Seems like a pretty logical update, case looks slick and with a multi-touch trackpad this will be great. I am guessing we will see these be announced along with a tweaked design of the macbooks in Paris august 2008.

The shape looks more like a regular MacBook than a MacBook Pro. If I shelled out more than $2k for a Pro system, I wouldn't want something that looked like that.

Good news I guess. Definitely time for a redesign. If only the prices would be lowered...

Anyone taking bets for release month? :p

This is very cool. Although I'll be getting a macbook, so I hope I don't end up liking the MBP even more!

What this means for me, though, is that with this MBP, there will also be a new MB. I can't wait to see them both. And I hope it's sooner than later.

I really can't tell what the final product is going to look like, but overall it looks really nice. I hope they use a black keyboard for it, similar to the air - it looks so good.

A lighter MacBook Pro with a bigger battery would be great! Looks like this battery design more closely resembles that of the MacBook. I wonder if this is even a MacBook Pro at all. It could be the long rumored aluminum MacBook.

I think you could be right! Can anyone compare the apple logo to the overall size of this case?

You can't replace the HDD yourself and break something and expect the warranty to cover it.

You can replace the HDD without voiding the warranty.

Really? I mean, of course it voids the HDD warranty, but I though it voided the entire warranty since you have to open up the entire case.

If this is true then what's the big deal about the warranty with the MBP? You void the HDD warranty when you change out the macbooks HDD, so really then they are no different, right? Is it just the hassle that get everyone worried about it? Sorry, I've not actually owned a MBP myself, so I always just assumed "voiding the warranty" meant the whole darn thing... :D

there is no need for substantial change in MBP. In fact, how can you actually better that design other than functional design change such as accessible HD, bigger mousepad and maybe MB style keyboard (although I love MBP keyboard too)?

The only possible substantial exterior change could have been color change (such as black or gray aluminum rather than silver) but I am perfectly content with the alleged change.

now with MB, I would love to see aluminum casing too. Aluminum casing like MBP makes the whole thing look very luxurious. There is a reason every single TV commercial which features laptop is always MBP. The design is as good as it gets.

somebody in the other thread said it looked like a 15", comparatively speaking.

UGH, can it just happen now? This is killing me. I've been checking this board like 50 times a day.

All that said, it's just part of the shell. It's still hard to tell what it'll actually look like. And what'll be in it? That's the key. And of course, we haven't seen any MB details yet.

I think that's an aluminum macbook. One small detail, look at the feet holes, they are bigger like the ones on the macbook, vs the small feet on a macbook pro. Yes, they could change the feet on a new macbook pro, who knows.

that dude wanted to see more pictures. Bro... easy on him.

by the way..... it's about time. update in Nov? What do you think weather man.

I know, I'm kidding. November?! As if!... And I say that because I want one before I go off to Ireland on the 16th of August with my school. I'll actually need to buy at the end of July, but I'd put the Montevina MacBook Pro (MacBook, too?) release at the middle to end of August. Hopefully we see it a little sooner, but I don't have my hopes up.

Not a very exciting design, after all this time.

That's actually a good thing. If you like an "exiting" design you can buy an alienware Laptop. They have cool alien-like shapes on their lids which you'll love to look at for the next say 5 years.
I for my part like to keep my mind uncluttered by working on a perfectly neutreal device.

This has been discussed countless number of times.

Changing it doesn't void it.
Breaking something while changing it does void it.
If you have to take it in, put the original back in so they can't blame it on your new HDD.

Structurally, I don't see how attaching the battery to the back of the base via a latch could be better than having a space/cavity for a battery to be inserted. It would make the base weaker.

I hope this isn't the design of the base.

Dell laptops have been using a battery that sits at the front for the last few design revisions. They also utilize this layout to offer a battery that provides a palm-rest for the user. On the downside, i've seen this result in some major damage to the batteries. I have never seen the laptop itself get damaged though. They use plenty of plastic to make the battery very secure to the structure. The battery even provides the front rubber feet for the system.

I'm still thinking/hoping August/September.

Although sooner is always welcomed. If it were late July, then I could buy in August/Sept anyways, hopefully with some bugs fixed, eh?

"People familiar with the ongoing development of the new 15- and 17-inch professional notebooks are now confirming that an image of an unfamiliar and deconstructed Apple notebook enclsoure published by a Chinese blog on Saturday is in fact that of an authentic next-generation 15-inch MacBook Pro shell." -- AppleInsider post

Whether thats correct or not...dunno

alright weather man...

i really think. i mean really... they will release something before the back to school promotion. Tell me if i am wrong.

so, wait... Montevina mobile processors are coming before the desktops?

Oh the back to school sale ends Sept. 15. Thats why I'm saying October will be the release month, as I doubt Apple will release it during the sale. Also maybe late Sept

I hope it's not a detachable battery like other laptops have - they get loose and give the machine a very unstable feel. The best thing about Apple notebooks is the 'one piece' feel - the lack of little doors and hinges or rubber bungs, that make the whole thing much more solid. The current MacBooks, for example, have a very solid feel, where it appears like the everything, including the keyboard, is one lump of good-looking laptop. Feels sturdy.

The MacBookAir is an exception (with the door covering the USB port), and I'm irritated by that part of its design. The MacBook Pro's keyboard has the same multiple-pieces feel, and that's why it needs a change.

You can replace the HDD without voiding the warranty.

I have changed the HDD on several models (iMac G5/Intel, MBP SR, MB) and its quite easy to change, just be carful when doing it as with any electronic device.

Why would you ask an Apple Tech to do it for an absurd fee, its easy and can be done quickly, sure the first time is nerve racking however you get over it. People either have too much disposable income or think its brain surgery, and no it my warranty did not get void since I did not break anything while doing the replacement. :)
