1. They already have the 4in Architecture down pat with the 5S they just need to add in the NFC chip for Apple pay. Doing this will save them money and increase margins big time because the phone still will be highly priced.

There's no reason the A7 is cheaper to produce than the A8. In fact, due to smaller die size, the A8 may well be cheaper to produce.

2. Redesigning the 6 to fit in a 4in chassis is not cost effective at this point. Again, it's all about the money.

It's a new design either way, whichever chip you use. And if you're doing a new design, might as well use the A8 so you don't have to redesign it again next year.

Using an existing Fab line (meaning not retooling a plant that was already producing the A7) is going to be cheaper....

What really is interesting is what will happen next year when there is no 4" phone for the 'c' model to replace. 5 = 5c, 5s = 6c, what will be the 7c? Will Apple just keep a 4 inch model and re-engineer the internals of an iPhone 6 to fit inside the 7c?

I've said it before and still believe a 4 inch model with the same chassis as the 6\6+ would imo make things less confusing. Of course taking into the account that the 4 inch model would be slightly underpowered as I'm not sure the apple engineers are capable of having the internals of a 6 within a 4 inch model.

Nevertheless the 5s is still an extremely solid phone even by today's standards.

This will be beneficial for Apple to release a 6c Iphone designated with the same 6 as they can gain new customers and take home Androids as was done with the 6 and 6 more.

After too, they can stop the manufacturing 5c or 6c as they Ipod classic.

They'll be reusing the existing A8 production line. Remember, the premium iPhones will have already moved on to the A9 by this point.

I'd say whichever chip the new Apple TV ends up using will very likely be what the 6c gets.

I'd say whichever chip the new Apple TV ends up using will almost certainly be what the 6c gets.

You're probably right on the first.

On the second however, I think we're gonna see an A8X special variant with the new GPU for console quality graphics out of the Apple TV: The 512 core PowerVR GT7900. It's very clear from their patents, the METAL api, etc. that apple is gearing up to make the TV a gaming system as well.

So it's basically 5S in a 5C-casing and the name it 6C? Very unimaginative. At least reduce thickness and please also bezels. Then it will be a true iPhone mini.

no...like the 6c being the same cost as the 5s

The 6c is coming out a year later (along side the iPhone6S instead of the iPhone6) so the cost should even with the 2 year old 5s.
Except that they won't sell the 5s and and a 5s in a plastic shell (what most people think the 6c will be) in parallel.

iPhone 5cs.

I see "C" stands for "CRAP"

It looks like I will use my iPhone5S for many years, and after that most likely turn away from Apple. So sad... :(

Presumably you picked the iPhone 5S because you liked the combination of iOS features, optimisation and apps, the great camera and build quality, and features like Touch ID?

...and now a .7" increase in screen size is enough to make you turn away from all those features? Despite new features like Apple Pay? For which phone exactly?

Samsung, HTC, Motorola, Nexus all have flagships with large screens. Their smaller phones have less power, like the iPhone 6C is rumoured to have...

Of course I picked iPhone 5S for new hardware and all new stuff, but I really don't need Touch ID. Not sure there is Apple Pay in UK, so I don't worry about it.
I used to use android crap and I really don't want to go back. There is NO any real rival.
For a MOBILE device additional .7" to screen size is way too much. If I spent 100% of my time indoors I wouldn't bother about screen size, but I go outside daily and take my iPhone with me, so even 4" is a bit too much to carry it safely in the belt pouch. This why I don't want that big thin snow shovel. I also don't want an ugly plastic crap even if it has 4" screen.

Pefect for Entry Level, Gift Giving and Budget.

This C Version is without a doubt the metaphoric worm on the hook, I strongly think the C Version will draw people into the remaining product line. Starting with Mobile then upward; Good for apple.:apple:

Some of you seem so convinced the 6C has 5S specs, even though no official information about it has been released.

When this comes out, don't you think a lot of people looking to upgrade to a 4-inch iPhone 6 model will already be 5, 5C and 5S owners? I'm more inclined to believe it'll have the 6's processor and camera + Apple Pay support, of course.

I would never want one of these color/material versions but as of June '14, they had sold 24 million iPhone 5c's so there is definitely a market for it.

The single target population for this thing are dumb US teenagers (Sorry...) who actually believe that this phone comes for free. Any OUS customer who pays for an unlocked phone will pass - as before. If they want it to take off with this huge population, they'll have to price it <<400 USD/EUR/CHF (with 16 or better 32 Go).

I'd be very surprised if Apple released a 4" iPhone with the 6 moniker attached to it.

If anything, the 5s will stay behind as the 4" option (just like the 4s did for the 3.5" option when the 5s was first released).

The 6 of today will get wrapped in plastic and dubbed 6C. I doubt there will be a 6C plus, but I could be wrong on that.

The 6s will be released alongside a 6s Plus in enclosures resembling today's 6 and 6 Plus but with subtle improvements to the design - and of course new and improved features outside and in.

I'd be very surprised to see Apple release a phone named the 6c that has 5s internals (A7, camera). 4" screen is fine. 16GB is fine (not really, but that's what it will be - and the 6s better be 32GB and up). Apple Pay is a must.

I think there will be plenty of A8 capacity once the A9's go to the 6s, especially since the A9's are primarily from Samsung while the A8's are TSMC.

Not the person you're addressing, but...given that I came from Android and found even the 4.3" phones to be too big, yeah, 4.7" is unquestionably too big for me. The only reason I got an iphone was that Apple was the only one making a 4" flagship.

I don't know what phone I'd go with, just that it'd be the best phone I could get at 4". That might still be Apple, it might not. Who knows what will be available when my 5s dies (hopefully that won't be for a long time).

I love the 5C but want to have state of the art components inside for the 6C!

A9, 2GB RAM LPDDR4, LTE6, etc...

Sick of being second class citizen with the polycarbonate case; Apple needs step for us who like the 5C design.

I own a 5C and it not crap; but maybe your are "crap" for offering this opinion??

I hightly doubt its just a 5S in plastic. The reason being is that the 5S is already the old phone, so it/ the6C would slot into thr baseline position, and thus would only last a year.. Would apple really design a new phone that would only last a year? The 5C had the mid tier model specs so it lasted two years.

I would think about going to a Sony phone (i believe they have a 4.2 inch offering) if there's no viable 4 inch upgrade past the 5S. The iPhone wil be dead to me once I can't hold it one handed.

Thankyou. Make a 4 inch model of the 6S. Problem solved.
