I'd love it if you could get a really small mini - one without the optical drive. I hardly use mine, and I'd rather have a flatter mini...and use the now-ubiquitous cd/dvd sharing.
Also, why on God's green earth would you need 5 USB sockets on the MacMini?!! Let's see: 1) printer; 2) iPod/iPhone dock; 3) possible wired keyboard (though if the MacMini is supposed to be minimalist, do you really want a wired keyboard?); 4) possible wired mouse (see 3); and 5) scanner (and that's only if your printer is not multifunction). Besides, in these days of 'living in the cloud,' shouldn't many of these peripherals (i.e. printer, NAS, etc) be on our wireless networks?
This has to be a joke, right? Whoever is responsible should be Steved ASAP.
Sure, that's what Apple wants. But if they shut those out it will hurt their aTV sales.
Speak for yourself.
Some people view the mini as just a computer, some view it as a decent TV platform.
Yeah, by comparing both of those the size looks almost exactly the same as the current Mac Mini. I bet it even has the same white plastic on the top.
I hope this is just a prototype and is not the real thing. I wouldn't buy it if it was the same size and has that same old awful white plastic. Apple needs to make it looking more like the Apple TV, which I think is all aluminum, but with a disk drive.
My P45 board has 10 USB ports on the back.I love that it comes with Firewire 800, while the MacBook is stuck only with USB. Apparently, Apple has designated the MacMini a 'professionals' device but not the MacBook. Meanwhile, even some cah-cah netbooks come with hig-speed eSATA sockets.

Their sales seem to be doing just fine, so why should they listen to such a minority opinion?
I never speak for anyone besides myself.![]()
I'm definitely placing an order the day this is available.
You mean aTV sales are doing fine? Based on what?
Funny, it sure sounded like you were saying how "the rest of us" feel about it.
"Pot calling Kettle, come in Kettle..."
I take it you've never used Windows Media Center either? Please elaborate. It is no secret that a large share of MacMini's are used as home entertainment centers. You get a DVD player/burner, a DVR (ex. Elgato's EyeTV), a media center (i.e. photos, music, video files), the ability to run Boxee and Hulu, and the ability to video iChat, surf the web, and handle email. Granted, there is a significant price difference between the AppleTV and a MacMini. However, considering the advantage of better performance and larger HD, the price difference seems negligible. Further, when you compare a Windows media center PC to a MacMini, the MacMini is a freaking bargain!!! Even my PC-centric friends are considering picking one up for this explicit purpose.
If Apple wants the MacMinis to sell like hot cakes, put a dedicated GPU with at least 256MB of GRAM and re-dub it the iMedia.![]()
Firewire(800) on a Mac-mini but not on a MacBook? That doesn't make sense.
it's nice to see 5 usb ports, you can never have too many of those.
