Structurally, I don't see how attaching the battery to the back of the base via a latch could be better than having a space/cavity for a battery to be inserted. It would make the base weaker.

I hope this isn't the design of the base.

Same old...

After 8 years of the same design, I expect more. I won't be updating my MBP just for a replaceable hard drive. I've already swapped out the old ones twice. It's really not that hard. I want apple to be more aggressive with their design this time around. Having said that, my MBP is pretty perfect. Which is why I want a more aggressive case...or at least quad core MBP. Then they will get my money.

Probably the new MacBook, not MBP. Those plastic things are out and aluminum is in. Did you know that aluminum is found abundantly in the brains of people with Alzheimer's disease. Just saying.

I'd say the outside won't be the big change. The exterior design of the pro is just too pretty really; one of those "if it ain't broke don't fix it" things. I'm betting the big change will be the keyboard and perhaps the trackpad, but I'd say we won't be seeing those leaks. ;)

Cool I'll just need to open a company seeling a keyboard cover for current MBP so that it makes it look like the new keyboard generation and protect it at the same time :)

They say it is from the soda cans we are all addicted to.

I guess the difference is the battery shape and size, and the ability to swap hard drives. The keyboard will be the same as the MacBook/Air, and I'd assume the case will be slimmer at the trackpad and fatter at the battery end.

The Apple logo will be illuminated - it has the holes in the Apple logo to let light from the backlight through. It is just missing the stained plastic.

Relocating the battery to the rear means no more toasty legs while using the MBP on the lap and lower operating temperatures (battery is closer to the vents at the rear) :)

I couldn't tell from the above photo - is the battery & hard drive compartment at the rear or the front (the image doesn't indicate which side is the front).

If they are moved to the back, that would be interesting. The weight of these is usually put to the front of the laptop to prevent it from tipping over backwards (and off peoples' laps). If the weight is now at the back, that would indicate there's something heavy at the front to counter it - how heavy is a Bluray burner? ;)

But as I said, I don't think it shows which is the front or rear.

No kidding! The crap will hit the fan when the MBP gets the Air style keyboard. People will be complaining out of every orifice they have... Having used both, though, I like them about the same really. But apparently I am in a minority there.

Montevina's official release date is July 15th, hopefully the rumors will start flying off the shelf then, especially since everyones NDA with Intel will be over.

Yay! So maybe no more whiners complaining about all the iPhone news!!! :p

And yes, it is really exciting that a new pro might be coming out! I'm looking to buy in a few months or so, bring it on!

Seriously??? Its the top and bottom of the shell, not the insides...

Laughing... you beat me to it :D

Blu-ray's not happening.

perhaps not, but i would hope so.

I did my first hard drive swap on a macbook recently and it was an absolute pleasure after already having done it on my own MBP. Sure, the MBP wasn't too hard for me, but as soon as cables, glue, and voided warranties are mentioned people tend to start running :)

brilliant, when i want to preserve battery life, now the bottom will get scraped... pity that!

also, i dont see much evidence of ports, suggesting a 3 part enclosure... interesting!

also, do we think this is 13"/15"/17" ?

Maybe the 3 holes in the apple and the 1 on the apple 'leaf' will signal you stuff like traffic lights, got mail type of thing...;)

I know I should not say this.... What the hell. I have a contact at Intel who is very happy about a new announcement about a new design for Apple. I hope he's right or I am going to look like a moron. :p

i've been quite happy in PPC land so i'm a bit ignorant to what new features have been updated for the MacBook Pro but wasn't this a feature since the first MacBook?

Yes, but not the macbook pro

If you ever looked at trying to replace the HDD in a mbp you will see why this is great!

i bet he was talking about the Air

I personally would love to see the MBP get the macbook/air keyboard as long as it isn't black. Keep it silver or even white would be ok.
