Guys, it says Google on the bottom left hand corner, so no if this was real....it's not the new maps application.

This is what makes me think it's fake. Personally I don't think Apple will use Google anymore for maps since I believe they bought their own company, right?

There is simply no way that (per the engadget source) this thing only runs on Verizon.

If that were the case Apple would be screwing over roughly 25 million consumers who entered into contracts with AT&T.

Apple would simply not want to risk this revenue stream by locking a device to Verizon. If this device is going to end up on Verizon, there will be 2 models or a model that operates on both Verizon and AT&T.

why would apple just make a giant iphone....seems fishy.

You are exactly right.

I think you guys have to remember what Apple and Steve Jobs stand for.

I find it almost impossible that Apple would create a 10" iPod Touch/iPhone.

Apple has an Ace up their sleeve with this device. What is it? None of us know as of yet. My guess is it will be a Kindle Killer/Netbook Killer in a combined device that allows you to bluetooth connect a keyboard and mouse to it if you want to do more "real" work. I'm sure there will be some killer features and personally believe the UI will be a modified version of iPhone, but nothing that we actually ever see on an iPhone.

Again, think about it, if this is going to fit into there product line, it has to be something different then a 10" iPhone.

I will be supremely annoyed if this is locked down / available only with a data subscription and especially if it's only available for one carrier like the Engadget story suggests. But, perhaps I'm in the minority in not being willing to uproot carriers just for one of Apple's products. Still don't have an iPhone, though I'd love one.

Darnit, I need a job.

I'm going to need to sell somebody else's organs to buy this thing if it does what I'm hoping for.

I have some pretty specific requirements, so if it doesn't fit in, then I can breathe easy. But if it can do what I need, AND is the right form factor, I'm going to have to get really creative.

Needless to say, if you see me hanging around an Apple store after it's released, and I've got garden shears, you should probably come back later. :)

Would you please hook a brother up, and use something a little sharper?

Fake. So is the CNN thing. Why does everyone all of a sudden believe everything because we're so close to launch? A week or two ago there were giant iPhone images and people were screaming fake. Now for some reason the tablet will be a giant iPhone? I guarantee the tablet will be unique. Apple don't make products based off of their other products.

I have TWO iPhones and I am not going to pay for any other contract to buy this thing.

If it's tied to a carrier Apple is going to lose a lot of customers.

Now that Apple has made a large device to be used while holding, how are they going to handle people dropping the tablet? I hope Apple was extensive with their, dropped-from-waist-height-tests-on-a-hard-surface testing.

I don't know how the Kindle operates now, but I recall it originally having data built into the price-- it connected to Sprint's network, right? I suppose this is unlikely for an Apple device as it's likely to consume a lot more bandwidth, but it's possible.

iPhone, iMac
Macbook Pro/Macbook/Macbook Air
Airport, AppleTV

Jason Calacanis is posting on his twitter that he has been "beta" testing the tablet for two weeks. right...

it has a solar power strip on the back for charging..right..

his NDA is "basically" over...

I don't believe this crap. What do you guys think?

Not necessarily. The iPhone has to have a carrier because it is a phone.

The tablet most likely only uses connectivity for the internet, and you would therefore have the option for a cell carrier in order to connect when there is no Wifi. But I would wager it will work fine without a carrier if you think you won't need that level of connectivity.

Now... I wouldn't mind paying a little extra to allow me to use my 3G connection via Bluetooth. Keep your phone in your pocket and get online.

I also wonder if Apple has worked out a deal with any company to supply free 3G to support downloads, like the Kindle (at least I think Sprint supplies free EVDO for Kindle users downloading content).

Can I swap my at&t SIM card in/out between iPhone and the tablet? It would be cool to have that option...

Have you seen this demo from Sports Illustrated?

It's totally conceivable that Apple is going to try (and probably succeed) to create a new paradigm for content. Something that's similar to print (magazines, etc) yet interactive, but not interactive in the typical news / blog internet fashion.

The fingerprint security tweet blows it for me. That is PC gimmickry and not something I think Apple would use.

I think it's crap. Calacanis may be a big name in the web-startup world, but he's nothing in Apple's view. They didn't show the CEO of AT&T what an iPhone looked like months into their contract. No way a beta tablet of is floating out there.

And this was before he started spewing off crazy/insane specs.

I would think not considering how much bandwidth something like this will pull.

Yeah that video is sick and I def think thats the future of the Apple Tablet. I just think people are getting carried away with saying its a big iPhone.

There's no way Apple or Steve Jobs is just going to create a bigger iPhone. It's gonna be something a lot more then that in my opinion.

Yeah, he's probably been drinking some wine tonight and thought he'd have a little fun before the big Apple event tomorrow.

And Apple doesn't "beta" test products in the first place.

It's obvious by the leaked pictures tonight just how seriously Apple takes their products

Are you kidding?

How nice that MacRumors posts screenshots of a fuzzy Google Maps on a tablet from Engadget but makes no mention of the WSJ article that Apple wants the publishers to charge $12.99- $14.99 for "hardcover" books on iTunes.

My Organic Chem book costs around $200...I would be ecstatic if they charged 10% of that for textbooks.

You also have to realized that a Kindle DX is nearly $500 bucks. Now tell me you wouldn't pay 200-300 more for a COLOR, MULTITOUCH display that does A LOT more than display b/w books and newspapers...

And it won't be just an Ebook Reader.
