Hi

This looks a little dodgy to me

the text on my iPhone and iPHone 3G is

Designed by Apple in California Assembled in China

but here it is...

Designed by Apple In California Assembled In China.

I hope I am wrong but it looks alot like this fake

Well spotted - yes I've changed my mind now too. I think it's fake.

Oops, posted on the wrong thread before:

April 3rd 2008 - Picture of iPhone 3G back casing
July 11th 2008 - iPhone 3G release (after the WWDC announcement)

Feb 13th 2009 - Picture of what might be just a iPhone 3G (replacement) back.

? - Announcement/Release

Just wondering in relation to their other product releases this year:
e.g. Have Mac Pro/ iMac in March, iPhone at WWDC, then Snow Leopard WWDC <-> August time, then back to school , new iPods etc.

~115 days till WWDC (unknown proper dates).

So going through the Buyers Guide:
Days it would be since update, if refreshed at WWDC (Average number of days between refresh)

At WWDC

iPod Classic 171 (Avg 251)
iPod Touch 271 (185)
iPod nano 271 (285)
iPod shuffle 271 (223)
Mac Mini 670 (188) !
iMac 405 (211)
Mac Pro 518 (217)
MacBook 236 (195)
macBook Pro 236 (197)
MacBook Air 236 (273)
iPhone 332 (126)
LCDs 795 (230)
XServe 516 (344)

If it is a recent version of what will be the v3 iPhone back, would people anticipate an equal length of time to market?

If so that would make it more like June? In essence, a release at WWDC, rather than a big wait? If so, you can bet your bottom dollar there will be rumours of the ramp up for the new model, and wind down for the old one, unless Apple is expanding the line, rather than discontinuing the current 3G iPhones.

wrt to the screw position issue - I'd imagine that other Apple products have had to work within positional constraints before (be it fan position, casing dimensions etc). Anyone got a picture of the back of an original iPhone to compare? (e.g. http://www.appleinsider.com/article...als_better_than_ipod_construction_photos.html but with just the casing?)

I think it can still be just a storage bump, maybe something to do with the CPU as well. Either way, no need to stop selling the 3g in advance like what happened with the 2g, IMO no event is needed either, and I doubt WWDC would be all about the iPhone/Snow Leopard. If WWDC gets to be in July and not June, the phone can be released in June. Mac Pros and something else at WWDC. I'm pretty sure I'll be keeping my 3g:)

If they are going back to an aluminum casing, I'll be one happy Mac fan. I used to love even the shape and feel of the 1st gen. iphone in my hand though. I guess they'll never get back to that design. Come to think of it the newer 3G fits more snugly/naturally in the hand, so I guess it would be cool if they kept the form factor but changed the materials back to what they were. Anyway, I hope they have a boatload of new features. If not I really hope to see a beautiful, powerful, tablet with a screen about 4 1/2 inches by 4 1/2 inches. :D

What a great suggestion - buy a 16GB iPhone and get locked into another 18/24 month contract when it is fairly evident that there are updates coming in the summer and new, higher memory modules that are being produced this year.:rolleyes:

Im not saying buy a 16GB NOW! Im saying quit whining that the 8GB is full and how more space is needed. If its that desperate theres already options. Chill. Do you REALLY NEED 32GB - Try playlists...

hm....

i just hope the metal back doesnt change the weight that much cuz i LOVED the feel of the iphone 3g...

The back is NOT metal and cannot be metal as the phone, bluetooth and wireless signals cannot pass through metal. That is why the original iPhone had a large plastic section. This new back is matt black plastic.

16:9 screen?

It seems longer then the current version of the iPhone. Will it be incorporate with a 16:9 screen instead of a 3:2 screen like the existing one?

What about the new MacBook? Wifi signals travel through the metal enclosure.

APPLE IS SUCKING MY MONEY OUT OF MY WALLET!!!
I will be getting this, the metal back is missed. Hope it has a better camera, very easy to do Apple. >.<

I think it looks about the same, just the distortion from the angle of the photo...but who knows. Personally I wouldn't want my PHONE to be 16:9...am I really gonna use it as my only movie player? No. Feels like the whole "OMGZ THE NEW MACBOOKS ARE GONNA BE 16:9!!!" and it didn't happen thank God. :]

Could be a fake, but a well done one at that. There is a thread like this in the iPhone general forum as well.

I would take this over the current iPhone 3G glossy back but if it comes at the cost of signal reception...It may or may not be worth it.

If this is a fake, Apple needs to hire whoever did it.

I don't need a new iPhone, I want one... So I'm waiting till juneish whenever it's supposed to be, and getting the new phone then. Hopefully it will be 32GB.
You aren't locked into anything with the iPhone, last time I upgraded from Gen1 to Gen2, they just start your contract over.

LOL, last time I upgraded to the 3G , my old first gen sold for $475 on ebay. That paid for my gen1 and gen2 !

O......M.....G people.

who cares! it's just a casing for the phone. seriously, get more excited about the software and functionality rather than a stupid "it's metal, it's plastic" back casing.

I was really kinda hoping for something like this...

Of course there will be. Why would Apple limit itself to just GSM when it can have the best of both worlds like any other phone manufacturer? Doesn't make any sense.

This makes more sense than the nonsense being spit by some posters. Apple wants money, and by money they mean straight CASH.

People aren't moving over to AT&T because of their crappy service, it's only because of the iPhone. A lot of users aren't dropping their better coverage and faster 3G networks to sign up with AT&T and the iPhone. Making a CDMA version that works on better networks will give Apple a true market lead.

Heck, I would pass up on the Pre if there was an iPhone on Sprint's network with all the things AT&T will never have. And the Pre is looking to be a lot better than the iPhone UI wise.

There will be no CDMA-iPhone. It would be duplication of effort, and utter waste.

I am starting to think that people that say these things are the ones hi-jacking the Wiki pages to make people believe false information. Nothing against you personally, just your judgement. There may never be an iPhone on Verison's Sprint's and other CDMA carrier's networks, but making one would benefit Apple in ways that none of us, not even AT&T/iPhone junkies could understand.

I was really kinda hoping for something like this...

I love the "AA" battery door that the design has... not really, just kidding. Honestly I hope they keep it the same shape and curvature, and just add the functionality that all other smartphones can do and do well. Like bluetoothing files back and forth, or being able to use the device as a storage drive, or REAL GPS with turn by turn, etc.

It's also possible by gauging from the inside that Apple will utilize the entire back as some sort of antenna amplifier... lord forbid them from releasing another round of crappy reception 3G phones.

Seriously guys, the metal vs. antenna debate was discussed ad-nauseum through the first four pages of this thread. No need to go back over this.

(waits for, "I don't have time to read a 13 page thread!")

Anyone have pictures or information regarding the carbon-fiber casing that was an undertaking by a forum member?

Apple better have gotten it right with the iPhone this time around if they're this close to production.

That means they need to add more file space, more system memory, an even higher resolution screen and better battery life.

If not.. they're gonna fail, hard. Apple has had plenty of time to listen and study the success and shortcomings of the iPhone for a while now.
I haven't heard about any of those shortcomings. Isn't 16GB the largest size any phone comes in? I've heard more about no copy paste and no MMS and no video and the lo-res camera sucking. File size and screen res have been fairly generous. I could see it gong to 32GB though.

The bottom photo of the inside of the case looks like a plastic injection moulding not pressure die cast ali or magnesium. I'd like to see a real iphone case back to back before I got excited.

Come on Steve!
You need to make the next iPhone out of CARBON-FIBER!
Light, strong, stylish, sexy & won't block the multiple radio's signals. :)

Plus, wouldn't it be a first for a cell-phone?

WRONG.

Small camera hole. Probs gonna be a 2mp again

The camera is a big issue. Most people cite the megapixles; a few more informed cite the optics. I think the biggest issue, however, is the response time of the camera. It's just awful. To see what I am talking about, go to the iPhone camera, quickly point the camera at a stationary object, and see how long the screen takes to respond to an image that would make an acceptable photo. This is what I don't understand about video with jailbroken apps - any movement whatsoever just looks like a blur so I don't see how it can capture any worthwhile video. Case in point: the following are the best and worst photos I took at a Hoobastank concert a few months back. I was completely stationary while taking the photos. Even the "best" one is pretty crappy.
