Nobody wants a bigger iPhone. iPhone 5s is already the perfect size. These rumors are stupid.

I would bet my first born son that these are not rumors. Do you honestly think Apple isn't testing larger screen prototypes?

Used an S4 last night. Just terrible. Could not operate it with one hand. Couldn't reach notification center. Nearly dropped it a few times just trying to navigate one handed. I hope Apple keeps it down towards 4.3-4.7. I haven't had a chance to try a Moto X yet.

Apple told developers a while back to start familiarizing themselves with Auto Layout, and not to take screen sizes for granted. iOS 7's interface (i.e. gesture-based swipes for back, rather than a hard to reach button) seems to suggest a move even further away from simple screen size ranges.

So get ready folks, Apple is clearly trying to make iOS scalable. (Watches, TVs, larger iPhones, and more than likely a unification with Mac screen sizes as it moves to OSX).

...as long as they keep offering a smaller screen too... not ALL of us want the bigger screen.

I sooooo agree with you. I for one dont want a bigger phone....I have a tablet for that, my iPad Air.....I want something that I can keep in my jeans pocket which doesnt make me look like a plonker with a mass protruding off my pocket.

I also want to be able to hold and play with my phone with one hand!

What about:

3.5" iPhone Mini to replace the 4s
4.2" iPhone Air to replace the 5s
4.9" iPhone Pro

Speak for yourself. I've owned every iPhone sans the 5s, and the screen size is the weak link.

I completely agree!

Apple really missed the boat with the larger display sizes. They don't need to make phablets, but they should at least make a 5" screen to be competitive.

Not only only that, but they have sacrificed battery life for thickness and weight.
I would give up a mm or two if I could get another hour or two of battery life.

4.7 would be the perfect size. i also have an nexus 4 and it doesnt feel much bigger than my iPhone 5.

a bigger screen would hopefully also require some OS tweaks. dont just throw another row of freakin app icons on there

some people barely use their phones with one hand anyway ;) i would get cramps in my thumb after 5 minutes but thats the good thing about having CHOICES so apple gimme the option :)

It all depends what they do with the bezel. I have really big hands (I can hold my Mini with one hand comfortably), but even at 4'' of the iPhone 5 it's really hard to get to all corners with the thumb.

If they reduce the bezel I think the sweetspot of one handed use and bigger Display is somewhere around 4.3"

However my personal view is, it's a phone, it should be small and light. For everything else there are different product categories!

That's fine. I am sure Apple will keep the 4" form factor, but they need to release a larger sized screen. The software and phone and clearly better than others, but most people won't even consider the iPhone because of the small screen size.

Not only do they need to keep the "smaller" screen as well but also make them have the same internals. Then everyone is happy. I don't want the big iPhone being the flagship and the smaller one being the 5C...

If its like the iPad Air and iPad Mini i'll be happy and it makes sense for them have same internals from Apples point of view - providing its possible to fit the same power into the smaller handset.

I mean one thing thats very rarely touched upon is how powerful the iPhone 5S is considering its small footprint. Anyone can make something bigger and more powerful with little engineering experience, the challenge has always been to eek as much power out of something and make it smaller - Samsung hasn't been able to do that, it was easier for them to go bigger. I doubt they are capable of making something the size of the iPhone 5S and have it equally as powerful.

Anyway thats on another tangent. If you have to go with the customer demand for some odd reason of wanting a big screen then please do the iPhone Air and the iPhone Mini with the same internals too so the choice literally is - what size bulge do you want in your pocket :D

Nobody? Don't be stupid plenty of people want (and would buy) a bigger iPhone. I know I would for one. Even if they do make a bigger iPhone it will be an addition to and not a replacement for the current iPhones. So you can still have your 4" iPhone if you want and others can have a 4.9" iPhone if they want.

It makes sound business sense to diversify their iPhone range given how important it is to Apple. Half their revenues and profits come from the iPhone. They can't afford to drive away potential customers into the arms of their competitors. The future of Apple depends almost entirely on the future of the iPhone.

The only people who don't want Apple to make a bigger iPhone are Samsung and people with cainotophobia.

5" IS a phablet though, its bloody huge!

If they can make it thin enough to keep one handed usage mostly intact, then I am all for making it as large as that principle stays intact.

I have big hands anyway, so I wouldn't mind having an option of a larger phone.

No phablets though.

* Apple needs to release this for competitive purposes. Several members of my family will not upgrade their iPhone 4 or 4s because they want a bigger screen. The taller iPhone 5/5s did not meet that demand for many people.

my SG4 screen it just a tiny bit too big. You cannot reach the top edge of the screen comfortably without using two hands.

A Bigger Screen Would Be Great!

A Bigger Screen Would Be Great... I think. I don't actually know if I'd want a bigger screen. I have a 4s right now and I'm not even sure if I want a 5s due to the extra huff that I'd have to carry around.

I say that a bigger screen would be great because I was at a T-Mobile store and they had that big 4.9" Samsung phone near the iPhone 5s and the 5s definitely looked diminished next to it. I'm just speaking from an emotional point of view. The bigger phones do look nice. I wouldn't make my purchases so thoughtlessly, but I'm sure plenty of other people would.

To your average person, big = better and quite frankly it's getting hard to distinguish one product from another without taking extended test drives or being some big phone geek. If you can't really tell the difference, then size will tilt the decision.

There's a side of me that wants that bigger phone. There's another side that thinks it's ridiculous how big phones are getting. And there's still another side to me that is considering going back to a "dumb" phone because I'm getting really annoyed by the trend of poor call performance with a lot of smartphones.

Screen size is fine

There will always be times when a larger screen will be useful.

But it's not a big deal. The iPhone 5 is a pretty good size.

The single biggest problem with it is that the keyboard hasn't moved on in years. Android keyboards like SwiftKey have moved way past it.

It's better that you use two hands anyway. It's kind of a bit strenuous to one hand your phone too much. Your thumbs and wrists will eventually feel it if you one hand your phone too much.

I'm in the same boat. I want a bigger iPhone, not a taller one.

Old people are loving the gargantuan Samsung. It allows them to press the humungous buttons easily and it's so big they can't lose it even without their glasses. Sure, they don't use ANY of the features other than making calls and texting, but it's a huge ass phone and they love it.

No.... the bigger screen is NOT needed.

I agree that a bigger device isn't needed but a bigger screen would go down well. I know there physical and commercial limitations but the 5S is about 5.4 inches across the diagonal. Now if most of that was screen.........?

...as long as they keep offering a smaller screen too... not ALL of us want the bigger screen.

Count me in with that. I'm not sure which I would like better, but I have definitely noticed the benefit of one-handed operation. I couldn't reach areas of my friend's Samsung phone with just one hand, so Apple isn't wrong about this. But I'm also guessing some people will prefer a larger screen.

I just hope Apple doesn't treat the 4-inch phone like a redheaded stepchild and gives it the same processing power and features of the larger one. Basically don't 5C it.

When is choice ever a bad thing? Hopefully they'll still offer a 4" model along with the larger one.

Choice is different than "options"

Choice is good: iPhone or Android.

Too many options is bad: Sony, Windows, and American Car companies in the 90s are all examples of how too many options disguised as choices all served to spread thin a company's resources and confuse consumers.
