Will you be able to upgrade these to the 5580 3.2Ghz? Are Nehalem processors in the Mac Pro upgradable? I understand they are not released yet, but in the past the processors have been upgradable ? yes?

Wonder why it looks like we don't get the ass tearing one?

Does OS X even work on Nehalem?

To all those posting Apple links: please do so when something is actually updated? (And if bits are updated, please point them out.)

I have to admit, I should have read through the posts before posting. It's all good though. So I guess they are just updating the store; no special announcements out of Cupertino? Either way, today my wallet may be $2000 USD short. :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D , maybe.....

ARE you nuts or what?

Looks like some solid updates!

The only place that could be close to true is for the Mini which looks like a real update. On the iMac though we gain nothing, zip, nada. In fact if these are what is being released, Apple is giving us a royal screwing with the iMac.

Lets face it they are the same basic machine! The parts that are actually getting updated have dropped in price dramatically over the last year. Here I'm looking at RAM, hard disks and the other parts that make up the machine. Even LCD screens have crashed price wise. Apple could deliver all these so called updates and at the same time lower the price. Even sadder the iMac will not be able to compete with desktop machines from other vendors inviting even more hackintoshes and Pystars.

I could see one low end model of iMac getting this treatment but to rape the entire line in this way is just stupid. I really hope the consumer rejects this rev of the iMac and Apples Stock price crashes with every other stock out there. Frankly if they try to pull this off they are not any better than the bankers that are screwing the general public right now. In fact the bankers have an excuse in the government medalling in their business that has taken place over the last few years so truly the team at Apple is worst than these guys.

geesh go back to bed... you must have gotten up on the wrong side or not been there at all

I hope that's true, specifically that rumored 28" iMac (quad-core) or a BTO quad-core option.

But if there's not much of a CPU update, then they could be getting the CPUs for cheaper, which means more $ available to update other components—which looks like that's what's happened.
The clock speeds 2.66GHz, 2.93GHz, 3.06GHz, are reasonable enough for those to be quad cores. 2.93GHz and 3.06GHz 65W TDP Core 2 Quads are doable if Apple wanted one off chips, and if they are lower volume, particularly the 3.06GHz model. Here's hoping Apple's just labeled them Core 2 Duo as disinformation until release. Perhaps for 2.66GHz, 2.83GHz, and 3GHz Core 2 Quads.
