Does anybody see a camera on the front of this thing?

If it has one, it is probably behind the glass on the edge and therefore not visible - like the head sensors on the iPhone. Probably has an LED next to it that you can't see until the camera is on, like on the MacBook Pro.

Surprising way to interact

In that image it looks like the device is transparent! Maybe that's what's going to surprise people. The device could change from opaque to transparent on a whim allowing for some new functionality including seeing your fingers on the other side to do multi-touch on both.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/5.0 (iPhone; U; CPU iPhone OS 3_1_2 like Mac OS X; en-us) AppleWebKit/528.18 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile/7D11 Safari/528.16)

As rumored it has sticky notes.

A few things I noticed:

- Maps app looks more like an OS X app than an iPhone app. Probably totally new UIKit frameworks and everything to play with, should be a riot for us developers! I personally am quite stoked for it.

- Google Maps, not Bing Maps or the rumored Apple mapping service. Looks like, for now, it's going to be on Google. This probably goes for the search too.

- Really small menubar elements. This seems wasteful of space for Apple, like they should have indicators or something up top. Am I the only one who agrees?

- The "page flip" button seems to be in the bottom right corner. Pretty neat!

- As another poster mentioned, that looks like a camera up top. Very very cool!

- I am kind of bummed, this looks like a mono-application device. That, or there's some way to change the size of the applications, although that's assuming the tablet uses a window paradigm at all (might not work with multitouch interaction.)

Any thoughts on this from anybody? Am I the only one hoping I can run multiple apps?

Is it plausible, yes.

Is it possible? Doubt it. (imo)

got anything else you want to tell us :D

The perspective of the image is very weird. I know these things have to be rushed since the underground lab you all don't know about is controlled by armed guards and under 24 hr surveillance by Steve J himself, though I'd bet he's probably putting this finishing touches on tomorrows presentation right now.

"One more thing." "One more thing." "One thing more." "Oh, More than one more thing."

Screen Resolution

Here's an experiment you can try:
  1. Load up Google Maps in your web browser
  2. Search for "Charlotte Amalie, U.S. Virgin Islands"
  3. Zoom in until you can arrange your browser window to mimic the one in the photo. The blue and pink labels are decent guides.
  4. In your location bar, type javascript:alert(window.innerWidth); and hit enter. Do the same for javascript:alert(window.innerHeight);

What does that tell you? The screen resolution of this prototype is approximately 1024x768. If you zoom in one step farther, it far exceeds 1280x1024 and if you zoom out, it's way too small, so 1024x768 is the most logical conclusion.

Not bad. I would have preferred 1280x1024, but this *is* Apple we're talking about.

Yep, That's It!!!!

That is what my friend showed me. He works in an Apple Store and got some brochures from the back that will be available tomorrow in the store.

:D

This has to be the most legit looking photo yet. The device is secured with security bolts. Would we think they are letting engineers roam the campus with these things??? Of course not.

The bezel design looks fairly conservative relative to the other mock ups, which I feel is much more in line with a production release product. I doubt this first gen tablet will have that shocking of a form factor in the first place.

Yeah, well that brings up the question of whether or not an "unlocked" tablet will cost more if sold without a carrier plan, which is what donlphi was asking about.

True, if it is carrier-subsidized, then it will probably be more money without.

Then again, Apple has a lot more clout with the carriers now than back when the iPhone was introduced, so who knows what kind of deals they have been able to work up? We'll find out tomorrow...

I don't know for sure, but the images seem plausible.

Last Minute Leaked Photos of Apple Tablet?

I'll bet it's a display for tomorrows unveiling. The security screws are just like those used in museums.

This does actually seem quite legit to me.

Or, someone has really thought this out. I think it's real.

And if it's indeed glossy-only, it can't stand a chance against Kindle in e-book market...

I'm going to laugh so hard - WHEN, not if...WHEN - everyone realizes that there will be no matte option. Won't buy gloss? Then you don't get one.

Bank on it.

hahahaha.

what's that part at the top? what about this?

http://imgur.com/NowoJ

It actually looks like there is a similar "cutaway" section at the top (like the one used to make the button accessible).

The thing you are point at your picture doesn't even look like it would be on the device.

Regardless, that would be the deal breaker. I'm looking for the ideal "computer" for my grandmother so she can video chat with my kids. She currently has my old mac mini, but she would like to have it next to her so she could "answer calls" easier.

Not to mention the e-reader stuff that she would really love.

It's sad to see that this device will appeal to mostly 50-80 year old women. :D I am joking... sort of.
