a bigger device to Android.

I know I'd be back in a heartbeat. I am trying my hand with a lot of different platforms, and the platform agnostic apps that I use daily are actually nicer on Windows 8.1 and Android, but I like the consistency of iOS.

I had the option of going with a Dell Precision M8700 or M3800 or Retina Macbook Pro and I stuck with the Macbook Pro. If Apple makes a larger iPhone 6 with more production heavy features then I may just return to iOS after 4 years or so with Android.

The tablet side is going to be a stretch. Windows 8.1 on a tablet has spoiled me, and the only thing that would replace it is an iPad running a touch optimized version of Mac OSX that is capable of running Adobe apps on the fly.

I still think 4.7 inch is the best size. Don't think 5 inch+ will happen... too big for 1 hand use.

Only if you happen to have small hands.

A [significantly] larger screen is the only Android feature that I would like to see on the iPhone.

The battery could be user-replaceable, and the memory could be micro-SD. My Android phone has both of these features; and its screen is 4.7 inches diagonally.

Well duh.

Many idiot apple users will comment you don't need a larger screen but that's just a knee jerk reaction.

Apple sell two sizes of everything but iPhones, it's not a matter of if they will it's just when. I suspect it'll come finally this year.

It will cause huge android fans to default. for sure but also not.

If the memory / storage and the battery were user-replaceable, I might consider the larger of the two examples / guesses.

I prefer the size of the 4 and 4s. Slim, small, I don't even realize its in my pocket. Thats the perfect phone for me.

I don't want to carry around a wide screen TV in my pants all day.

It would be nice to see what's on-screen without being nearsighted or having to carry a magnifier, especially if movies / videos are watched on the iPhone.

And if an Otterbox is on the iPhone, it would NOT fit easily in my shirt pocket.

I hope these people realize that they may gain some - and lose some. If they increase the size of the iPhone (i.e. making it even BIGGER than it already is!) I will move some place else.

And given that iCloud email doesn't work for me anyway and I was forced to set up an Exchange server to gain reliability I am totally flexible now.

Not that Android/Google sounds appealing but there must be some device that works and isn't the size of a slice of pizza. Or I may have to go and put away one or two iPhone 5. Gee, how I still miss my Blackberry.

Actually no. Where would you go given the iPhone 6 has bigger display?

Mid and higher end Android phones already come with 4.5" as a bare minimum. So sadly you won't have alternative if you want a usable phone AND less-than-a-slice-of-pizza phone.

The only phones come with smaller display are the cheap ones. Might as well use feature phone instead. You wouldn't stand it.

4.7 Would be Perfect , I made the switch from iPhone 5 to Nexus yes few compromises ( nothing I can't live without), decided to give 5S a shot yes I missed the build quality and the sharp apps/camera, but at the end of the day the screen felt too small and Retina is not a strong selling point to me anymore so the 5S went on Sale on macrumors marketplace, 4.7 and I won't hesitate to switch back :D

I switched to nexus too. Love the screen size and the freedom to customize, but miss the iOS ecosystem which I shared with wife (mostly photostream).

Would switch back in a heartbeat if the bigger size is available.

If people don't like the bigger size then buy the smaller one. Its thats simple.

try a HTC ONE , before you declare android a POS, a 50 dollar piece of junk isn't really gonna convince anyone..

Why woud it be any different? Thi Alcatel is supposed to be pretty much Stock Android according to the reviews. IIRC Alcatel tweaked the icons but that's about it (or so they say). It's also not my 1st rodeo wit Android. I dealt with a Droid X (not a low end phone) for almost 2 years.

The hardware seems to be fine, I'm not complaining about speed either. It's fundamental OS decisions that are poor and seriously lacking. Yes, customized Android may be better but you always hear for every problem with Samsung, HTC, Motorola, etc it's "Try a Nexus with Stock Android." Stock Android sucks too.

Going above "retina" is only a negative really, you don't see a difference and your battery and processors are being unnecessarily taxed.

Yeah until Apple makes one and all of so sudden it's "OMFG it's the best display I've ever seen it burns my eyeballs!!"

Bigger display = bigger battery so I wouldn't worry about battery life.

Big is not better

I have an iPhone 5s. I do NOT want a bigger phone. This one fits nicely in my hand and, especially important, it fits nicely in my pocket. If big phones are so desirable, why is it that they only represent twenty percent of the iPhone market? The fact that Samsung sells some monster sized phones is no reason why Apple should follow suit. Some people say that Apple HAS TO sell a larger phone in order to compete. Well, judging by their massive profits, Apple does not have to do anything that they are not already doing.

You know what's funny here?
The same people that is talking smack and blah blah about hating larger display that is beyond 4 inch ala 4.7 or 5.5 will be the first to line up to buy this shizz. I mean c'mon lets be real now. If you like Apple iPhone and they throw a 4.7 as being the standard and everyone buys it, you're most likely to jump on the bad wagon like you have for every other iPhone. So, why be so mela dramatic about this?

Apple's product is being used in many school, business, including the fact that most of the tasks are done by handheld devices. Therefore, it makes sense to move on to the larger display market. I am sure as the article title suggested, "Larger iPhone 6 May Cause Massive Spike in Upgrades, Lure Android Users" is very much likely to happen, as Apple will win over many Android users due to size. I myself will be doing the opposite, if however, Apple does not give me a choice for larger display. My suggestion is that, if you like smaller display, you can have fun sticking to iPhone 3/4/5/S and get on with your life.

It is absolutely clear that there is a large segment of smartphone customers who desire a larger screen phone.

I don't think its as clear as many people want to think it is. Many of us have been forced into larger screens. We didn't choose them! If you want a top tier Android phone from any of the major carriers your only choice is usually a large screen phone!

So the "popularity" of large screen phones is somewhat a skewed number.

Will an iPhone user switch the a craptastic phone just to have a smaller screen?

Exactly.

In the same vein, Android enthusiasts don't want a "craptastic phone" either. So they buy the larger screen versions because they are the only way to get the higher end phones.

The reason I am drawn to the Nexus 5 is because it is a bigger screen not just a taller phone. I want a phone that I can actually read and hold without dropping.

I have a nexus 5 and find this Funny. I'm a big guy (6'2" 220lbs and hands like a pond skimmer) and I find the iPhone much easier to keep ahold of while using it one handed. Even with my giant hands, I have to give up my secure grip on the phone in order to reach the top of the screen with my thumb. (Where Android insists on putting all their controls for things like gmail).

I'd rather carry a tablet and a phone.

I'd use the tablet whenever possible and the phone when it wasn't possible.

For the times when I can't carry a tablet, I want the phone to be as small as possible.
.

I agree.

I've always had an Android phone. Never had an iPhone of my own. But am strongly considering swapping my Nexus 5 for an iPhone for these reasons.

-smaller screen!
-build quality
-camera

Just as there are a lot of prospective iPhone users who are "forced" into Android, because Apple doesn't offer a large screen iPhone. If you seriously think there is no sizeable smartphone market segment that actively desires large screens - you are living in some sort of jobsian distorted reality.

I didn't say anything at all about no market segment desiring larger screens. Nothing. Not a single word .

Strange way to turn something I didn't say into some sort of insult!

Sounds like some sort of distorted reality.

Maybe you think the meaning of the words on a larger screen would have a clearer meaning to you?

Ever since switching from iphone 4 to the s3 then note 2 and now note 3, if the iphone 6 really does have a 5.7 screen I'm back to apple. That 4" screen is not cutting it. Even my friends who keep saying my phone is too big will constantly tell me how they wish they had a bigger screen when watching stuff. I just hope they offer the iphone 6 in 128gb flavors.

(looks at largest iPhone)

Ping Pong anyone???

I think the iPhone 5S is incredibly awesome, blows anything else out of the water.
I guess its whats on the outside that people look at and not the brains (kinda like sexy celebrities).
A bigger screen does have value and some do need it, but I think most people are just being lured by Samsmug.

It's a iPhablet not an iPhone

I love the form factor of my iPhone 4, even the 5c/5S are on the big side.

If these rumors are true, it's just getting silly. Buy an iPad mini if you want a bigger screen.

if the battery life is still crap i'm going to the dark side. Sorry apple, love your stuff but I don't want to be tied to an outlet or have a huge battery case..

100% agree, however with that being said I have been getting the same battery results with the two android phones I've had since switching from the iphone 5 (galaxy s4 and currently nexus 5)

----------

The iPhone 6 will be slightly taller and defiantly wider. Around the size of the nexus 5 but thinner.

I would be on board with this!

I switched from iphone 5 to nexus 5. Am currently okay with the nexus 5 but would switch back 100% with a larger screen. :D:D

Sorry to take a break from the discussion, but I read...

[*] Hold the top row of letters for #'s is awesome

...and if I'm understanding what you want correctly, you can do this on the iPhone NOW. (Have done for a couple of years, at least.) When at a keyboard, press on the number button. The number keyboard comes up. Without lifting your finger, drag up to the number you want to select.

Same thing with capital letters.

If this isn't what you meant...carry on.
