But who wants their phone sucked out of power to give it to you? Just a thought.
I’ve always wondered about this.
I get it, but that's why I said it would be nice and wouldn't hurt to have that feature, but not something people would use very often. If your traveling, you're going to have a lightning charger already that you would use on the plane, hotel, etc., as opposed to having to bring a charger for your watch.
Where is the innovation??????????
Massive dealbreaker. Only reason I would have considered upgrading was to charge my Watch on vacation, currently I just dont even bother taking it when I go away somewhere. Roll on 2020.
Given that Qualcomm's reverse charging operates at 4.5W and Apple has been shipping a 5W WIRED charger for eons, it's pretty laughable to assume it isn't "up to Apple's standards." More than likely the exclusion is a cost-cutting move to maximize margins.I think the bilateral charging would’ve been really nice add-on feature for the 2019 iPhone, but if it’s obviously not up to Apple’s standards, then it’s a ‘No go.’ [Kinda like the unforeseen Airpower.]

Someone posted this on Twitter. Not sure if legit or photoshopped. I’d be surprised if the XS models hung around. But I prefer the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11R naming.

Guys the event is literally less than a few hours away. Instead of guessing or predicting, just wait until the event starts lol
Today is a historic day: It's the last keynote for iPhones of this decade.
I think it would just be a gimmick feature like on the Samsung’s. It’s supposedly really slow as is + draining your phone battery that we usually want to last the longest. Also the fact you’d need to keep your phone still facing down is quite an inconvenience and I’d honestly not even use it, unless someone needed an emergency charge..

Well, do I really want to bring three lightning cables with me to charge my iPad/iPhone/AirPods? No thanks. Point is, if I can eliminate one lightning cable where I can charge my AirPods for 15 minutes bilaterally off my iPhone, [which is equivalent to three hours is usage with 15 minutes of charging], that’s an added perk in my book. FTR, I don’t think it has to be a ‘feature that people have to use very often’, it’s still the option of having that feature when someone wants to use it.
I believe they have all the talents, what they need is to hire the new management. If this charging is not included because they couldn’t get it to work... compounded with no AirPower they really need to start hiring some talent in this field.
I skipped last year because it was not a valuable or worthy upgrade, just to update a camera and processor will be a disappointment.
It seems that the most innovative team at Apple is the team naming stuff now.
Just hours ahead of today's Apple Event at Steve Jobs Theater, where the company is slated to unveil new iPhone and Apple Watch models, Bloomberg's Mark Gurman has shared several last-minute expectations.

First, Gurman has revised his prediction for the names of the 2019 iPhones. He now expects the next iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max to be called the iPhone 11, iPhone Pro, and iPhone Pro Max respectively. He previously expected the lineup to include the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro in two sizes.
Second, he expects Apple to unveil a new 10.2-inch iPad today, with previous rumors suggesting it will be a replacement for the $329 lower-end 9.7-inch iPad. Pricing and other details remain to be seen.
Third, Gurman has backed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo's report that the widely rumored device-to-device charging feature on 2019 iPhones has been canceled. In a research note seen by MacRumors, Kuo said the feature has possibly been abandoned because "the charging efficiency may not meet Apple's requirements."
2019 iPhones were rumored to feature a Qi-based device-to-device charging feature allowing for an Apple Watch, AirPods, and other accessories to charge on the back of the iPhones, similar to Wireless PowerShare on the Galaxy S10.

Wireless PowerShare on Samsung's Galaxy S10
Apple's keynote begins at 10 a.m. Pacific Time. Apple will provide a live stream on its website, through its Apple Events app for the Apple TV, and even on YouTube for the first time. MacRumors will have up-to-the-minute coverage of all of Apple's announcements on our website and via @MacRumorsLive on Twitter.

You're leaving out the obvious use case - travel. When I travel, I plug my Samsung Note 10+ into the wall charger and simultaneously use the wireless power share feature to charge my watch and/or Galaxy Buds. It is extremely convenient to not have to carry a 2nd and 3rd charger. Compound this convenience with the fact that my USB-C ThinkPad charger can also be used to charge my phone.Exactly. Who wants someone else draining their battery because this other person doesn’t prepare for the day? That’s not gonna happen-ever.
In this world you have the users/takers and the givers. The first group will happily try to impose on you to suck your battery down because they’re to lazy to carry a charger/power bank or keep their phone (buds, watch) charged.
A trillion dollar tech company can't figure out wireless charging?
Could be. But then what will next year’s phones be called? You can’t keep the same naming structure. It would be too confusing to have phones with the same names next year. If you add numbers back next year, then skipping them this year would have been pointless. I really hope they don’t do this. Too confusing. My prediction:
iPhone (replaces iPhone XR)
iPhone Pro (replaces iPhone Xs)
iPhone Pro Max (replaces iPhone Xs Max)
And it will fly ...If rumors are correct I would wait a one more year to update. Next year's model will get rid of nodge, have usb-c connector and have in screen fingerprint sensor.
