This is just an iphone 3g... look at the photos

there is no way this is a new iphone, all the screw hole are in the exact same spots and all of the molding looks exactly the same. if it is a new iphone, apple is coasting like they did with the ipod 5.5 that virtually stayed the same for 2 years.

So because the holes aren't different there's nothing new? I'm not sure that makes sense.

If new things were being added it is likely the screws would need to be re-worked to make space. After the picture he posted I am now convinced it is just an iPhone 3G.

You dont know much about engineering and how fast components shrink do you?

Not to mention they could use different companies products....

Well I guess we can count it out as having the same form factor as the iPod touch, the casing's spacing looks just as thick as the 3G's

I was actually kind of hoping for a different design, in reality they're using the same basic design for 3 yrs with minor tweeks (curving etc)

Do you expect some sort of radical redesign?

Metal Back

A metal back would significantly worsen reception. Apple, get this point through your thick skulls: Metal bodies block wireless signals. Is it any wonder why the aluminum MacBooks and MacBook Pros have the absolute worst WiFi reception on the market?

Apple seems to value form over function.

Where do u see a metal back on the 3g or the pics in this thread?

And do you have proof to back up ur wifi claim (worst in market)?

What I do know is there was a recent quote saying that the reason there wasn't a 32 GB iPhone is because they couldn't fit it. So assuming things have only gotten so much smaller and they try and give us at least some new things it is asinine to think the screw placement would be able to be in the EXACT same place. It is still idiotic to think they would be in the same place even if things got tremendously smaller.

yeah, they likely just sourced new manufactures that would design products to fit the existing screw hole pattern. Makes sense.

Your assuming they are bumping up to 32 with this....

Why the F does this matter? Apple didn't change the MBP design for at least 3 years because there was little to nothing wrong with it. The original iPhone was a first generation product, which usually means there are flaws that can only be discovered through use. They fixed the signal strength through the next change. If they made the back a little more grippy, what else should they change? A new camera wouldn't take a redesign, nor would anything else on the inside.

I mean have you followed Apple AT ALL? It's not coasting, it's making something work and not needing to spend money changing and refitting manufacturing crap for a new model every year. It'll probably be another 3 or 4 years before the iMac gets a major change, and the Mac Pros have been pretty much the same since the G5.

Not if they are going with a new case material and possibly shape, which is lucky. They would have no need to worry about that

Seriously speaking though, as an official iPhone basher, the design of the case is top notch. It's best phone I have ever held in hand. And very well balanced too.

I do hope Apple stays consistent with it's design, only tweaking it slightly to give the iPhone junkies something new to drool over that makes them want to upgrade from their 3Gs for reason and boost Apple's numbers.

There will be a hissy fit (at least from me) if there isn't a 32GB model. The 16GB upgrade came in January 2008. 32GB modules will be available in bulk by the middle of the year. With the doubling of the size of almost every song on iTunes, they have to make storage bigger. My 8GB phone just isn't cutting it, especially if I want more than one app that needs a decent amount (10MB+) of space.

Besides this being my first post on Macrumors...

I would pay ridiculous amounts of money for a Carbon-Fiber iPhone back.

No joke, its addicting. I have cf accents on my motorcycle, will have it on my Cobra, and it will likely find its way into my house one day. Only real stuff tho, not the stick on look-alike crap.

Alas, cheers to all you fellow hooligans on MR!! Have one on me :D

I believe someone on here was attempting it not to long ago.

Welcome!

If you want CF on the current iPhone, I've seen a case that is made of it. I'm not sure if it was the real deal though.

Pro Tip: There's ALWAYS a hissy fit when apple does anything:p

Yes I fully expect apple to go 32GB with the iphone, as soon as 32GB modules are cost effective enough. Right now the touch only has 32GB because it uses two 16GB modules, the iphone with all the extra things in there only has space for one module.

I beleive the 32's went into production a few months back, but I'm not sure how cost effective they are just yet.

That'd be a dream come true :) The phone wouldn't look cheep anymore!! It'd be soooo beautifullllll!! :apple:

A while back there was a YouTube video from Russia that showed some people who did this to a 2g iPhone. It was probably the coolest customization job I'd ever seen on anything ever!!! :):D

What about the light-up plastic apple logo on the back there?

You mean like this!!!!!:eek: Flippin SWEET!!!! I'd pay $500 extra for this.:eek::eek::eek: SO COOL!!!! BTW this is that video. ^^^

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VgfyUsjwGwM&NR=1

I figured out by translating their website that they are Russia's main source of customization/replacing/repairing of iPhones. Sorry this isn't on topic per se, but it was really cool.

As much as this excites the fanboys of Apple, I for one didn't get excited for a second. Its the back of an unknown type Iphone FFS.

Until I see specs, I'm not going to bother getting excited from a mate black back casing of a unknown iphone.
