This is good news considering how obvious of a defect this is. But all I want is a free bumper if that solves the whole thing. I'm willing to give Apple some time to see if it has a fix for this, but a law firm can't just start a class action suit overnight.

I think I am one of the few people who finds this hilarious and actually gets the joke. (Simpsons ftw).

As for those becoming part of this lawsuit, you are all idiots. You will get next to nothing out of it, lawyers will make a crap load of money, and it will only impact the consumers in the end. Well played.

who cares? there is evidence floating around the internet that apple knew about these problems and their solution was to sell you something at 10000% markup.

if only the lawyers make out it will still teach apple a lesson. first the yellow imacs, now iphone 4's with signal issues that were covered up and glue that wasn't dry.

Ridiculous. Being a new adopter means two things (at least in this specific case): 1) you are a fan of the iPhone, you have either come to love it through previous versions, or seen it and loved it, Apple has let down a large proportion of these fans. 2) you take the risk of buying into new technology, but you made that risk because you felt that you were getting a "top-notch" product. Sure top-notch doesnt mean perfect, but this signal loss issue is a huge problem.

Being a new adopter means it IS your responsibility to whine, how else will the product maker know what is wrong and be able to produce fixes to the issues in the new product?

No. Whining will not solve anything.

Better ways to handle things are
1. return the phone, period.
2. wait for a fix. If it's not fix within your return windows, then return the phone before then, you lose nothing.
3. if you really want to keep the phone, get a case as a quick fix while waiting for a real fix
4. if there's no real fix, and you really want to keep the phone, get the quick fix and stop whining because it's the cost of being early adopters.

But you can STILL RETURN THE PHONE. If you are pissed about the quality of the device, return it to the frickin store. Why the heck would you keep something you think is defective? JUST RETURN IT. Nobody forced you to buy it, and nobody is forcing you to keep it.

Thats what I don't get. Why the heck don't the unsatisfied whiners who want to sue just take the damn phone back to the store?? Thats what people do when they buy something they deem is defective! No common sense on some of you.

Dear Lawsuit Mongers, Get well soon.

So people who are so disgusted with the iphone antenna issue would rather sue apple and keep the product than return the product?

Is there some difficulty or even full out rejection from any of the companies you are suing while returning the faulty product?

I guess I would understand if the product in question didn't work AT ALL. In this case it seems it only "breaks" under certain circumstances, of which seem very reproducible to all affected and known workarounds are thought to, at least temporarily until a software fix is released, remedy this circumstantial issue.

At that point, if the software fix does remedy the issue permanently, there would be no more hub bub about class action suits and "deserved" compensation.

I think that people who would rather jump straight to lawsuits (in this very case) are either money-grubbing, attention "whores", sick in the head, or just plain unintelligent to spend more time and energy taking this to court than just returning the product, and get the, apparently unaffected, 3GS instead.

I understand suing for compensation for any money thereafter returning the product to try and "make things straight" but I figured that would be towards AT&T. But whatev

I hope these unsatisfied people would just return the product and help move my ship time up further :)

If the antenna issue is as big as you say it is then why even wait 30 days? Just go ahead and return the phone and get your money back.

As someone else said - I love the phone, that's not the problem. I have calls where I pick up the phone naturally (in my right hand) then have the person the other end of the line say "you're getting really crackly" and I remember I have to hold the phone like it's a cup of English tea with my pinky out in the air... This response from the lawyers would not have happened if Steve Jobs would not have said "It's not a problem" - that is a blatant lie and he knows it. That's what has annoyed people and we'd rather he come out and say he's doing something about it or just say you'll have to wait for iPhone 4"S" so we can accept nothing will be done and send this one back. Cryptic answers to some people's emails is a pretty poor way of doing PR.

This is absurd.

I have had zero issues with my iPhone 4 since I got it last Thursday. This is because a few bars drop if you hold it a certain way? La-dee-freakin' da. This concerns only a few techies that need something to criticize. If you asked the other 1.69 million people with the phone, I bet you they haven't noticed anything.

And the vast majority of Toyota owners wouldn't have noticed their brake issue until it happened to them either. That's stupid logic.

As is the logic that just because you don't see it, it's not a problem. And it's not about losing bars. It's about the fact that if I touch the phone in the lower left during data transfers, it throttles it completely, or if I'm on a call it degrades the quality or simply drops the call. You bury your head in the sand with the other famboys here, but I'm not.

One of the stories on the front page of macrumors right now is a reply from Jobs which states.

"There is no reception issue. Stay tuned"

So yes he explicitly stated that there is "no reception issue".

So what were you saying?

That statement does not mean "no issues". Please note my quotes. the words "no reception issue" does not mean "no issue". The two statement are totally different.

You can love something, but if its broken you need to return it. Clearly you don't love the phone anyway if it doesn't work. If a Ford dealership sold me a nice F150 that had 4 flat tires I would return the friggin truck! I wouldn't say "well I love the truck thats not the issue, the problem is these tires!"

When something doesn't work right... RETURN IT.

Sue Sue Sue. Just return the damn phone if you are having problems, that's what the return policy is for!

Everyone keeps saying just return the phone. Why should I have too pay a restocking fee for an item purchased that doesn't work. I am working with AMEX to get this portion of the return credited.

This is the way I naturally, comfortably hold my phone:

There's really no other place for my fingers to go. I'm actually surprised anyone can hold the phone at all and NOT have the problem. Note that I'm holding it in my right hand (this is not a "left-handed" issue as some would have you believe), and it's the same way Apple has even demonstrated it in their promotional materials. I don't think I am doing anything unreasonable here.

this is the way a lot of other users hold it, and with signal issues
it's a non issue.............. ??

just change your grip................

You deserve an ovation, sir. Whenever I've bought a crappy product, I returned it for a refund and bought someone else's product that worked properly. I didn't keep the crappy product, complain about it to anyone who would listen, and then sue the manufacturer. That would be stupid on my part, but apparently, this world is full of stupid people nowadays.

If you make the case showing that it is defective, they shouldn't require a restocking fee. Reason with the people.

Apple brought this upon themselves. The quiet attitude coupled with the snide "hold it a different way" emails just dug the hole deeper.

I have contacted Apple thru the MyApple # and was told they haven't heard about this and I could just exchange it. I Tried that and they had no replacements last night, but I guess thats not going to help anyway...

Now Im at a loss what to do, I love the phone just want it to work correctly.

I would keep exchanging it till you get one you like.

The other possibility is return the phone and buy one of the many other smartphones out there.

if yall dont have any respect for apple and dont care then dont buy the dam iphone ...its just that simple..for me steve jobs is god and he know wat he is doing....just shut up and do your work cz yall aint going to get nothig out if it and apple is not a small compnay where a lawsuit is going to cause them to shut it dwn...u poor people bloody KCR aint no one gonna support yall because we love our iphones to death...yall bloody poor people firm dont have nything better to do...just look at the sales figueres 1.7 mill in 3 days...no body gonna support u or ur lawsuit...get the eff outta here before steve jobs shows his color and personally kill yall

LOL I hope this isn't your normal persona.

Semantics aside - it shows they are aware of and working on the problem.

No it doesn't. They could out a BS statement showing how this is natural and blah blah blah, because of the reactions here is a case for your trouble.

Or they could say nothing at all, ever again, if we all go away and be quiet about it.

there are laws about knowingly selling defective products. in this case it seems apple even tried to profit off it by selling overpriced accessories. it will come out in discovery if apple decided to sell the bumpers due to the signal issues

years ago Toshiba was sued due to floppy drives that lost data.

I'd rather see a class action suit come up regarding the faulty 2006 iMacs they made. Leaving ur customer high and dry charging 800 bucks for an issue u know is wring with ur machine is just not right.

I love my phone, but this is sweet. Nail Apple to the damn wall. Steve Jobs moronic "non-issue" and "you're holding it wrong" responses are going to bite him in the ass. Justifiably.

Unfortunately, if Steve Jobs responses to customer e-mails turn out to be a factor in a law suit, the net result will be that he will no longer respond to customer e-mails.

I'm glad a lawsuit might come of this.

Even if it goes nowhere, I think it will serve to expose the problem further, and hopefully spur Apple to make this situation right.

I really love Apple's products and I own a decent amount of AAPL, but the whole "avoid holding it in that way" has completely turned me off to owning one of these new iPhones.

I really hope that Apple makes this right.
