Used an S4 last night. Just terrible. Could not operate it with one hand. Couldn't reach notification center. Nearly dropped it a few times just trying to navigate one handed. I hope Apple keeps it down towards 4.3-4.7. I haven't had a chance to try a Moto X yet.

I think the Moto X is the perfect size for a large screened phone... now if we could just put iOS 7 on that phone ;)

currently owning (one of the few) iphone 5c's i'm fascinated how tiny and cute the iphone 4 series is.. :)
no need for an ipad-phone!
at least let us choose the screensize!
iPhone XL & iPhone

true.

Besides, how many of you people actually owned a bigger screen phone so you can say "i dont want it because i dont like it". Truthfully i havent met not one person that would say "oh man this screen is too big its just HORRIBLE!". Everybody loves bigger screens wether its a TV or a phone and thats a fact;)

Well, there is a first for everything. Meet me. I find the screen on my iPhone 5 too big. I struggle at times to reach things in the corners with my thumb.

And I don't like large laptops either. Still clinging to my old 14" hi res Thinkpad for that reason. Still haven't found anything that size with the same real estate.

Same with my TV. Didn't want one of those gigantic screens in my house. I don't consider it a status symbol -and the resolution is the same anyway. And for desktops I prefer the dual screens (24") route. To me it's all about the ease of use, screen real estate and workflows. Not about the size.

I've always thought that around 4.7" was ideal, especially if they can narrow the bezels around the device. Just make it wider instead of taller. I don't see the point of 16:9 on a phone aside from video, but worse case scenario video is the same size it is now with bars top and bottom.

S4 Mini is 4.3" and nicely small. It could have higher resolution, however.

The Z10 is 4.2" with a more squarish aspect ratio (more area than a 16:9 4.2") is bigger (kind of thick bezel), and feels a bit too large. At least the resolution is better.

Same sentiment over and over and over again.

Go back to when all iPhones had 3.5" screens and THAT was "the ONE and ONLY perfect size", "nobody wants a screen any bigger than 3.5", "it's stupid to want any other size", "how could we fit that abomination in our pockets?" (when the actual physical dimensions sometimes differed by only a few millimeters), etc. Even right into the launch of an iPhone with a bigger screen, that sentiment continued to dominate.

Then, Apple went with a bigger screen and bam: "shut up and take my money", "best iPhone ever", etc.

Recall all the Android bashing built upon fragmentation arguments and the monumental burdens for programmers having to support a variety of screen resolutions.

Then, the rumors pick up steam, making it look like Apple is going larger screen so that the vocal majority of "3.5" is the perfect size" start hedging their statements into "wait & see". There was a strong "if then" argument that if Apple dared to increase the screen size, they would maintain the same aspect ratio to avoid "stupid" Android fragmentation and so on.

Apple rolls out a taller but not wider screen resulting in black bars until the "strained" developers could adapt and bam: "shut up and take my money", "best iPhone ever", etc.

Now go through this thread. A chunk are making the same old argument again in support of Apple's current choice of screen size as the one and only "perfect" size. Another segment is showing interest in buying a bigger-screen iPhone only to get bashed about how "stupid" such a desire is because the "as is" as handed down by the Almighty is the ONE and ONLY screen size that anyone should want.

Cue a few posts starting off with "99% of people want" (only what Apple has available for sale right now), "Apple (sometimes the biggest company in the world) can't support having more than a line or two of iPhone models", etc

Then Apple rolls out a bigger screen iPhone in the next round and bam: "Shut up and take my money", "best iPhone ever", "how did we ever get by on screen sizes smaller than this (new) ONE and ONLY best size?", etc. Do we never tire of this circle?

Those happy with the "as is" are unaffected by the "maybe next". If you like what you have, you'll still have it. Those coveting "maybe next" could simply get what they want too. In doing so, they give Apple their money so that "our" favorite company becomes even more prosperous than they already are.

I hope they make both sizes like Samsung. The SG4 and the SGN3 are two phones that hit my sweet spot for phone sizes. I'm still undecided which one I like most. If they do make a Phablet screen hopefully it will have a stylus with a built in holder and a built in notes app.

Larger screen for iPhone

Just to educate you here. I work for AT&T as a sales consultant and I listen to customers and yes, most leave apple to android for mainly the screen size.
I feel apple missed the boat this year , they should of came up with 3 sizes of iPhones ... iPhone 5s for Small. iPhone 5m for med screen and 5 L for larger, this way everyone gets what they want. The 5C was a flop , we all know it .

One size phone does not fit every persons needs. .it's like jeans. No bodies are all alike . For anyone here to be that narrow minded to think ONE SIZE PHONE fits all.. it's not good marketing for anyone. Look at HTC/SAMSUNG They have mini a s4 a Note and Mega ... Samsung was smart they went after a area apple lags in but I know the 6 will have a few models . I think there should be 3 .. Just like most.... small , med and large this way everyone is happy :)

I work for At&t .. Some not all people want larger screens . I work with the public, so you better open your mind. Not everyone is like you .. People have different needs. If you are so narrow minded , you won't get anywhere in life.

I get your point. What bothers me about Apple is that it (probably no coincidence in the end) reminds me of the current administration and the authoritarian way of thinking that can be found with liberals and many conservatives alike: Mama knows best and you are too stupid to make your own decision. Here is the new iWhatever and no shut up and pay. Choice? Oh no, not really - or only as a pretty meaningless political slogan when convenient.

"If you like your iPhone you can keep your iPhone. Period." (unless we change our mind that is). And this is the same for the operating system and hard ware. Everything is riddled with limitations and lack of choices. Which is frankly why I'm still very hesitant to dive any deeper into the Apple "eco system". Which is a shame because there are a lot of aspects that I really like about the stuff. Others not so much.

I'm DEFINATELY in for iPhone 6, gonna hold off on this iPhone 5S for that exact reason, touchID, bigger screen and god knows what else. Damn I'm in!

Bigger screen does not necessarily mean a bigger phone. It can lead to a bigger phone, but if Apple does it right, they will manage to remove some of the bezel allowing a bigger display but the same or close to the same compact size.

To me it's a foregone conclusion that a larger phone will emerge. I'm more interested in the dimension they will choose. iOS 7's resolution independence opens the door to other options. For a number of reasons (first of which being manufacturing) I honestly don't believe they would take a step back in pixel density as has been suggested so I think 326 remains the number.

The question is, will they return to 3:2 or keep the 16:9? My preference would be a return to 3:2, probably keeping the pixel height close to its current dimension. Photos remains among the most popular of use cases, and going back to 3:2 optimizes for that specific experience.

So just to pick a number, 1140x760, which translates to a ~4.2" screen, or a little less than 3/8" width of the current screen size. Keeps it from becoming too unwieldily for the pocket, and more importantly, for one hand use.

Would be curious to hear others' thoughts specifically on dimension.

No.... the bigger screen is NOT needed.

I very much agree. The current iPhone 5S are already at the point where it will be uncomfortable wearing in my jeans pocket, my suites or even jackets. It's already nearing the maximum limit of one hand use with the iPhone 5.

I just can't see how I can use a Samsung sized phone on a daily basis and comfortable with one hand use or with clothing. Much alone a women on a dinner date. A clutch purse will not do.

I think the Moto X is the perfect size for a large screened phone... now if we could just put iOS 7 on that phone ;)

Yea. I was thinking about the Moto X when I typed that. I saw a comparison where I think the X is 1/4 inch wider and taller than iPhone 5/5s. That'd be great if they could make it minimally smaller while giving us an extra .7 inches of screen.

I agree with you that Apple needs more than 1 choice for the iPhone but I don't think they need 3. With the exception of the iPod, two size choices for the rest of their product line-up seems to work out pretty well.

In this day and age, even 4" for a true smartphone is too small. Apple should take a page out of their iPad playbook and come out with two sizes - a 4.5" 720p version and a 5.2" 1080p version, both using the exact same internal hardware. That way the only trade-off a customer has to make is screen size, nothing else.

As for the 5c being a flop, that's still speculative at this point. We won't really know (if at all) until Apple releases their holiday quarterly results in January.

No.... the bigger screen is NOT needed.

We might not need it, but we would like it and desire it. And if enough people like it, it is good reason for Apple to produce it and let us pay top dollar for it.

Noone needs cars, with cycles and horses being around, but we still use them, no? A Need is relative and not for you to decide..
