Hey everyone, someone here in another thread posted a website where you can enter you serial number and it will display some info on your machine as to the build factory location, date, etc...

Based on discussions with LCD panel models, cosmetic issues on some, crooked keyboards, etc. I was curious to see whether the people who experienced issues are relevant more to a specific build week or factory location and seeing which people having issues reporting their build info may just help other lookup prior to buying one.

Of course there may be no rhyme or reason to defects vs factory or build date, but it would be nice to know if there is anything to it.

So new MBP owners please visit this site http://www.chipmunk.nl/klantenservice/applemodel.html , enter your ser# and then paste in the resultant info in your replies.

Thanks for participating and hope this may have some value.

Please state in your posts whether your machine has any issues and what they were or if it is a good one.

Thanks but there isn't anything they can do with your ser# so don't worry.

Please state in your posts whether your machine has any issues or if it is a good one.

Here is mine.... and is a good one... no issues so far!

The only problem I had with mine was with the battery but I guess I was the one who broke it... I used a power adapter from a MacBook for 30 minutes becuase I didn't had mine at that moment... so there you go!

Sorry, but I am not submitting my serial number to a website that I know nothing about. :D

I'll be happy to participate if there is an official website or if the cgi script that powers the website can be run locally on a server of my own after the code is checked thoroughly.

What could they do with your serial number?

Sorry to hear about that, However from what I can determine, there is absolutely nothing anyone can do with just your Serial number. But I understand if your not comfortable with it. My whole premise of this thread is to try and shed some light on problem machines and if the factory or build week have anything to do with it. If we can analyze the data, and the more the better, and we see a clear pattern to a specific build date or factory being a larger chance of being less than good quality. Then since the MBP boxes which the Apple store will let you examine before purchase but you just can't open the box and don't need to since the sticker displaying the machine's ser# is right on the outside of the box, then a buyer can check the ser# of the machine they are about to buy and then choose not to buy it if it turns out to be a high risk machine based on its build date or factory of origin. They can simply say please give me a different box and check it as well.

Anyway I think you can see the value that finding a trend may be to potential buyers spending alot of $ and not wanting to do the nonsense efforts need struggling to get a new machine that has no issues. Hopefully we can determine something from the data but we will need as many as can post to get a meaningful sample size. Thanks...

Seems to have something pressing on the LCD from behind, resulting in ripples on the screen.

Sorry about your issue with a weird screen but maybe you could list a few descriptive details as to what made it weird. This will help others to identify similar problems.

I'm all for it and I don't mean to be a troll. I'm just naturally suspicious of any website gathering any type of data.

I would be a lot more comfortable with it if I had the source code of the website's script to review or if there was a manual process to do the same thing the script does.

I really don't know how useful this thread is going to be. The machines were released about a week ago, so it's only natural that most MBPs were built around the same time and probably in the same facility. I like the premise of the thread, though.

Sorry, wasn't sure what was wrong with it until I figured it out last night. I believe something is pushing on it from inside the lid. Definitely not right.

Battery/HD door doesn't fit as well as I would like. Speaker grill crud. Other than that, I would classify it as perfect. :D

I am entering the data now and so far it looks like we have a dozen reports but I need the following people to add the Factory Code for their posts:

    7even
    zebbz
    sukanas
    Romanesq

Thanks everyone and please keep them coming. It might be a good idea to post a link to this thread in other posts about the late 08 MBP when you see other people listing problems or happiness with their new machines.
