Ya that is JUST what Leopard needs is more of the space theme and nerd-fest they are turning it into. Seriously lose the space theme except for time machine and stop turning it into a freakin' nerd OS. What happened to Apple knowing what's cool??? Let's just make the whole OS Star-Trek themed while we are at it...

I do agree with you to some extent. The new music is much better, IMO. For those who aren't too fond of the "nerdy stigmas", (except for time machine which we both agree on) the default space-themed desktop BG can always be changed to suit your fancy. All in all, it doesn't bother me.

Though you can always change the background or settings, you only get one chance to make a first impression. If that first impression is "Sci Fi Nerds OS", that's not going to get OS X acceptance. And look around you - lots of people stick with the default that OS X gives them, especially casual users.

The main thing is that people use the background image in the store and see it on the website...that can really change a buying decision...

whats wrong w/ a space theme? just b/c YOU think its repulsive, others will think its awesome, like me

I have a question. What happened to the resolution independent interface in Leopard? Have we really seen all the "Top Secret" features Leopard has to offer.:(

My thoughts exactly- I love how people on this board are getting excited over visual changes... um, what happened to those 200+ top secret features?

There seems to be no discussion of them whatsoever...

That's a big feature I look forward to as well. I assume that the feature is there, reasonably mature, and ready to be enabled (next year?) when more apps are ready to support it.

It's not a secret--Apple announced this feature (so devs could prepare their apps for it) back with Tiger, and in fact Tiger has res independence (though normally disabled since it's just for testing).

But it's also not ready to tout as a feature, since I'm sure many/most apps can't handle it well yet. In fact, amazingly, I've never heard of one single developer doing anything to support it, despite Apple's warning about it a couple years ago. I'm sure some apps ARE ready for it, but I'm sure many aren't. So it would provide a really poor, inconsistent user experience.

So I think Apple will enable it by software update at some future time. (And the dev tools can probably enable it now--like they can with Tiger: just install the Quartz Debug app.)

Those are months-old news. We're discussing this build's CHANGES--and many of them seem to be visual.

By the time they are seeing the intro movie, and deciding whether or not to learn how to change the desktop picture, Apple has already made the sale :)

I'd hardly call the current upgrade issues serious, but thank you for correcting me. Regardless, we're gettin' close guys! :)

But it doesnt look that nerdy! It looks SHINEY!!!!!and pink.....

...and scientifically, ASTRONOMICALLY astounding???

Also, don't forget the concept of pink varies in different cultures... so it can fly with both genders. :D

Just to settle this, it's not pink, it's a range of purple tones :)

And it's not space, it's a night sky. That's the aurora, not a nebula.

...And all those discussions from months ago didn't have any substantial information and even if they did, it sure hasn't materialized into anything big as of yet.

Wouldn't developers shed light about these so-called "top secret" features? Instead of describing to us (in great detail) how the reflective dock is so wonderful. Come on now, let's look beyond the eye-candy...

i agree... aqua is outdated, but visually it's much better than the new iTunes scroll bars...

i'm hoping they'll change scroll bars to something tasteful, but i think the iTunes scroll bars are in for 10.5.

I'm with you on that. Some want the Aqua bars to go, some want the Aqua bars to stay. But in the end, why can't we get the best of both worlds? Something visually pleasing, yet consistent with the rest of the UI.

There are no "top secret" features left to learn. We knew about them this summer. Mainly they were the new UI. Example: stacks in the Dock (which is functionality, not just eye candy).

The main reason it isn't exposed is that no hardware exists that needs it... YET. Apple has given guidance on this but that is all I can say.

I know several developers at several companies that have been preparing for it (I am one of them).
