Does the team responsible for the updating the website work in cupertino? Do they have to pull odd nighttime shifts when they update things?

God this thread has ruined my morning!!!

I have soo much work to do by Friday and all I've done today is hit refresh every 3 minutes on both here and the Apple store!

What makes it worse is that I'm not even in the market to be buying a new product atm and won't be for another year at least!

Help!!

I'm well excited... Didnt check MR yesterday and got up today to see loads of updates... Glad I didnt miss it! Looking for a new MacMini... By the looks of the specs, the two models seem rather similar...

Yeah!

Yes, now it's official.

[just kidding]

I hope the GT120 doesn't stand for the GPU. An nVidia GT120 is just a rebranded 9500GT, which is very disappointing. When the HD2600XT was first introduced it was a mid-range card, probably at the $150 price point. With recent price drops, the 512MB HD4870 is now a $150 mid-range card. If Apple uses a GT120 low-end GPU, which is a $60 card, they would definitely be out of touch with graphics progress. What little of it there is already, given nVidia's constant rebranding, from 8xxx series to 9xxx series, now to GT1xx series.

It probably does. The 9500GT of course is just a rebranded 8600GT. Considering the Radeon 4670 is a $75 card and trounces it in all areas, performance & power consumption, it is a real shame. Not to mention that it appears the higher card will be a 4870 when the GTX 260 offers better performance. Another lack luster graphics card update from Apple. The 4670 and GTX 260 Core 216 would have made it look really good.

I offer no help, only the comfort to know that you are not alone.

I was thinking "why don't they revamp them for a change or come up with something new" but thinking about it further, it's probably for the best that they're concentrating on improving/fixing what's already there (like with Snow Leopard) rather than introducing new designs and ideas.

My bet is on iMacs this week, Mac Mini next week, Mac Pro the week after. Didn't they do it something like that last year?

Wouldn't they then have to rename it the Mac Massive?

Big Mac, surely :)
Well, given that people want at least one IEEE1394 port, a Big Mac and Firewires.

Wow this thread is so exciting and intense, and I already have a computer! It's like the cliffhangers on As The World Turns. Ok I should go back to sleep now.

It does seem incredibly hard to believe they are not upgrading the processors AT ALL after an entire year. I think there may be a bit of purposeful bad information being put out.
I hope that's true, specifically that rumored 28" iMac (quad-core) or a BTO quad-core option.

But if there's not much of a CPU update, then they could be getting the CPUs for cheaper, which means more $ available to update other components—which looks like that's what's happened.

65W is not unreasonably hot if they put a bit of effort into the design to keep it a bit cooler.
And these CPUs are cheap enough to go into most if not all of the iMacs. Twice the cores for a similar price.
