It's going to be a tough decision for those on the annual upgrade installment plans.

Option A: Upgrade "for free"
But you have to turn in a perfectly good phone, pay another activation fee, buy a new case, transfer Applecare and Forfeit year of payments for your 6S

Option B: Keep paying for your 6S and Own it
you don't have the "latest" phone and there always is that one gimmick that new models get (but isn't actually properly implemented until the next next gen. Retina, 64bit, TouchID, 3DTouch...)

I think most annual upgraders are used to justifying the replacement but this year just feels so different. I'm sure the iPhone 7 is a solid device but next years iPhone X will be the ultimate iPhone.

My method is, buy a newest and greatest iPhone upfront without contracts and then use something like go phone. Contracts are cancer, at least to me anyway.

The more I see this, the more I believe it is a controlled leak.

Probably not. Credible design leaks start usually around April, and anything during the summer months is typically is spot on.

Rumor cycle has been the same since the iPhone 5, so I'd be ready to accept the shown design, which is incredibly boring.

Newsflash most companies going forward will be updating their design every 3 years.. That's the way forward as it becomes harder and harder for major improvements

Yeah, designs will last longer with maybe a minor modification or two, processors & other components will be used longer, software updates will more on the marginal side with maybe the occasional exception. After the tech explosion of the past 20 years, the industry seems to be taking it a little slow now, not necessarily in development, but in viable, marketable product output. Eventually, things will speed up again (as long as we don't experience a worldwide depression or something).

Exactly. We knew how the iPhone 6 would look like months before it was released. Same story here.

You're asking to get rid of the person most credited with the design of just about every Apple product you have used in the past two decades...
That is in the past. You can't live off the "old glory" in today's business. Either you deliver or you dont. Got to stay professional about these things.

Hmmm.... I like my 6s Plus but I don't know if the rumoured 7 Plus would be my next purchase with that dual lens set up.

But given we're just over 2 months away from finding out either a) these are the real deal or b) the iPhone Tim Cook says we'll want is being hid behind a mass of fakes and smoke screen.

It's going to look different clearly. However doubt it looks much different as with duel camera it seems likely there will be a bump

Meh a pretty average upgrade to be fair.

It will be a basic camera bump to be in line with the S7 - slightly wider lens aperture for better low light and probably improved selfie camera and of course the improved gpu/cpu as well.

What really annoys me is that it will still be behind the Galaxy S7 in terms of waterproofing and display.

The display on the S7 is simply outstanding, I've never seen anything that good on a smartphone and whats remarkable is it feels the same size as the 6s yet actually has a bigger screen and battery.

Being able to submerge the S7 without worrying is pretty darn cool i have to say

Basically we have to wait for the iPhone 7s (8?) to get these features which is annoying as hell since my contract expires this year and the update looks weak as piss this time around.

oh and also can they make it not slippery! i am so scared to hold the iPhone 6s as it feels like it will slip out of my hand at any second..

How do you any of this and predict the future with such certainty?

The s7 was the same type of improvement over the s6 you are now claiming Apple is doing with the iPhone 7 over the iPhone 6.

Don't forget one thing: Samsung Galaxy S7 DOES include headphone jack while achieving waterproof, true waterproof. If Apple needs to remove headphone jack to achieve waterproof, I doubt the capability of Apple R&D in this case.

I don't think anyone is 100% certain but you can go by previous years upgrades.

Looks like iPhone 7 may not increase battery or make it water resistant let alone match the insanely good display on the S7. It seriously puts the iphone to shame with how good the screen is!

I'm not asking for a revolution, but at least give us more ram, better display with an oled screen and water resistance.

I agree that the better camera is worth the bump, but I think the point people are making is they could fill out the phone's thickness to match the camera and add a lot more battery. That's really the best option of all.
I don't think that many users even notice the protruding lens. How many people ever have their iPhone not in a case?

I am one of them who does not use case at all.

And yes, I can see the protruding camera, and naked phone cannot be put on flat surface perfectly anymore.

I too would prefer a flat back to the iPhone. However, if it is a choice between a better quality camera and a flat back I would choose the better camera. Having said that I would not worry about a thicker phone which provided better battery life, a flat back and great camera. However, with the pre suit for thinness I doubt this will happen in the current environment.

Two images have emerged online this morning allegedly showing the rear cases of an iPhone 7 and 7 Plus leaked from the Chinese supply chain.

The first image posted by French site nowhereelse.fr claims to show the back of the upcoming 4.7-inch iPhone 7 with the expected antenna bands restricted to the edges of the casing, rather than running along the rear.

Alongside the usual microphone and LED flash, it also appears to show a larger protruding camera cut-out, which is consistent with rumors that the device will feature a larger back camera with likely improved CMOS sensor.

Interestingly, Engadget's take on the same alleged leak cites a couple of claims from its source at Chinese repair shop Rock Fix that we've heard before. One is that the headphone jack is "here to stay" on the 4.7-inch handset, the other is that the iPhone 7 will come in two flavors: a base model to replace the iPhone 6, alongside the expected flagship model.

The first claim comes despite widespread and apparently confirmed rumors indicating that Apple will switch exclusively to Lightning and Bluetooth audio output for wired and wireless headphones.

The second claim appears to be associated with an earlier leaked image from Rock Fix depicting a trio of iPhone 7 and 7 Plus display components that could just as easily be from early prototype stages. Both claims seem unlikely at this late stage in the rumor cycle.

Meanwhile, the alleged shot of an iPhone 7 Plus case depicts the now-familiar pill-shaped camera enclosure, corroborating widely circulated rumors that Apple plans for a superior dual-lens camera to be exclusive to the larger 5.5-inch handset.

In the close-up shown here, the top of the plastic shell enclosing the case also appears to have an unusual opening in the centre. Nowhereelse.fr suggests this could indicate the presence of a sensor or port of some kind, although such an inclusion would be unusual at this location.

Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 7 series in September. The smartphones are also expected to retain iPhone 6s-like designs with faster Apple A10 processors, dustproofing and waterproofing, and faster LTE and Wi-Fi.

This all looks a bit fakey-fakey but havng said that if the camera has a big lens so be it. Form must always respect the function and Apple has long forgotten that hence the problems with self destruction from over heating. The iPhone is more of a still/video camera and personal computer like a small iPad with phone/text capabilities.

I really just wished apple tried to hide the antenna lines totally. I mean sure remove a bit more but just colour it in the same colour, i'm sure there are metallic plastics that really blend well. Most people hide that stuff in a case anyway i suppose.

I'd be more interested in seeing apple reduce bezels. The chin and forehead could be slimmed a little for sure but the sides, OMG the sides just need work. I don't like the samsung s7 edge but the screen is almost dripping of the sides, i'm totally confused why we still have that white/black glass edge it's so hideous!

I agree that the s7 has the better screen now. But there are also rumors that Apple will use at least in one iPhone 7 a true-tone laminated display, like the 9.7 iPad pro. That display was called the best display in a mobile device by displaymate, and was reviewed by them after the review of the s7.
Hoping for a resolution increase over the iPhone 6/s as well....

oled screen is not a draw for me, I'm
Looking for ways Apple makes a compelling case with iOS 10 andbiphone 7; not tick marks on a comparison list. Full water proofing would be nice; and I want an oled display that doesn't give me a headache.

OLED displays are by far the best in the world. It's just a fact. LCD cannot produce deep blacks at all

The display on the S7 is sensational, not that I own one mind you I've just spent a lot of time with it.

I'd be happy that if the only change is to match the screen quality of the S7 with a similar size screen. It's crazy how well samsung designed the phone that they are identical in size yet one is 5" and the other is 4.7"

Displaymate are not really taken seriously in the CE industry to be fair. There is no chance that an LCD display like the one on all iOS devices, is better than an oled display. Especially for blacks with infinite contrast and incredible viewing angles LCDs can't even match.

The easiest test is have a oled display next to an LCD and watch a movie with black bars and you can see the difference.

I'd love to see at least 1080p on the 7 mini version at a bare minimum.

Well if you like it I'm happy for you. You could measure something objectively and it could have a better score but still not be the best. I really dont care for pentile displays and I hope when Apple switches from lcd they dont go pentile.

In order of things:
- better faster coy and gpu
- 3dt 2
- more sensors for additional capabilities
- more ram
- additional water resistance
- better display

Fair point mate. However ignore the pentile issue - that isn't a big problem these days as it was initially. There are technical reasons as to why they have to use a sub matrix of pixels as the oled suffers from blue pixel "decay" over time so a white sub pixel essentially fixes this completely. They also do not suffer from burn in at all unlike when first released.

Check out an oled tv next to an LCD and you can see a big difference instantly - same with smartphones displays

I'd prefer a true RGB oled display however this is impossible to mass produce at this stage.

The true facts are LCD can't do black/contrast hence it looks grey. Only oled can do proper blacks and that is why the colours look phenomenal due to the contrasting of colour on true black.

Always loved my iPhone 6. Always thought the "plus" was too big for me. Now I'm wondering if I should make the jump. I work at home and my phone usually sits on my desk. Not sure how "pocketable" the bigger one is... or how much that would even really impact me. It just seems for browsing (which is what I do a lot on there) it would be better for me. Plus the improved camera would be very welcomed. Hmmm.... I have a couple of months to ponder it.

P.S. I don't use a case (and would not plan to with a larger phone).
