For you music and video that are on your Mac mini, which is your computer that is hooked up to your monitor.
Although, some people have made them into Apple TV like things by hooking them up to TV's and setting them up in their living room to go along with their home theatre.

I guess you don't remember when Apple used to advertise the mini hooked up to a TV? And they still sell video to TV adapters.

Please, PLEASE, someone explain to me why HDMI makes any sense on a computer.:eek:

Because I should be the one deciding what my media plays on; not Apple. There are many people who don't have the resources to convert every type of media they own to Apple-approved formats.

I hope it is for real!

I got so excited when I saw that picture. Against my better judgment, I would like to believe I am looking at something real. It's the same feeling I get when I go to a tittie bar. ;)

C'mon, Mac users don't go to tittie bars...we are already beating them off with our sticks...

These specs and probably the same price as before will not be enough to sway me back from building hackint0shes.

For over $1000 laptops, I'd get a Mac for quality and possibly performance, but gone are the days of me spending AU$8,000 for the latest PowerBook G3

Why spend $500 for Mini levels of performance when less than that will get you closer to Mac Pro speed in a hackintosh (and a lot less fiddly to upgrade!).

I've had 2 or 3 Minis before and they look nice, but there's no comparing to my Shuttle h:apple:ckintosh.

Uh... so why are you buying a box that runs OS X? How does adding HDMI have anything to do with the file format used to play media?

Because HDMI means you can hook it up to a TV, thus play your media without having to convert to other formats.

As a photo retoucher, I'd like to mention that whenever photos like this get posted, everybody and their mother magically becomes an expert on lighting, photography and digital retouching.

You're not. For God's sake, you're not.

This is a very real photo cropped down and blown up from a larger photo taking under crap lighting conditions. If I am wrong, then whoever created this photo is ****ING AMAZING, because they successfully managed to whittle together photos of different ports taking under different lighting conditions, make it look like they were all taking under the SAME (crap) lighting conditions, and yet keep the blur, noise and even the color artifacts of the digital photo consistent and believeable throughout.

If this is fake, I will gladly buy the creator of the photo the new Mac Mini when it comes out as reward for the greatness. All they need to do is send me their source files and the PSD file of their photo retouching MASTERPIECE as proof.
AMEN i agree completely... if this is fake someone spent way too long doing it or is as you said amazingly good

Two things I don't understand about this pic:

(1) The two different video outs. I really can't fathom a MiniDisplay and a Mini-DVI. I could see two MiniDisplay Ports, but not two different ports. I mean come on, what if someone want to buy two new Apple Monitors with the Mini...they won't be able too...doesn't make sense.

(2) The white plastic look. I really think that makes no sense considering Apple's move to Black hardware.

I think this picture is just like Apple Insider said, a prototype from last year. The Firewire 800 and 5 USB ports do seem accurate.

What does this have to do with the port?

The question was why use a mini to drive a TV instead of an aTV.

The answer is because aTV doesn't support as many formats.

Seems pretty straightforward to me.

That makes no sense, a computer monitor via mini dvi can play any format that the computer can play?

Your confused.

I must admit I felt a tingle up my leg. :D

Correct, you can intermix audio on the main link channels along with video (multiple channels of audio).

Nothing really disabled... just not supported at this time by any of Apple's systems.

Mini display port does not currently support audio, only the full size display port connector currently supports audio.

Notice how all the symbols (labeling the ports) are in exactly the same place as the old mini, as can be seen in the comparison photos.
Nothing has moved a millimeter except for new ports have been added, which would be so easy to photoshop on a white surface like that.

I feel the display port at least would have moved a bit, but its still on the 3rd grill from the right.

This is an obvious fake!

But bring on the updates please..

Except that's not true.

If you look at the picture it's fairly obvious the USB icon has been moved over about half a centimeter as it no longer is directly diagonal from the microphone jack.

Any upgrade will have DDR3. I don't understand why the heck this is not understandable.
I don't understand why that would have to be the case. It'd make more sense for Apple to harmonize the Mac Mini with the White MacBook to piggyback on the same parts contracts and get discounts for buying in bulk. The White MacBook uses the 9400M with 1066MHz FSB but with DDR2-667. In addition, the Mac Mini already uses DDR2-667, and if it switched to DDR3, the White MacBook would be the only Mac to still be using DDR2-667, which can't be good for volume discounts. Other models either use DDR3 or FB-DIMMs, while the iMacs use DDR2-800.

On the HDMI issue, I agree that Apple is right in not including it and sticking with DisplayPort which is a computer standard. Apple should offer a min-DP to HDMI convertor though, they'd probably sell it. It anything, given the calls for HDMI, it'd be profitable.

Okay, I got it now.

Answer:

So frigging what. What do you have that isn't in MP4 format? What do you have that you can't convert to MP4 format? My HD DVD rips have all been converted to 1080p MP4 and they look exactly the same as from the disk.

Proof please...

Actually, the proof is that Mini DisplayPort DOES support audio, just Apple doesn't have it enabled in OS X.

:p Now I need an excuse to buy a Mac Mini - I have just bought a second hand Power Mac and upgraded it.

Can I really use the mini in the living room? that might convince the Mrs that it is a DVD player/recorder replacement:rolleyes:
