That oblong camera / sensor opening suggests to me that Apple might be aiming to capture depth information, thus opening the door for cutting edge augmented reality functionality in their iPhones.

I quite like the design of the dual cam on the plus/pro. It is not so refined, but is quite high tech /heavy duty looking. I care more about the front. And that is what I am worried about. The 6s plus has too much bezel/chins, they should focus on that...

What I don't understand is Apple is focusing on the camera side of the iPhone with some minor tweaks with the iOS but at the end of the day the iPhone should be all about the phone and not a camera. if we want a decent camera then we can buy a Camera not a phone ...... Apple has lost its way and try to convince us with some gimmicks in the iOS which most of us wouldn't use on a daily basis. I believe thats why apple introduced the iPhone upgrade program as the sales would start to drop .... Also you just need to look at the other products for example the iPad mini and iPad are basically the same just different sizes and why did they feel the need to make everything in three colours ... customers wanted them....really I don't think so Apple you have forgotten how to innovate I'm afraid ......IMHO

Apple has made the iphones so thin that there will always be a camera bump. The more advanced and sophisticated the cameras become...it's unavoidable. Being a travel blogger who uses my iPhone as my travel camera, I can totally live with that. Others seem so obsessed about the camera bump it borders on psychosis.

It doesn't bother me at all with the iPhone, as with a cover it's a non issue. On my 9.7" iPad Pro (where I don't actually need that camera!) it's a PITA to me. I don't need a cover there (because I mostly use it at home) and it's really difficult to always think at that bump and make sure you don't scratch it when placing your iPad somehwere.

Introducing the iPhone 7 Bump

We've re-engineered the 7B from the ground up to give you a new, yet familiar Bump.

Now you'll have a Bump on the camera lense, our iconic Apple logo, and a diamond cut raised home button. You can now feel all of the edges of the home button, every time you go to the home screen.

We didn't stop there. The power, volume, and mute switch are now made of titanium infused carbonite gasket silver and have been extended .11cm to give precise, tactile feedback. What your thought couldn't get any thicker, got thicker.

One more thing....

The beautiful iPhone 7B Plus has been given an extended Bump on the camera lense to make your Bump feel even more Bumpier. People will know when you Bump them, before you even Bump them.

With all of these great new features we've kept the iPhone Bump at $1399 for the base model and $1899, $2099 for our higher storage models.

Storage starts, as always, at 16GB. We also offer 512GB and 1TB models to make sure you feel bad about the 16GB you bought for your mom. One year and twenty 4K cat videos later, you'll get a call from her telling you she can't take pictures of Fufu.

The Same iPhone You Already Own With A Bump will be available this holiday season on Christmas Eve at 12am. Happy holidays.

Not sure why folks are going bananas over the camera hump? I'd say 90% of the iPhone users rock a case which negates the look. I'm more interested in the image quality and camera features versus obsessing over cosmetics. Just saying.

Wow, I fall in the 10%...

Reduce the bezels, make the phone thinner, lighter, faster, improve the battery life by 10-15%, upgrade the RAM to 3GB and get rid of the protruding camera while adding a higher quality FaceTime camera plz!

So did people stop using cases? Because all of these protruding camera antenna lines complaints won't matter when 95% of people put a case on it. I just want it to be faster and have better battery life. If we want to complain about a design flaw let's rally around a campaign to reduce these bezels.

Be awesome if Apple could stagger the battery like in the MacBook and have a tapered phone. Will give room up top for the camera but still feel thin.
[doublepost=1466933949][/doublepost]Also, a black and gold phone. Black front, gold back.

Huawei did a nice job with the 6P, in my opinion.

Apple is a world class company with world class design and engineering teams...

If any of these rumors about a camera bump are true, it proves that Apple doesn't care about obscenely ugly products.

Furthermore it proves Apple hypocrisy is alive and well.

If only the iPhone 7 Plus is getting the new dual cameras, I wonder what if any camera changes the regular iphone 7 will get? The lens opening looks bigger. So perhaps a wicked cool large aperture for better low light and shallow depth of field? Maybe a large sensor too? I wonder. I don't think Apple has to force upsale people to the plus model by giving it better specs. I think most people want the phablet size nowadays anyway. It's probably because they can't pack the same tech into the smaller model. Would be nice to have the dual camera in it tho. Guess it just can't fit yet.

I would prefer a wide angle lens. The LG G5 lens is amazing with the wide angle feature.

If they could do that for the 7, and then dual cameras for the 7+, I would think it a worthwhile upgrade for a lot of people. I have a feeling it's going to be nothing new except better low light capability and a slightly better boaka though. Which is noteworthy, but not anything new (to an iPhone).

It's not difficult to understand at all. People enjoy making photographs. Millions are made everyday. And if you have a camera that is always with you (in your phone), then that makes creating photographs super easy. Some of my best photos were made with my iPhone, simply because it was with me when an opportunity presented itself. I'd put them up against any photos made with my "real" cameras.

The "minor tweaks" with the OS you refer to are actually huge, speaking to the new APIs for capturing and processing RAW image files. May not mean anything to you, but for those into photography that permits far better image processing, and as a result, better photographs.

The problem are both. One designs trash, the other approves trash.

So which half are you? Did you write this trash, or did you simply approve it and hit the post button?

One man's trash is millions' treasure. Thankfully you're not on the design board.

Yup. So many "experts" who know more about design or running a company than all those "idiots" at Apple.

I'm disappointed they still haven't managed to hide the ugly antenna lines and get rid of the camera bump.

I don't see any reason to believe that the iPhone 7 is going to stem the iPhone sales decline.

i don't get all why all the hate for the antenna bands.. without them it will look even more like a slump anonymus brick of aluminum. they give a sense of shape, curves, 3dimensionality.

am i too the only one who thnks a metal chassis is far superior to the rumored future glass one? i mean, seriously, all glass?? do i even need to explain?

I can't believe how many people have defended the camera bump here. It was literally bad enough in the 6/6+ models, to make it even bigger and more noticeable should be VERY concerning, if you care at all about the aesthetics of a device or Apple's design team. Seriously not good.

Two images have emerged online this morning allegedly showing the rear cases of an iPhone 7 and 7 Plus leaked from the Chinese supply chain.

The first image posted by French site nowhereelse.fr claims to show the back of the upcoming 4.7-inch iPhone 7 with the expected antenna bands restricted to the edges of the casing, rather than running along the rear.

Alongside the usual microphone and LED flash, it also appears to show a larger protruding camera cut-out, which is consistent with rumors that the device will feature a larger back camera with likely improved CMOS sensor.

Interestingly, Engadget's take on the same alleged leak cites a couple of claims from its source at Chinese repair shop Rock Fix that we've heard before. One is that the headphone jack is "here to stay" on the 4.7-inch handset, the other is that the iPhone 7 will come in two flavors: a base model to replace the iPhone 6, alongside the expected flagship model.

The first claim comes despite widespread and apparently confirmed rumors indicating that Apple will switch exclusively to Lightning and Bluetooth audio output for wired and wireless headphones.

The second claim appears to be associated with an earlier leaked image from Rock Fix depicting a trio of iPhone 7 and 7 Plus display components that could just as easily be from early prototype stages. Both claims seem unlikely at this late stage in the rumor cycle.

Meanwhile, the alleged shot of an iPhone 7 Plus case depicts the now-familiar pill-shaped camera enclosure, corroborating widely circulated rumors that Apple plans for a superior dual-lens camera to be exclusive to the larger 5.5-inch handset.

In the close-up shown here, the top of the plastic shell enclosing the case also appears to have an unusual opening in the centre. Nowhereelse.fr suggests this could indicate the presence of a sensor or port of some kind, although such an inclusion would be unusual at this location.

Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 7 series in September. The smartphones are also expected to retain iPhone 6s-like designs with faster Apple A10 processors, dustproofing and waterproofing, and faster LTE and Wi-Fi.

Same old same old. Like I said previously, some new features, the same or similar boring design, sad really. Better camera? Great, everyone's selfies are going to be that much better. Getting rid of the headphone jack is not that big of a deal. Means all of the millions of traditional headphones we use will require an adapter that Apple will charge $50 for...

There are too many other great new products from other manufacturers to ignore. All these constant tweaks all the while several other products with outdated hardware are still being sold at prices way above the competition. I don't know how much longer they can keep this up. It's getting depressing.

Sorry for the rant. I have been an Apple junkie for 20 plus years but they are no longer innovators of design anymore. Late to the game with their watch, outdated hardware, pretty much just an endless cycle of tweaks to existing hardware.
