Apple's warranty already excludes software issues. As do the warranties of pretty much every computer hardware manufacturer in the world. I think what the previous commenter was talking about was Apple not offering support for sideloaded apps, which really also wouldn't be any kind of change, because they already offer no support for apps installed from the app store.

Apple offers “support” at the App money collection phase…and that’s about where it ends

I doubt they will make a serperate operating systems just for the EU since that would cost Apple more money and could delay critcal security updates if a zero day vulnerability is discovered in the wild.
Sure not, simply because the same will come to the USA by bipartisan bill and following antitrust lawsuits, it’s inevitable in the US too, and the naysayers will riot once it happens and i will LMAO. ?

If Apple excludes problems with their own operating system software that would be illegal under the magnason moss warranty act since you can not use the device without iOS/iPADOS working.

Because they fit in your pocket and connect to cell networks.
If you can’t do real work on a phone, only communicate why can’t people concerned about running apps, messaging, web surfing use a small laptop, using the phone just as a phone, for texting and hotspot for the laptop. Yes I am focusing on this overly focus on smartphones limitations and the resulting complaints. This is the end result of trying to make a smartphone try to mimic more capable devices.

The EU is messing with fire. If this crazy nonsense keeps up, Apple will likely spin out its EU business, and then create a exclusive supplier agreement with the new business to capture a similar amount of profits while also minimizing the larger companies liabilities.

Then, other companies recognizing how protectionist and bat crazy they EU is will also follow similar structures and the EU will just end up directly facing even more anti-privacy Chinese goods, services, spying and control. Good luck to them.

Funny, I have clients with entire warehouses managed by staff using smartphones every day. Sure, it's not Photoshop, but I'm pretty sure that maintaining inventory levels, shipping, receiving, and manufacturing in a warehouse that contains tens of millions of dollars of inventory counts as "real work".

Agreed, but tech is a good place to start. Google, Facebook, Microsoft, Apple, and other large conglomerates have flaunted their influence before. As much as I don't like government overreach, corporate overreach is no good either.
This is where I'm at — I think it'd be better for all involved if the companies had regulated themselves in order to stave off government regulation. They have, for years now, declined to do so, and so now governments feel compelled to fix these issues for them.

Much like how we now have to deal with cookie banners on most international websites, the government's solution will almost definitely be (much) worse than if these companies had made targeted but meaningful concessions along the way. For example, instead of Apple choosing specifically which concessions they're willing to make on iOS such that the concerns of all parties involved are reasonably dealt with, the government must take a one-size-fits-all approach for both iOS and Android regarding installing non-App Store/-Play Store software and alternative in-app payment systems. That'll be just fascinating.

I'm sure the lawmakers never thought of that and will now update the text accordingly. You probably just ruined Apple's plan. For shame.

Because security by obscurity only works when you actually have obscurity.
The security by obscurity argument is already debunked since Mac OS X already allows side loading and you are not hearing about how Macs are constantly being compromised due to their poor security. It is Apple wanting to maintain their monopoly power over users purchased devices.

The only thing we're seeing the result of is what happens when a manufacturer adds artificial limitations to their products.

If they force Apple to do this, I hope Apple releases 2 different versions of iOS we can choose from… A good, safe, normal version that we already have or a version that allows sideloading, but also forces ads and makes your have to register you details numerous times with the different app stores and doesn’t allow hide my email..etc…!

No worry, this will come to the US, too.
Apple will fight for their greed, it’s their right to fight for nonsense, but they will soon reach a point where they will have to shut their mouth in the US and in the rest of the world, too.

Competition is far more important for the whole economy of a country than the greed of a company, specially one that does not pay the tax they should, this free ride will end soon enough, too.

Is there no one else out there that is just OK with this? Not thrilled, not sad, not mad, but OK?

It's OK to be OK, people - we don't have to tear each other down over this.

Yup, big tech dug their own grave on this one.

Valid point, I just like for the tech industry to me less vulnerable to whims of the EU, so that you could do precisely what you mentioned, but not have Apple and Google having to placate government servants of other countries seeking ownership of technology they had no role in its creation. That was the basis of using computers over phones when you start to see this EU activity happen.

They are not since it would cost too much money and time. In addition once Apple has the ability to allow side loading in the EU it is only a matter of time before other countries force the issue.

Spot on.

The EU is a joke. The smartest move Apple could possibly make, is totally abandon the EU, we don’t need them and they’re nothing but a problem that doesn’t grasp basic concepts.
