I went in at the beginning of the week with intentions of getting a new 5S. After using it for two days I just couldn't get use to the miniature screen on it. It felt like a little toy in my hand. I took it back and got the LG G2 and I think it's the perfect size for my hands. I'm a man with big hands so it works for me. I'm sure the current iPhone size now works if you're a female or a guy with really small hands.

The other great benefit of such a large screen is all the room the G2 has for a bettery. I noticed the 5s was almost dead by the end of my work day, whereas the G2 is still sitting fat with about 40 percent battery left when I go to bed!

I don't see what all the resistance is to a larger screen. Let them make two versions and get the one you prefer.

I would think that unless the size is a ratio that is comparable to the current screen size and resolution, then Apple and it's developers will suffer the same screen fragmentation that plagues Android devices.

Will developer's need to include several versions of icons and graphics for each i-device screen and resolution?

Unless Apple adopts the HD resolution, I don't see them having another screen ratio to contend with.

By the way, what size would allow the benefit of a larger screen but could easily be resized for a developer?

And if it forgoes the screen ratio and just increases the real estate of the iPhone, by allowing more columns and rows, then it could be possible? I think.

Apple has already settled on a "universal" smartphone aspect ratio of 16:9. If the screen size goes up the resolution will probably be an equally universal 1280×720 or 1920×1080. This should be a non-issue for "developers"

As mentioned numerous times, I just hope that the 5.5 and the 4.5 share technology and speeds. I'm not sure if I really want the 5.5 but if it has superior processing I would feel robbed buying the 4.5.

The same stupid rumours again and again and again. Big screen and curved display.

It seems that the only phone with big screen and curved display is one that Samsung is selling in South Korea only, and that has been a total flop. So it would be obvious that Apple would copy such an obvious flop.

Or they would do the curved display better??? They've done that with things many times in the past.

Also the Galaxy Nexus had a curved glass screen. That was a few years ago. But curved display is a little different

Nobody wants a bigger iPhone. iPhone 5s is already the perfect size. These rumors are stupid.

Indeed, and I'm sure you will be 1st to repeat that After Apple sell out of their larger screen iphone model just after launching it in the near future.

At the end of the day the iPhone needs a bigger display... this whole thing about 'it won't fit in your hand', 'battery issues', 'it's not functional', bla bla bla.... is a bit silly now. It's obvious that generally people want a bigger display. Put any iPhone next to the other smart phones and the differences in screen size is very noticeable and the bigger one is typically chosen.

If they increase the screen size they should make it apply to the whole lineup. It's bad enough supporting 2 different vertical resolutions, and at least the 3.5" is on the way out. Multiple horizontal resolutions will be an app development disaster.

Like they do with the iPads? Oh wait..

My worry is hardware will be much better in the bigger iPhone like they do with the 5C and 5S now.

I think what you should be looking at is the mac mini and iPad air. They are very similarly specked and is mostly a matter of size preference.

I really doubt these rumors of multiple large phones. I think if they do one, it will be along side the current 4" and have the same specks. the iPhone color will remain a lower specked device, probably in one size for now.

When people say they want a larger screen I don't think they're saying "Same resolution, but lower dot pitch". They want more usable area.

Multiple screen sizes is not a non-issue. It's the reason Android app interfaces generally look crappy.

Definitely prefer a smaller screen if all Apple is going to do is fill it with that jumbled mess of colors on the left.

No.... the bigger screen is NOT needed.

...as long as they keep offering a smaller screen too... not ALL of us want the bigger screen.

120% agreed .....

I don't care too much if they come out with a bigger screen - as long as they keep the current screen size that comfortable fits in all my pockets. If I need a bigger screen, I use the iPad mini. But different people have different needs, and there seems to be market for phablets. Maybe they should make a phone enabled iPad mini/air for people with big pockets?

I sooooo agree with you. I for one dont want a bigger phone....I have a tablet for that, my iPad Air.....I want something that I can keep in my jeans pocket which doesnt make me look like a plonker with a mass protruding off my pocket.

I also want to be able to hold and play with my phone with one hand!

Get prepared to be disappointed. The 4 inch screen is going the way of the dodo.

Not too big

I wouldnt mind the screen a little bigger, but nothing as big as the SGS4 or Nexus 5. Those are comically big.

I don't think they would ever return back to 3:2.

Okay, fair enough. Then do you believe they stick with 16:9, or choose a new aspect ratio entirely?

My thoughts were based on my personal feelings on qualities Apple would attempt to optimize for in making the change. One handed use is a clear priority and doing the math for 16:9, it just becomes too unwieldily in my mind, particularly if you are designing for both genders.

Totally get your thinking if your premise is the questionable optics of going in one direction and then back to your original... I just can't get past how clumsy a phone that size would be at 16:9.

Oh shut up and please leave if you only came to troll. These comments don't add anything if they are about Samsung copying Apple or the other way around.

I was actually being serious. Part of Apple's reasoning in their lawsuit against Samsung was that Samsung changed how their devices look to mimic the iPhone. I wouldn't be surprised if (given that these rumors are true and they come to pass while the retrial is still ongoing) Samsung tries to use Apple's own reasoning on them.

If I were trolling, responding would be the last thing you'd want to do.

Agreed... see my previous post. tl;dr — a return to 3:2 at current 326 ppi

really so screen size is copy protected?

Do you have any idea how many "inventions" are granted a patent that are obvious or were already created before?

And many reasonable patents can be essential.

Agreed. I'm in the camp of more usable area. But if Apple keeps the same 326ppi for this rumored iPhone, it should still be a non-issue, for the most part.

That depends on the market I suppose. Here in the North-East USA the iPhone has become the standard. Unless you're one of the gaming kids or live in the ghetto where bigger with more bling still seems to be better.

As a business tool the iPhone has replaced the Blackberry around here. Simple as that. And let me tell you: as such I still miss my little Blackberry. Not that the iPhone hasn't it's advantages but a few things are quite annoying. Large size/form factor being one of them. I had preferred a 4s if it had been fully compatible with T-Mobile.
