Apple is business, if the iPad mini was a massive seller, Apple would keep it updated. It appears Apples cost resources verses profits are just not large enough to keep the mini from being a niche product. The mini is cool, but my Interest In the mini went away when the iPhone X dropped the home button. I don‘t normally buy backwards tech like Apple has let the ipad mini become. Just look at the time gap between mini 4 and 5.

For those who want pro mini. What is the usages you see for the mini that also use full performance of A14X?

Note pad? well any iPad will do
Video /photo editing? You probably very soon wants a larger screen.
Reading books: any iPad will do
Games: possible use case for portable gaming but it is an expensive solution.
Note pad: I like small notebooks as well, so the mini would mimic my preference for taking notes with a Pencil 2 (a FAR superior design that requires the flat bezels of the Pro/Air design)
Video/Photo editing: You are for sure correct on this one, the largest screen possible for any editing!
Reading: I get far less fatigue reading on the Mini than my 11in (though, for regular books, I have a Kindle because that REALLY reads nice). I find the Mini to be perfect for reading comic books because I can lay down and read with it. I'd be afraid to drop my larger iPad on my head as my arms get fatigued.
Games: For iOS gaming, I have found the Mini to be easier to handle with how these controls typically lay out. I've found that since upgrading from my Mini to the 11in Pro, I have done almost no gaming on it compared to what I did on my mini. But honestly, IMO, iOS games are just to pass short spouts of time whereas if I was going to really sit down and play games it would be on a Switch or Playstation.

So really, for your examples, I don't need a Pro processor, I really just want the Pro/Air form factor because I would like the full screen real estate and I want the Pencil 2 (I can't believe the Pencil 1 is still around as I loathe it's design). My only desire for the Pro processor would be (in theory) increased iPadOS compatibility for the long term.

Genuine question, what are you going to be able to do on the Pro version of the mini, that is not possible now?
Nothing functionally, but being able to fit it into my cargo short pockets are a huge +++ in not needing to carry around a bag. Form factor has always been my favorite out of all of the iPads, but the full screen was enough of an appeal to upgrade To the 11”’. If there is a mini pro, ill definitely replace it, but Im still hesitant that one will really come.

The iPhone SE we got was not the iPhone SE we wanted. I mean it stayed true to the original SE in the sense that it was again new hardware in an old chassis but what people really wanted was a smaller device, ideally with thinner bezels and a more industrial design, not a discounted iPhone 8 with more performance (performance SE owners hardly care for for the most part).

What people wanted was a more affordable iPhone 12 mini with downgraded hardware/features. Maybe there will be another iPhone SE that is just that in a few years.

I know the idea behind the original iPhone SE was to be able to recycle old manufacturing lines by keeping an old chassis and putting new hardware into it and keeping the price down that way, but that’s not what consumers wanted from a new SE.

No the small whinging minority wanted another SE like the OG SE

and secondly the fact that 12 Mini didn’t sell well as Apple had hoped it will is more proof that the majority want bigger phones but definitely not another OG SE

Breaking news! I also have a leaked dummy unit of the iPhone 13 Pro!

Looks more like the iPod touch pro 2022 😂😂😂

"They just want small" without any legitimate reason. Same with the iPhone mini. Which is why Apple resisted making it for years, and now regrets having made it.
How many Mini's have you owned? As someone who has owned 3, "they just want small without any legitimate reason" is arrogant to say. I have a 12.9 iPad Pro, 10.2 iPad, and a Mini 5 currently and my Mini 5 gets the most usage because it does what I need that the others cannot.

Because Apple doesn't care what 10 people on a website blog want. They care about what the market will buy. And the market won't buy a 7.9" iPad for $700+
Of course. Who wants that?

What we want is a 8" edge to edge Mini that still sells for the $400 price point.

What i DON'T want as a Mini owner is another dated design where my current Mini already does.

The supposed "mini 6" looks exactly the same as the 5 to my eye, while it's meant to have somewhat reduced bezels (I speculate an IMAX 1.43:1 aspect ratio the same as the iPad Pro 11" given the amount of extra top and bottom bezel space there is). The others also look the same though that's fully expected. So either the rumours about the mini 6 were wrong and it is just a chip bump in the same design, or these are just dummy units of the existing models.

I take it that you've never owned a Mini before..

I don't think people necessarily want a Mini Pro for the Pro chip. We want the edge-to-edge screen which would help it be a better note pad, better book reader, and better gaming system. No one purchases a Mini for video/photo editing purposes. We purchase Mini's because it's the best compromise between a Phone and larger iPad for consumption.
Not a mini no so that was why I was curious. We have nearly everything else terms on iPad sizes from. My family also consume a lot but it is science and schools stuff (well and movies and games after hours ). The preferred size is 12.9 because of good multitasking.

I can see the point of the mini in the Air format but not really in the pro format with the associated high price tag.

That you for the response. One of the few times my 12.9 is too large is when reading in bed. Yes an Air mini makes sense.

They can make a mini sized iPad Pro but it would NOT sell like hot cakes.

Most people don't understand who the target market is for the iPad Mini. Hint: it's NOT the general consumer.
BINGO! iPad mini sells best into vertical markets where the cost is low, the size is adequate and even more desirable, the form factor is the same as the mini 4, the same peripherals and cases work, the usage is business apps, POS terminals, et al. Basically, those vertical markets forced Apple to release a mini 5, while Apple wanted to quietly bin the mini.

An iPad Pro mini will go over like a lead balloon, except with a few of the self-proclaimed “product experts” here on MacRumors.

An iPad Pro mini would end up at $499 minimum, probably $549. Everybody here is going to complain about price and I (not Apple) want to listen to it for the next 1-2 years, so this is what you get, take it or leave it.

As for myself, if it’s sporting an A14, I’m taking it as my mini 4 has really slowed down under iPadOS 14.

Just a small reminder that dummies always look horrible (cfr. iPhone X panel leak and renders). Let Apple Marcom do its magic and convice you that buying a mini that looks the exact same is actually not a bad idea :p
