listen to him when he talked about the MBA - something along the lines of "you wont need dvd drive, because you get all ur hd content from iTunes", and he continues with something along the lines of "if you really need a optical drive, here's the $99 attachment".
I just noticed that all of the Apple Store refurb 15" MacBook Pro' s are gone. A day before there were 12 of them.
many people have been wondering that also...
As soon as you get 1080p video with uncompressed (I'll settle for lossless) 7.1 audio over the internet let me know.... Until then I am gonna continue wanting BDROM for my Mac.
Because physical media is a dying breed. Apple is definitely moving away from it...i.e. the Air. BlueRay will be the last of the physical media formats. It's not really necessary anymore. Who needs a disk when you have flash drives and wireless networks? The only time I touch a disc anymore is to rip it to my AppleTV. Downloads are the future.
Further evidence of this is the slew of AppleTV like set-top boxes coming out- like Netflix's new piece. Even they know that the discs are dying. Stream it to your tv!
Well, they do have that iPod rebate promotion aiding computer sales right now. They're also going to be selling millions of iPhones. I don't know how those would play into their decision.. I imagine they'll release them when they're done and not sweat over it too much. If that 5 week thing is what I think it is, then the timing will be perfect.
I'm sure it's going to happen sooner than you think. Hell, Verizon's Fios network has 20mb & 50mb connections. It won't be long till you're downloading 1080p in all it's glory. But, by then you'll be wanting 2160p super high def.
Do you really need 1080p with 7.1 on a laptop?
None of the drives currently on the market fit inside the 15" MBP. Assuming the new Apple models are the same thickness or thinner, it just won't fit.Why can't BluRay be an OPTION? Sony and HP already have them as options on some of their laptops.
Why want? Just buy one.Until then I am gonna continue wanting BDROM for my Mac.
That could be a well sign!
APPLE JUST RELEASE THEM ALREADY!
They always do that ...at least on the UK store , trust me I've been watching for weeks and weeks ...they have a load of stock on , then it all 'appears to sell' then low & behold a little while later all back on again , sceptical , yes but have a watch and see 🙂I just noticed that all of the Apple Store refurb 15" MacBook Pro' s are gone. I was just on the Apple site. Am I going nutty or does the "Previous" text under the photo a hint to something new in the next few weeks?

if its made of Aluminum, i won't buy one. i have heard that they dent very easily? also i prefer the white plastic of my MB.

thats putting it pretty nicely.
u need a pretty decent pipe to stream hd content. and i believe the facts say that only 50% of the United States is on broadband

in all honesty, for some users - going out and buying the disc from walmart and bringing it home is a lot faster than downloading the entire movie.
not to mention the obvious benefits of an actual disc in ur hands vs. digital copies
I went on the Refurb site just now, and it changed back to
Apple Certified Refurbished 17-inch MacBook Pro
not previous generation like above.
I don't know why you would want uncompressed 1080p or 7.1. Blu-Ray isn't uncompressed either. If you've ever seen a quality encode of a 1080p movie in an MKV container, you'd know it's pretty good. And you can get file sizes around 8GB or so. With a 10mbit connection, you can download one of these in an hour. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that streaming could be possible, although it's not there yet. And 7.1 is a bunch of hype. 5.1 is fine. How many speakers do you really need??
