Show me where Apple said this and I will agree with you.

Don't hold it that way = "Apple know there is a problem."
Stay tuned = "They are working out how to fix it"

There you go.

That'd be more acceptable if Apple released a statement saying "we are aware that our new phone has a very problematic design flaw and are doing everything we can to find a solution.". Instead, all we have is Steve Jobs saying "sorry, just hold it differently."

By giving the workaround - it is stating there is an issue that needs working around.

Expecting them to aplologise is wishful thinking. Apple don't make statements like that.

All i care about is them fixing it.

Its the '3.1 coma' all over again, just wait and see.

Jobs is not going to go on daytime tv like a penitent soap star and cry for forgiveness.
He is going to make someone ELSE cry until they have fixed the issue. :D

The phone has been out for like a week. Why not let Apple try and fix it? With this approach, they'll be less inclined to be so accommodating. Apple always comes through. That's the real reason for those lines last week. This is just disgusting.

That is completely reasonable. However, I would have to assume that lawyers are looking at this because Steve Jobs has denied any issue. Whether or not there is a problem with such matters, that is to be determined by the justice system. I don't see much of a case at this point since the phones are new and can be returned, but then I am not a lawyer nor do I study such cases. Class action suits that I have been involved with were always with products that failed just beyond the warranty period. Sony's faulty SXRD optical block and Philips faulty CD-R drives to name a couple. Both failed in masses outside the warranty period.

Why promote them?

I'm disappointed that MacRumors is giving space on their web page to this scum sucking organization.

People need to stop yapping and realize this is just the beginning of creating a possible lawsuit. No one has filed a lawsuit fanboys.

Also, Apple has handled this entire reception issue horribly, and the longer they do so the more likely they're making these lawsuits. If they step up immediately and offer a genuine fix for this problem, there won't be any lawsuits. But if they continue to stonewall and act like nothing is really happening, of course lawyers are going to see an opportunity to do something about it, because anyone with a brain knows this reception issue is real and needs to be dealt with in a real way.

"supposed to be", "these things should be top notch", etc.... do NOT mean perfection. There are issues in everything from your underwear to your house. Do you buy this phone with that expectation? Like others have said, it's the cost of new adopters. People who buy or try brand new products should know this, this should be common sense. They should have take some responsibilities and test the phone if they value their money. If they trust apple or any company when they say their products are perfect than whose fault do you think that is? Beside the companies, it's also their responsibility. Being a new adopters also mean you take responsibility and don't whine.

You reason like one of the lawyers. Are you Cutter from that law firm?

Ridiculous. Being a new adopter means two things (at least in this specific case): 1) you are a fan of the iPhone, you have either come to love it through previous versions, or seen it and loved it, Apple has let down a large proportion of these fans. 2) you take the risk of buying into new technology, but you made that risk because you felt that you were getting a "top-notch" product. Sure top-notch doesnt mean perfect, but this signal loss issue is a huge problem.

Being a new adopter means it IS your responsibility to whine, how else will the product maker know what is wrong and be able to produce fixes to the issues in the new product?

This is the way I naturally, comfortably hold my phone:

There's really no other place for my fingers to go. I'm actually surprised anyone can hold the phone at all and NOT have the problem. Note that I'm holding it in my right hand (this is not a "left-handed" issue as some would have you believe), and it's the same way Apple has even demonstrated it in their promotional materials. I don't think I am doing anything unreasonable here.

I don't think you are either.. trust me. I think it's ridiculous that it DOES drop calls by holding it in a certain spot. It does seem to vary by area because at home I can grip it very tightly with my palm completely on the lower left.. Still get 5 bars. I even had my roommate try. Nothing.

At work (where the signal is weaker) I can get it to go down to 2-3 bars.

I'm just saying to try and hold it a little differently for the time being until Apple tries to fix it or announce something. If they don't resolve it within a reasonable amount of time, then do whatever it takes to get something done.

How else do you propose consumers force Apple to admit this is a problem and fix it? I don't like lawyers or CALs either, but if this is what it takes for Apple to fix an obvious flaw, then so be it. Obviously people returning the iPhone and the bad press it's gotten hasn't been enough, or I would think Apple would at least release a "We're working on it" statement to stem the amount of returns.

Have people been returning the iPhone in masses? I haven't seen any articles or evidence of this.

I have unfortunately been part of these things before (CALs), I promise it won't go anywhere near solving the actual problem. I think if you talk to anyone who has done this before (except the lawyers), you will get the same response. It is a pipe dream at best.

Chew on this:

Millions of people (myself included) have been complaining about AT&T for 3+ years, and yet Apple is sticking with them. If we found some way to sue them, and won, all we would accomplish is a big chunk of money from Apple's profits, dispersed among millions- probably yielding about 10 to 15 dollars per person. So basically Apple would be buying my lunch to apologize for not listening to me. Not even to mention the reduction of resources from Apple that could have been used buy out the contract they have with AT&T (wishful thinking).

I hope that it comes out that this is actually due to something AT&T has done to try and "improve" their network.

Now I am sure Apple is working on something to appease the masses who have reception issues. Probably won't happen as quickly as people would like for it to (like immediately), but it will hopefully be a well constructed solution when it is released.

not a hard decision,

If you are unhappy with the phone take it back!!!!! WOW I have had my phone since day 1 and NEVER had a problem making calls with or without my case on. Apple will fix this they really can't afford not to.

otherwise get a case! what next people are going to complain that their screen broke because the phone was "accidently" dropped

what a bunch of douche bags!!

Lawyers suck, these people suck, and anyone who falls for this scam sucks, I love my iPhone 4, this is stupid and is exactly what is ruining our society in the United States.

I don't think it's as much standing up for Apple as it is flaming the lawyers.

That would be true, and i'm no fan of frivolous lawsuits, I have opted out of every CAL I have been involved in. They are attacking the very people who support apple and keep them in business.

My company is even recommending no one purchase the iPhone 4 because of this issue. It is VERY real to some of us, and to those saying "Just return it" that is not so easy to some people, especially those who had to jump thru hoops to get plans and data worked out.

I tired exchanging but they had no phones left (in 32GB) to exchange

What's really interesting is how much of this is really reception issues directly related to the antenna? I don't doubt that there are issues with reception in the antennas, but I know for a fact that where I live, the bars can range from 1 to 5 bars just sitting there on my desk by itself. Then there are times I have 5 full bars all day when I am at home. I can pick up the phone with the death grip and I don't get the reception issues. At times I can. Weird. I always give a margin error of two bars due to natural fluctuations where I tend to be.

engadget had a story over the weekend where some professor on europe said he predicted this weeks ago. supposedly nokia tried a similar antennal configuration years ago and had the same problems and trashed the idea. and that the only reason apple is doing the external antenna is because nokia has patents on antenna configurations that they didn't want to pay.

wouldn't be surprised if apple knew all this and it's the reason they sold the bumpers in the first place. it's all going to come out in discovery unless apple settles

Works On Contingency? No! Money Down!

I think I am one of the few people who finds this hilarious and actually gets the joke. (Simpsons ftw).

As for those becoming part of this lawsuit, you are all idiots. You will get next to nothing out of it, lawyers will make a crap load of money, and it will only impact the consumers in the end. Well played.

Early adopters don't deserve to get sub-standard product - this isn't the iPhone 1, it's the iPhone 4, it should work correctly or they should sell product to early adopters for half price if it's not going to work eh? If I buy a new car I expect it to do it's primary job well - I don't expect it to grind to a halt 100 yards down the road after I get in the driver's seat but have a great radio and aircon. That's not good enough. The iPhone always had a crap camera compared to the competition but we didn't care much - now it can't reliably make calls, that my friend is a flaw in the design that goes beyond what is acceptable in a "phone".

Steve Jobs has never said there is "no issue". He has used the words "non-issue" but that is completely different.

One of the stories on the front page of macrumors right now is a reply from Jobs which states.

"There is no reception issue. Stay tuned"

So yes he explicitly stated that there is "no reception issue".

So what were you saying?

hate to be a d**krider, but that's exactly it

We're still within the time period where a consumer can simply return the device. Also, it's well within a reasonable period of time for a manufacturer to identify the problem, and formulate a response.

So basically there is no grounds for a lawsuit at this point in time.
