My goodness, the next iPhone easily is The Ugliest phone in recent times. The premium label goes beyond materials used. This design by no means brings the word "premium" to mind. Puke.

Even if Apple could remove or reduce the size the notch, me thinks they would keep it simply to defend their design decision. At least for another year. Then they'll remove it and spin it as progress and innovation.

I for one, don’t believe this rumor/render will look anything like that on the 2019 iPhone XR. I suspect it will resemble the dual camera similar to what the iPhone XS/iPhone8 Plus is.

That wouldn’t work for providing more depth in multiple directions, that’s why the triple lens camera will be oriented that way from past renders, not to mention, it will also make more practical sense for VR rendering. The dual wouldn’t probably be able to accomplish the same tasks aligned vertically.
This is not true. Depth is determined by the difference in distance between the two lenses. It's exactly how we see using our eyes; stereoscopic. The orientation doesn't matter since the distance ratios will still be the same. Turning your head sideways doesn't inhibit your ability to perceive depth. We can't know what Apple's rumored triple lens config is for because we don't know what lenses it will contain. So saying it's because of depth sensing or VR (uh, what?) doesn't make sense. What Apple might bring could affect those things but claiming the lens orientation materially affects, well anything, is simply guessing.

I seriously hope it doesn't look like this. ugh

It's official, the iPhone has been hit too many times with the ugly stick, Jon Ives is either asleep at the wheel or just does not care anymore. If this is the direction of the next XR and XS line, I am happy that the 2018 models that I upgraded too may be the last for the foreseeable future.

Forehead in the front and whatever that untreated growth is at the rear, this is what happens when you don't treat a bump sooner, it multiplies and grows in size :p:eek:;)

Surely these renders are a joke?.

I’d say this render is particularly fictitious. I don’t see any given reason why Apple would change the camera orientation on the XR, especially given there’s no reason why it wouldn’t adopt the dual/telephoto camera from the iPhone XS as an upgrade. A lot of these renders are ‘fan-made art’ that aren’t always indicative of what we really will see, even though The triple lens camera rumored is of likeliness of what we will see for the iPhone 11.

A13 and bump up to 1080p screen would work for me.

Yup. Generally speaking, that’s really all the XR needs. The most crucial part is the $750 price point, it already adopted a lot of features/capabilities from the XS, anything else will be a bonus as long as it includes the starting price point at $750. (And for the record, I actually think the liquid retina display an XR looks amazing for what it offers.)

I am sure I am not alone in this; but, who cares about the camera at this point. It started taking amazing pictures a few releases ago. This is all they got?

How is Google able to have amazing pictures with one camera and Apple cannot come close with two. I feel Apple should work on image quality and release it for all iPhone models starting from the 7 onwards if possible. Having people artificially upgrade for improved picture quality is a cheap sales tactic when the Pixel 3a offers better image quality for under $500 USD.

2018 was the year to buy a new phone if you wanted one...
The X was to have at a reasonable price, the XR was just launched, just as the XS Max as the largest iPhone. On the contrary, the SE (formfactor) seems to be dead.

Smartphone engineering is done for now. The only thing that keeps improving is the camera and the computing power.
Both are reasons to upgrade, but neither justifies an upgrade more frequently than every 2-3 years.

Remember when Apple made sleek and attractive phones? I don't even mind the standard X or XR design, but these new 2019 iPhones are an extreme break from the quality we have seen in past years.

Looks fine to me, keep in consistent with the new iPhone's. I think I'd like the 6.1 size better than 5.8 and 6.5, but I couldn't do LCD and thick bezels. Maybe we see changes eventually.

I don't care for it, but once you put a case on the phone it will pretty much disappear. As far as it being on the two-camera XR, that is probably nothing more than keeping a design choice consistent across models. It doesn't make it quite so obvious you got the cheaper iPhone.
