I think it would just be a gimmick feature like on the Samsung’s. It’s supposedly really slow as is + draining your phone battery that we usually want to last the longest. Also the fact you’d need to keep your phone still facing down is quite an inconvenience and I’d honestly not even use it, unless someone needed an emergency charge..

Of course I’m just assuming, it would be beneficial (If possible) to charge the AirPods or Apple Watch for a ‘quick charge’. I don’t necessarily need to charge someone else’s phone, but if you could charge accessories like my AirPods, that would’ve been an outstanding feature. I’m sure others are in agreement with that if it was a possibility.

I have my doubts about a new iPad today. Makes no sense to give stage time to an update to one model. If they do announce one I think it will be press release only.

iPhone Pro Max is just dumb, dumb, dumb. They don’t call the 12.9” iPad the iPad Pro Max. Just call it the iPhone Pro and it comes in 2 sizes.

A trillion dollar tech company can't figure out wireless charging?

Can you list a source where is states ‘Apple couldn’t figure’ it out?

As far as we know, “The charging efficiency may not meet Apple's requirements.” Nothing indicates that they ‘couldn’t figure it out’, it very well could be that it’s not beneficial enough for them to include it as a feature if the tangible charging benefits aren’t sufficient.

My phone is constantly low on battery. I would never use it to charge anything else. But with the bi-lateral charging feature missing, I can’t use it to receive power either from another phone, huh?

yes you can charge your phone wirelessly using an android phone. you just can't use your phone to charge anything.

The phone barely lasts a day on a full charge. Last thing I would want is another way to drain it.

Exactly! I see the ads for Samsung’s use of the feature, and they are totally unrealistic. You’re going to leave your phone out on a table at a bar or coffee shop (risking theft) and let a complete stranger put their phone on top of it, draining your battery? The same trolls here who complain that iPhone has poor battery life are now whining that Apple hasn’t given them a feature that can drain their battery even faster.

I wouldn't mind having the feature. It doesn't really add any weight or bulk and seems to work well enough on my friend's S10. Would be nice to bring a single charging cable when traveling, allowing me to place my AirPods on the back of the phone when charging overnight.

why would the phone need to be faced down? just put the item you are charging face down so that you can continue using your phone if you want.

btw the newer samsung phones can wirelessly charge at 15 watts. that's super fast in apple's world. it makes sense to share power b/c they have a 4300 battery. doesn't really make sense with the tiny batteries apple gives you.

Jeez, it fascinates me so much some times, that people will go out of their way to justify Apple being lazy and scared and not including really needed features- oh, my phone battery is already low, i would NEVER need two way charging- guess what- new phone battery is fine and it would not drop by 50% if I charge my AirPods from time to time while outdoors. Oh, it's not up to Apple standarts. As if ALL Apple products are highest and above standarts (see- acc quality, Mac keyboard failure rate).
Just say as it is- Apple is not focusing on iPhones any more, X was the last major iPhone and from now on they are milking other resources and it is fine, just don't pretend like you really were rooting for needed features not to be in iPhones, because *thinks for reason* I would not need them any way.

My prediction:
iPhone (replaces iPhone XR)
iPhone Pro (replaces iPhone Xs)
iPhone Pro Max (replaces iPhone Xs Max)

In a vacuum sounds great -but Apple continues to sell previous models for many years and this will bring confusion - and more importantly - next year - what do you name it?

iPhone (Sep 2020 edition)
iPhone Pro (Sep 2020 edition)
iPhone Pro Max (Sep 2020 edition)

Kuo and Gurman both saying they're not offering it is enough for me to say they couldn't figure it out. Samsung apparently can but Apple can't. Sorry if that upsets you.

The bidi charging thing never made any sense to me. Sure you can charge your airpods but watch charging was not going to happen. The watch is not qi charging compliant. Seems like not a very Apple like feature.

As far as we know, “The charging efficiency may not meet Apple's requirements.” Nothing indicates that they ‘couldn’t figure it out’ [...]

That _exactly__ what that means if true, i.e., Apple couldn't implement a solution (aka, "figure it out") that worked within their product design target. It's up to the company to put a feature on their roadmap, and solve it to meet their requirements, including parameters like "charging efficiency". Apple deciding not to do it because the effort vs. the effective value to the product is a totally different discussion.

"First, Gurman has revised his prediction for the names of the 2019 iPhones. He now expects the next iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max to be called the iPhone 11, iPhone Pro, and iPhone Pro Max respectively. He previously expected the lineup to include the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro in two sizes."

Well, whatever is the new name, it should now be more exciting.

Someone posted this on Twitter. Not sure if legit or photoshopped. I’d be surprised if the XS models hung around. But I prefer the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11R naming.
