Leaked Photo of Next Generation Mac Mini?

I'm undecided how real this actually is, but I sure hope the next mini can run :apple:TV software on it. No HDMI pretty much indicates that that isn't a priority, but HDMI is only really needed for BluRay. Which simply isn't going to happen.

Otherwise, I can get DVI-HDMI cables, and digital audio cables and get the mini hooked up to my big screen pretty easily.

It's the :apple:TV software that would make this a nice media center. And I can run Safari for Hulu content.

Don't forget about things the aTV doesn't support like streaming from netflix and online TV shows.

My vision for Apple TV software 3.0 is that Apple finally takes advantage of the DVR patents that they've been sitting on.

I see something much more like Boxee from Apple with the next software upgrade, which will most likely come with the next hardware upgrade (that I expect to be Atom/Ion) that will allow 1080p video in iTunes for rental and purchase.

The ATV is for Apple's revenue stream, not Netflix or the networks'.

Thank you milo. I'm glad someone sees why a Mac Mini with HDMI is so much more than an aTV.

No, it's just the rest of us don't view the Mini and Apple TV as similar devices. One's for delivering media, the other is a personal computer. Besides, with MDP, you'll be able to get your precious HDMI.

disappointed :(

I sincerely hope this is a fake. An all aluminum case with Core2 Quad would be much better. Apple is certainly capable of it. It seems to me that their focus is iPhone, iPod and if their stores are focusing on software....well iDon'tCare anymore.

Give me the old apple back.... Apple Computer !

If this is true then this will be the higher end one. however it looks to me like someone machined a new back and stuck it in, or just a discarded prototype. Why would it be on a cheap wooden table? thats certainly nowhere inside Apples development centre.

Sweet!

I guess I won't have to build a Hackint0sh HTPC after all......

A new mini will look nice nestled under my 46" Samsung HDTV.

Let's just hope they don't do something stupid, like overcharge for it.

I'd love to see apple upgrade aTV so that it can do everything TV wise a computer can do. Until then, they have two boxes, neither of which is a complete solution for TV. And while that situation exists, there will be requests for HDMI and things like it.

Sure, that's what Apple wants. But if they shut those out it will hurt their aTV sales.

Speak for yourself. Some people view the mini as just a computer, some view it as a decent TV platform.

Do people really forget that Apple themselves hyped the intel mini as a TV box when it first shipped? Obviously they backed off that as soon as aTV shipped.

From the intel mini press release:
"Mac mini includes a DVI interface and a VGA-out adapter to easily connect to a variety of displays, including many of today’s most popular flat panel televisions, and now features both analog and digital audio outputs to easily connect to a home stereo."

5 USB on a Mini but 3 on an iMac?
Sure, why not. Mini already has 4. And since the iMac ships with a keyboard (which includes two more open USB ports), it actually has 3 open ports after keyboard and mouse are connected.

Photo looks real - hopefully prototype, can't wait for it!

I don't see any reason to doubt this is a real photo of a real machine.

I would hope that it's a prototype though.

To me, it would make more sense for the production machine to have a Magsafe power connection so that it would come with either a 55W or 85W power adapter from the Macbook/MBP. That would also make it more compatible with the new Cinema Display(s).

The dual video ports could be part of it being a prototype. However, the mini DVI would allow for a simple connection to a VGA monitor via the existing adapter. Apple has already stated that the mini DisplayPort connector would appear on all new models, so having both does make sense for this switcher targeted machine.

FW800 would be awesome, I really do hope that FW800 will be included. To me it'll be FW800 or none at all.

The reason I think this is a prototype is that fact that the case hasn't been updated. I would expect the Mini to get a design refresh to bring it into the new design philosophy - case would get corners that mimic the unibody laptops and probably black plastic to match the iMac and Cinema Display(s).

The innards are almost certainly based on the Macbook to reduce costs so 9400M graphics have got to be almost 100% certain.

I really hope that they will price the Mini with 2GB memory at $499/$549, to compete effectively with the Windows desktops.

Here's hoping Apple will release the new Mini soon!

That's expensive parquet flooring.
