I vote MacBook

When you look at the aspect ration of the top of the case, it's more of a 4x3 than 16x9 ratio. Current MacBooks are closer to 4x3.

Haha. Getting all technical with your ratios. When I explained it I said the MBP look more 'rectangular' while the MB looked more 'squarish'. Someone had to point out to me how they're both rectangular (I already knew this.) But I agree with you, it still seems more like a MacBook. The apple doesn't look any bigger to me, so I don't know what they're talking about.

I would love to see the following changes in the next MacBook Pro redesign:

1.) Numerical Keypad
2.) Longer battery life
3.) Dual Hard Dirve for Raid 0 like the dell notebooks "most likely not to happen in order to keep the macbook pro thin.

4.) 6gb or 8gb of ram option
5.) BluRay Drive
6.) Black keyboard with black trim around LED backlit screen
7.) A 20" model... okay just kidding on this one :)

5. i'm going with no.

i hope the new MBP comes with a blu-ray burner and HD iSight

Blu-ray's not happening.

Why can't BluRay be an OPTION? Sony and HP already have them as options on some of their laptops. Is Apple too focused on the iPhone, while getting behind on their computer hardware? Didn't Steve claim 3 years ago that is was the "year of HD"? Please give us the BD option!

I hope this was sarcasm. That leather idea is pretty ridiculous. Save leather for your cases. Besides, every vagan Macfan would suddenly start protesting Apple if they were to implement leather into anything. Where would that leave them?

Ok.....diamond encrusted trim then..

I'm glad I have the current model. I'm not exactly a fan of the tapered designed on the Macbook Air, so I'm happy.

If they're going to make the hard drive easy to access then my next Mac looks like a Macbook Pro. Well once it's refurbished and it's SO MUCH faster then my current MacBook.

Mid-sept is the latest they'll release them, countless student are waiting for Apple to release their Montevina laptops.

There's no way Apple is gonna break it's "~5 weeks after processor release" tradition. Apple's most important computer line are it's portables, why in the hell would they wait till november, leaving all the other PC manufacturers free of their competition?

Because physical media is a dying breed. Apple is definitely moving away from it...i.e. the Air. BlueRay will be the last of the physical media formats. It's not really necessary anymore. Who needs a disk when you have flash drives and wireless networks? The only time I touch a disc anymore is to rip it to my AppleTV. Downloads are the future.

Further evidence of this is the slew of AppleTV like set-top boxes coming out- like Netflix's new piece. Even they know that the discs are dying. Stream it to your tv!

New Placement of Speakers?

If the battery is going at the back then surely the speakers of the current design will have to be moved elsewhere? Or will they still be able to stay where they are currently located?

Well, they do have that iPod rebate promotion aiding computer sales right now. They're also going to be selling millions of iPhones. I don't know how those would play into their decision.. I imagine they'll release them when they're done and not sweat over it too much. If that 5 week thing is what I think it is, then the timing will be perfect.

I really hope that Apple will think twice about using that terrible MacBook keyboard in the new MBP. If this happens, I would need to find some other manufacturer. Because I really hate the new keyboard, if one keyboard causes RSI symptoms then it's that new alu/macbook keyboard.

They can change everything, make it pink or whatever, as long they don't replace the keyboard!

Maybe I should get a Lenova then :( That would be a sad day.

I think the battery will be in the front. It requires less redesigning. I don't see them wanting to restructure all of the internals, when they fit relatively nice right now.

Can you stream quality like Blu-ray though?

Because to me, the quality is definitely worth the disc. If not in a laptop, at least otherwise.

Holes in the Apple logo

The three holes look like holes that would be used to index the lid on a die during stamping and trimming. The last step would be to punch out the Apple logo after the indexing holes are no longer needed.

As soon as you get 1080p video with uncompressed (I'll settle for lossless) 7.1 audio over the internet let me know.... Until then I am gonna continue wanting BDROM for my Mac.

Yeah, let's put out a new MPB (with the glowing logo, for god's sake) and I'll consider replacing my beloved, but aging, Aluminium PowerBook (best design ever, so I don't care if it remains very similar).

I'm also in favour of a Blu-ray drive.
And yes you can stream HD content providing sufficient bandwidth.

just because other OEM's do it, doesnt mean Apple has to follow. u know that.

i personally wouldn't mind a bluray drive in the new MBPs, but its not a necessity.

im going to guess "no" - that apple will not go with a bluray player, simply because Stevie believes optical media is dead, and digital distribution is the way to go (iTunes).

listen to him when he talked about the MBA - something along the lines of "you wont need dvd drive, because you get all ur hd content from iTunes", and he continues with something along the lines of "if you really need a optical drive, here's the $99 attachment".

thats putting it pretty nicely.

u need a pretty decent pipe to stream hd content. and i believe the facts say that only 50% of the United States is on broadband

in all honesty, for some users - going out and buying the disc from walmart and bringing it home is a lot faster than downloading the entire movie.

not to mention the obvious benefits of an actual disc in ur hands vs. digital copies
