If it has landscape tilt, I wonder if accelerometer games will come out for it?

Not sure why would it be silly to put touch screen on ipod nano.
They already have touch screen watches. And they don't consume that much power. It would sell like crazy.

If this was the real deal, wouldn't Apple have yanked it down by now? When the fat iPods were leaked on another website for a moment, they were yanked down in hours. I think Apple goes through great lengths to keep things secret. I wouldn't expect to see a real leak until closer to the date.

Because doing that would essentially be a confirmation that it's real.

It's not about power, it because the Nano/Classic and the touch iPods serve different purposes. The former it just music/video/photos and the current interface works. The latter is media device hence the touch screen.

just music/video/photos and the current interface works

Companies who had that kind of mindset "if it works don't change it" like Motorola with their cell phone product line got kicked really bad. Last I heard Motorola was dropping their cell division or selling it off. Wonder why?
Oh yeah, they don't have simple and cool features that others do.

Back to Hard Drive?

Is it possible that this generation of nanos will take the low end iPods back to the hard drive set up instead of it's current flash drive set up? Like the iPod minis?

No way. Nano's were specifically designed with no moving components and compact design for sports activities to withstand high impacts and constant motions.

I would be more logical to phase out the ipod classic and introduce hard drive based models carried over to iPod touch.

I would surmise that two streams will develop in this product line.
- iPod touch with solid state memory that's ultra thin
- iPod touch with small solid state base memory like 1GB or so and a massive data storage hard drive resulting in a form factor thats thinker in design.

turn it on

if all of these pictures are real, why hasn't there been pictures or videos with the iPod turned on?

I like it .

The curved design is a great evolution while retaining the traditional look that symbolizes the iPod brand.

Let's Rokr

I've been repeatedly saying this, but the clickwheel design just makes no sense on these pictures. Apple would not release a product that's half-assed on design, so that's giveaway number one. The 2nd photo (the green one) makes little sense to me because I think Apple is shifting their new iPods (correct me if im wrong) with the smaller/shorter USB connector (the end that docks into the iPod), which has been shipping with the iPhone. The newer USB connector is smaller and serves the same purpose as the old one, probably making it cheaper because you don't have the buttons on the side to press (not much, but considering they're selling millions, it does save money) and sticks to their minimalist philosophy. And third, although no longer as common anymore, Apple would've taken this picture down by now wouldn't you think? If they're making a big event for the iPod, these leaks are too easily slipped.

Here's what I've been talking about the clickwheel design, if they're shifting to the longer nano design. It's similar to the Moto Rokr E8, in which it "lights" up different signs in different modes, eg video viewing, landscape mode vs music player. Of course, because the click wheel isn't that large, in landscape mode, just use and light up the letter "M" for the reverse or forward.

iPod nano touch?!

Apple have usually been quite hot at pulling REAL images from the net, so maybe there is a hidden secret to this image...

I have been thinking a lot about the ipod nano touch also as I would love one.

We have to be realistic though.
The actual physical parts inside there would definitately make it quite big, the battery for one would now have to support such a large screen, plus of course the screen itself is bigger, 'stealing' real estate.

If they ever made a nano touch in a shape like the current touch (or the 3g fatty, on it's side) I think you'll find it would still be 25% bigger than the current fatty at least.

I think this new one, will only have one feature from the touch and iphone and that's the gyroscope thingo which detects if it's up or sideways - purely for video watching.

It'll probably be 16gb too.
I still find the curves ugly and I honestly hated the fatty at first but eventually I loved it - it's a shame to go back to tall to be honest :/

I was so looking forward to seeing iPod touch released with an internal hard drive for this month product release. Now that's my dream iPod. That's what I want. Thats what I have been waiting ever since iPod touch was released. I just don't get it. Why don't they do it.

Apple, will you just get rid of the classic and take the hard drive and install it into the touch. PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEE.

Two words can answer that question.

Battery life.

Fatty versus Slim?

Of course with the slim the buttons are smaller in size.

Still debating which I like.

There's no debate to be had, one is actually useful for movies and video, the other looks like crap - fatty wins in the nano touch mockup awards.

I would disagree with you.

IMHO, the Touch is a bit too small as it is -- coming from the Newton perspective. Gut feeling is that a smaller Touch screen would be hard to use and not all that useful. YMMV.

LOL no.

The touch is far far too big for anyone who goes to the gym.
My 3g nano is perfect at the gym, whereas a touch is ridiculously too big and heavy.

If they make a nano touch, ever, it has to be a bit bigger than the current 3g fatty but the same kind of shape (so it can do widescreen)

They need to keep the weight and size down for it to be practical.

Aside from the nano news, I'm interested to see the price drops, as you can get an iPhone for 200 bucks now.

No you can't this rumour needs to die as soon as possible, argh it's people like you that wonder where credit card debt comes from.

Ok I caught up to date with the thread.

I have to sadly concede defeat :/
I am pretty sure the orange one is real - so we're stuck with dopey plastic caps at the ends and a curved screen (W.T.F?)

Then again the black ones allllmost look ok, I still prefer fatty much, much more but what can you do.
It better be 16gb though god damnit.

I have a philisophy of ALWAYS selling my ipods about this time of year and buying the new ones, purely because apple fans are such morons that I can sell the old one for 75% of the cost of the new one, keeping me with a fresh warranty and new features for very little money.

I sold my 2gb 1'st gen nano for 2/3 the cost of an 8gb 2gb nano.
I sold my 8gb 2g nano for 90% of the cost of my 8gb 3g nano!
and now, I'll likely sell my 8gb 3g nano for 70% the cost of a new 16gb 4g nano.

Fresh warranties, new features - better re-sale value if it's the newer model (try selling a 1 or 2g nano now)

Still,.... through all this, I do wish I could just have a 16gb 3g model - I don't like the slim much.

i found the green fake? in higher res. it actually looks a bit more real (the screen, closer up). i hope sj dosent release this.

Here's a thought regarding the image of the boxed orange nano: Since the product now (allegedly) features an oval profile, would it not be in typical Apple style to reflect this in the packaging too, making the lid slightly curved rather than flat with rounded edges? Of course it may be due to box stacking in transit or on shelves, but still I feel the box shown doesn't quite go with Apple's usual attention to detail and presentation.
