Man oh man, if Apple came out with an aluminum macbook I would go out and grab one for every member of my family. However, I don't think Apple would release an aluminum macbook - they know it would jeopardize the sales of the Macbook Pro. Too many people go ahead and buy the MBP just because they want the aluminum enclosure and not the plastic of the Macbook.

Just look, Apple came out with the Air and it has a premium price tag. I guess look at it this way. Apple's macbook air is their mindranged (as far is price is concerned) notebook that fills in the gap for their product line. What Apple needs to do now is make a "Mac Pro Air" and I think everyone is going to be very very happy! :D

I have changed the HDD on several models (iMac G5/Intel, MBP SR, MB) and its quite easy to change, just be carful when doing it as with any electronic device.

Why would you ask an Apple Tech to do it for an absurd fee, its easy and can be done quickly, sure the first time is nerve racking however you get over it. People either have too much disposable income or think its brain surgery, and no it my warranty did not get void since I did not break anything while doing the replacement. :)

Yeah, I've replaced my HDD on my MBP too, but the point is that there are folks who do not feel confident enough to do it themselves. A case allowing anyone to do this would be welcome.

Oh the back to school sale ends Sept. 15. Thats why I'm saying October will be the release month, as I doubt Apple will release it during the sale. Also maybe late Sept

the UK back to school promo usaly ends some were in the middle of october

I will guarantee that there will be people who mess it up, look at the FireWire and USB port deformations. I thought that was straightforward, apparently not. Evolution where art thou. ;):)

If this is coming out soon, it will be after the back to school sale. It wouldn't make sense to release it now if they are clearing stock by offering the touch for free.

Aside from the iPhone (which is plastic for a very good reason) it appears as if Apple is moving towards Aluminium for the majority of their products. Both the iPod line and iMac line switched and it now appears as if the MB will too. All of the rumours that have been circulating for the past year if not more seem to suggest it too...

Hmm..K My prediction is still October..the end of it! lol Yeah..I just assumed that Apple based its schedule off of America's back to school sale, could be entirely wrong.

making my day

I love all the MBP talk. The complaining, the hopes and dreams, and the speculation.

I love mine. Its my 3rd (titanium, PB, and MBP) and when this one creeps into its 3rd year, it will be replace like its older siblings before.

If you are debating, don't. If you need it, get it. You will never be disappointed. Its design is timeless.

I hope that's true that you can FINALLY replace the hard drive. If so, and especially if they (finally) add Blu Ray, this'll probably be my next laptop.

Good news I guess. Definitely time for a redesign. If only the prices would be lowered...

Anyone taking bets for release month? :p

If I had to guess I would say the release would be September /October since that seems to be the time line they have stuck with in the past.

A lighter MacBook Pro with a bigger battery would be great! Looks like this battery design more closely resembles that of the MacBook. I wonder if this is even a MacBook Pro at all. It could be the long rumored aluminum MacBook.

man, i hope not. the aluminum directly and negatively affects the wireless signal strength. same reason i'm glad for plastic iphone 3G, i'm anti aluminum macbook!!

It's hard to see by just looking at these aspects, but I do hope for a bit of liposuction, and for the love of God please keep the current mouse button - I still cannot figure out the advantage of the MBA's.

when Nahelem comes out and has this new design, I am getting a 17 inch HD and will be set for life. I will then quit my macrumors addiction cold turkey:p

built-in eSATA (with port multiplier support) is the change I'm hoping will show in a redesigned case. that will be a big step toward making this really a "pro" machine - fast access to large external storage.

Air - Pro or consumer?

On a slightly related topic, is the Macbook Air considered part of the Pro or consumer ("i") product line?

12.x" MBP?

I have been hearing rumors of the 12.x" Widescreen MBP for quite some time now. Supposedly, it was supposed to have come out late last year, but they pushed it back to wait for the next-gen processor to help with heat and battery life. Could this be the Montevina line that is coming out at the end of this month? You never know!!

Personally, I think that an MBP that is the size of (or smaller) than a Macbook would be great. I was trying to decide between the MBP and the MB, and the primary thing that I was worried about was the portability. I HAVE to have a very portable computer- I am usually in 5-10 different offices and locations every day and need a computer that will keep up, stay on, and be instantly accessible. I ended up going with the Macbook, mainly because of the 2lb difference in weight, and the form factor.

A smaller MBP would definitely appeal to 'portable' business owners like me. It would have to combine the performance of an MBP with the portability of the MB. The Air simply does not cut it. It is, well, kind of like trying to sustain yourself with nothing but Air. A DVDRW drive is a must, as well as peripheral connections.

I am not sure what this case design represents, but I have my fingers crossed that it will be the 12.x" MBP. As far as a release date, it won't be earlier than October, and no later than February. Around February is when the iPhone Mini/Nano is expected, and I doubt that they would collide the releases like that. Then again, it could be the 'spring of miniatures'!

It won't be any earlier than October, as they are going to wait for Intel's processors to stabilize prior to releasing them en'masse.
